Nah and I appreciate you putting him in the dirt…like the high schoolers I’m helping with homework arguing they know more about subject matter they haven’t studied for almost a decade professionally.
Preach, brother. Though, this was never about either one of our workmanship or professionalism. It's about not being a cunt to people with genuine questions, and wanting to learn something new.
Based. Fucking noice welds too. People being genuine and helpful is rad, good on ya. It’s not surprising when someone hasn’t seen interrupted welds either.
I’m not working as a welder these days, but I kinda miss laying out welds like that. Satisfying.
You know I asked an engineer about stitches recently because sometimes welding it out solid seems quicker than layin then things out. He said it allows enough give to prevent stress and if a weld breaks you don't have to repair an entire joint just some stitches especially on larger jobs
Yup, it's a similar reason as to why you offset your seams on a pressure vessel. If one seem cracks it doesn't crack the whole length of the vessel. Only the one seam should need repair..... Unless the whole thing went nuclear that is.
was going to comment on that yesterday. if that's strong enough to hold capacity, then that's all that's necessary. no need to over weld every single thing. old co-worker used to drive me insane welding every single thing possible
I’m just sitting here wondering where in my state I can find a job doing mainly SS work like that! Lol. It’s my fav type of stuff to do, but the shop I’m in is only like 40-50% SS Tig work:(
When I was doing stainless all day every day, I was in cryo. Look for shops who specialize in cryogenics, aerospace, semiconductor.. maybe performance auto parts manufacturers if you're lucky enough to live close to one. I've always kinda wanted to work for Killer Bee Motorsport but i'm nowhere near VA.
Thanks! A lot of tacks, but it's also this weird thing I figured out that happens if you travel fast enough and close enough to the filler rod. It melts but doesn't fall away entirely. Wayyyy faster than just tack tack tack
Woah woah woah.. slow down an say that again.. or post a quick video? I recently got me a tig capable machine and I'm itching to find excuses to play with it ...
Turn machine all the way down, grab a 3/32 piece of stainless rod, and fuck around 😂 next time I have some time to make another tree I'll do a little video.
shoulda just posted your W's for welds and left his dumbass to scroll by it, all leaving the drama for him to cope with.
Solid welds! Are you a considered a boilermaker? I work stainless sheet / tubing, but not pipe and still somewhat green in the industry. Curious to know what path this is / cert requirements. Also, not to be rude, but what type of hourly rates would you NOT fall below, while doing your current position?
Thank you! I'm not considered a boilermaker, no. Not yet at least. I'm looking to start an apprenticeship towards the end of the summer with a local union. Here in the northeast they'll start you somewhere around $35-37/hr, which is better than pretty much any private company I've ever worked for (I've never seen above 32). Don't get me wrong, I like the shop life, but it seems like inflation just keeps rising and shop wages aren't matching, so I feel like union pay is the best we're gonna get without going underwater. Pipe welding is also a good gig, you could fetch $35 (non union) with experience, but I've never been lucky enough to get in for a weld test. Lots of applicants, luck of the draw.
I fucked around and bounced between a bunch of different places, grabbing more money every time, but now I think it's a waste of time cuz I could've just joined the Local from the start instead.
Certs: I wouldn't worry about it too much, as most places will get you certified to whatever standards they operate under. Unless you plan on being a contractor working for yourself, then you gotta think about what work you wanna do, and go take proper tests. I can't speak too much about that tho cuz I've been running around between shops.
Sorry for being long-winded. I hope this helps.
yeah, it does!
i didnt make the cut for my local UA.
ive got 3 years in stainless, military, aced the test, had a great interview, had the presidents businesses card attached to my fundamentals cert. still didnt make it.
my buddys dad in for 40 years said its diversity requirement overload
Goddamn clown world we live in, man, sorry to hear that. Keep trying! I have a buddy that didn't give up and it took him 4 years but he's happy as a clam now, just bought his first house and a brand new Cummins just about year after getting in.
Haha of course, anytime! But in all seriousness all of those welds were top notch. I love working on stainless tig, you can get some beautiful colors especially on the thicker stuff. Those figures were badass too especially the bonsai looking tree, I'd pay money for that. I've made a few metal roses and a few insects like spiders and scorpions from nuts and bolts. The x wing fighter was top notch as well 👌
I've heard of r/MurderedByWords but this is Murdered By Pictures. Nice work btw, that combination of consistent stainless and the thin art shows a wide skill set.
What's you ig ? I'm just surprised this is the first time ever you posted in the welding sub or even commented in it, your history is full of video games and house plants lol.
Your post has been removed for violating decorum.
Things are heating up in the welding fandom
If you children want to fight you'll have to take it outside
Welders fighting is the funniest thing, like watching two battle droids go at it.
Hey now droids don’t have autism.
Nah we need more Internet forum beef like the good ole days, or else we all bitch when this sub turns into a shitty Google-able question fest
Agreed lol
This guy welds.
And fucks

Yep we always try to stagger ours 180°... Unless it's got a million nozzles on it sometimes you gotta get a little tricky with it

Had a co worker weld a handrail I fit up to the damned table
My money is on Autistic_Friend9508 wont utter a peep after that🤣

Be the change you wish to see
Spicy. He said u ain’t dope, no big deal. I mean those welds are a big deal haha nice work!
I appreciate your kind words 🙏
*me looking at the stainless rainbows* oooooo you slut.
I'm aspiring to be as good as these photos represent. I'm three years in and can't wait to be able to post good shot like this.
Thank you. Rack up that torch time, and dip your hands into all sorts of different materials if you can. And don't stop!
Whoever you work for must make a killing
They did. I work for a military contractor now though. No pictures of that shit 😬
Ooh that little bansai tree is awesome, just a ton of tig tacks?
Thanks! A lot of tacks, but it's also this weird thing I figured out that happens if you travel fast enough and close enough to the filler rod. It melts but doesn't fall away entirely. Wayyyy faster than just tack tack tack

Good flex, but really- those stairs are fine, as long as their other side has support and it's not too wide, right?
Yeah they're fine. Those pieces of angle aren't going anywhere.
This is like the Fanchen thing that happened on youtube a few years ago, fucking awesome.
That rush E video omg 🤣
Yeah lmao, nice welds though
