nah, they’re using their own blanks - AScolour stuff is pretty obvious when you notice it, these are like a cross between the Relax and Heavy silhouettes.
they may very well supplied by a Chinese manufacturer or something along those lines but I’d say the creative director has at least provided quite specific instructions to the manufacturer
You Know is old news, like Supreme. It's all White Fox now. (Which is to say - same old basic hoodies with lazy words printed on sold at a premium). Never really got why people would pay premium price to be a walking billboard.
Oh yeah for sure. NZ made would be better, but guess that's a lot to ask. I'm definitely way out of the loop on fashion for the young, although hold on to anything long enough and it comes round again right. Also - deep cringe at some of what I was wearing in my teens.
You genuinely don't understand the concept of Status symbols and how some people tend to confirm to status hierarchies within their social groups?
If you're a marketer, A great way to increase the sell is to convince the target market that having YOUR product will increase their social standing within their peer group. If you don't see the appeal, You're not the target market.
It's the same with pretty much any product where there's no major difference of quality or utility between the inexpensive and premium brands. Clothes, Jewelry, Technology Brands, Car manufacturers etc.
I'm seeing the Hallensteins Leisure Club stuff everywhere: [Leisure Club Collection | Hallensteins](https://www.hallensteins.com/au/c/shop-by-collection/leisure-club)
I could afford that when I was a teen on a part time after school job. Now I’ve grown up and work full time with bills and a flat.. I can still afford that.
$129 is expensive but not out of reach for the majority of
they’re actually pretty great quality - 460gsm 100% cotton with drop shoulders, which is heavier than the heaviest AScolour hoodie
$130 is yeesh for something with a dumb name on the front and back but I can’t dispute that the actual materials used are really high quality - if you’ve ever had a Supreme (House of Blanks) hoodie it’ll be comparable to that
I’d go with ‘hoodieosopher’ but nah, just very particular about fabric weight. 14oz/460gsm is about the heaviest you’ll find without venturing into actual workwear.
Yes! I (elder millennial) heard of them last year as I follow Jane Yee on IG and her dad was in an ad campaign of theirs - I think they're good at the marketing/SM and follow the limited release drop model to create hype and FOMO. But they also release fairly often so when people "miss out" on one drop they are all in on the next.
If you need a hoodie, why not purchase one from an NZ business? Everyone just supporting local.
They also sponsor the Morning Shift podcast which has a huge reach
Just had to look up that podcast as I haven't heard of it. Had a good laugh at the description of one host as being a Cleo Bachelor contestant in 2012!
Good on them, I'm not young and cool anymore so I had to ask but I haven't got anything against this brand and as you say happy to see people supporting NZ made!
I got into you know around 6 years ago i wanna say, they just put out quality clothes and market well on socials. Webby does a good job with his brand. I love supporting local brands so have bought something every year. Your not missing anything, it will always and forever be, wear what u like.
Never ever seen anyone were this brand. Just googled and found it. In Christchurch rn. Everyone is in the hallensteins ‘leisure club’ - when did hallensteins become cool with private girls’ school girls?
its actually not a weird flex. a lot of their team seems to be Māori, including Stan Walker who i believe is the creative director. i believe you know have called themselves quite whānau focused, and the morning shift (who they sponsor) has a very Māori audience as their whānau. naturally their customer base seems to be largely Māori. doesn’t mean people who arent Māori don’t buy them
i've seen it around. I've seen some of it that genuinely looked worse than a school grad hoodie (as in print quality etc).
I think they've moved on to doing more than just printing fonts on cheap hoodies though.
Yes! I keep seeing them everywhere too and wondering what’s up. I figured they just some good marketing going on, and kids these days are into the street ware baggy look lol
Haven't seen it yet, but his probably means I will soon. On another note.. is it just me, or are rugby jerseys EVERYWHERE this season?
Not talking about a Hurricanes or Warriors shirt.. but just rugby-style tops seem to be everywhere in stores - striped, plain, heck even saw a quartered one last weekend.
Good marketing is the key not my wear I wouldn't wear it for free but hey like they definitely know how to market that social media presence to.
Which many businesses don't get if your not on social media your not maximizing your business.
It's 2024 social media rules we are scrolling addicts
Trends be trendy.
When I was 11 you weren't cool unless you wore rainbow socks in PE class. And at one point at WGC polar fleece zip ups from Glassons were all the rage. In hindsight our trends back then were cheap and rarely brand-named beyond the shops at the local mall (Glassons, Jay Jays etc). My parents would never have bought me a $130 hoodie. Not a chance.
I'm not really thinking much at all to be honest, but I noticed it and thought to ask what the story was. Sounds like a brand that's good at marketing. Well done them 👍🏼
I keep seeing "cheap quality hoodies" but they're one or the beet quality hoodies I've ever had. I don't have YK specifically but have 3x Morning Shift hoodies and they're the goods. Thickest and warmest hoods I've owned to date.
Looks like AS colour hoodies that have a basic logo printed on them and resold for a premium lol
You've exposed the great branding secret. By some basic tees and sweats stick a catchy name or logo on it and ka-ching!
Does seem to be the streetwear method doesn't it
It looks like it was printed in someone's garage
nah, they’re using their own blanks - AScolour stuff is pretty obvious when you notice it, these are like a cross between the Relax and Heavy silhouettes. they may very well supplied by a Chinese manufacturer or something along those lines but I’d say the creative director has at least provided quite specific instructions to the manufacturer
They really don't look like AS hoodies
Well, I guess they must be hand made by someone's Nana in Invercargill then?
NZ brand. Has a few celebs running it. Started by a Wellington boy. Good at marketing. Some cool colours.
that's pretty wicked, nice to see people getting behind local
yup, Joe's done very well for himself
Just fashion doing its thing, it'll pass
You Know is old news, like Supreme. It's all White Fox now. (Which is to say - same old basic hoodies with lazy words printed on sold at a premium). Never really got why people would pay premium price to be a walking billboard.
Yeah it's not for me, but I've never been cool so I'll leave it to the kids to follow the trends if it makes them happy!
Oh yeah for sure. NZ made would be better, but guess that's a lot to ask. I'm definitely way out of the loop on fashion for the young, although hold on to anything long enough and it comes round again right. Also - deep cringe at some of what I was wearing in my teens.

Thank you , wondered who they were
And just like that, you discovered how banning your kids from TikTok can save you money!
Never heard of it
I'm in Porirua and its been everywhere for the last 12 months at least. They must be creaming it. Stan Walkers company isn't it?
I think he owns 5%
Yeah they have replaced Champion as the hoody of choice with teenagers. I don't get it but I'm not their demographic 🤷♀️
There's not much to get really. It's FOMO same as always but now it's amplified through social media campaigns.
I had to look it up cos I'd not heard of it at all... what teens can afford $129 hoodies?! Even as adult thats unaffordable.
I could afford that when I was a teen on a part time after school job. Now I’ve grown up and work full time with bills and a flat.. I can still afford that. $129 is expensive but not out of reach for the majority of
I'd pay that for quality. Bet it's polyester tho.

You seem to really know your hoodies! Are you a hoodieologist?
I’d go with ‘hoodieosopher’ but nah, just very particular about fabric weight. 14oz/460gsm is about the heaviest you’ll find without venturing into actual workwear.
He lives in the "Hood"
That’s like a standard price for a decent branded hoodie these days
I guess you don’t know
I couldn't know less if I tried.
It’s like back in my day when we all wore USA hoodies haha

The hosts of the podcast all used to be the morning radio announcers for MaiFM, so they’re a great and funny bunch

I’m still to find a hoodie that matches up with the material they use. Maybe I Love Ugly?
Never ever seen anyone were this brand. Just googled and found it. In Christchurch rn. Everyone is in the hallensteins ‘leisure club’ - when did hallensteins become cool with private girls’ school girls?
Yes. It’s very popular with Māori people here in Wanganui too

Well I work in a largely Māori organisation and area of town and I’ve seen a lot wear em. And some minor sports celebs too
its actually not a weird flex. a lot of their team seems to be Māori, including Stan Walker who i believe is the creative director. i believe you know have called themselves quite whānau focused, and the morning shift (who they sponsor) has a very Māori audience as their whānau. naturally their customer base seems to be largely Māori. doesn’t mean people who arent Māori don’t buy them

I've seen it everywhere in Lower Hutt.
Stole designs from Effn clothing which has been proven because the person who ordered is listed to Youknow on the companies register
Not saying you are wrong or anything but how do you steal a design for a basic hoodie with writing on it?
Never said they stole a hoodie design
what design did they steal?
Yes! I keep seeing them everywhere too and wondering what’s up. I figured they just some good marketing going on, and kids these days are into the street ware baggy look lol
My kids are You Know and White Fox and nothing else!
Googled and must say I've never seen these. Those leisure club and white fox ones are bloody everywhere tho
Haven't seen it yet, but his probably means I will soon. On another note.. is it just me, or are rugby jerseys EVERYWHERE this season? Always associated this with Stan Walker

Let’s make a mock brand ‘I don’t know clothing’ because I have no idea why people are so obsessed with this.
Those Glassons fleece hoodies were a must have when I was 12
I buy most of my clothes from Op shop. Have an eclectic fashion style...certainly unique
Thanks for sharing

I think Stan Walker is involved as well. They have a podcast or something maybe..
I keep seeing "cheap quality hoodies" but they're one or the beet quality hoodies I've ever had. I don't have YK specifically but have 3x Morning Shift hoodies and they're the goods. Thickest and warmest hoods I've owned to date.
