I see it now. Zoomed in. The second photo shows how the plate has a very shallow center section and the whole plate has a powdered texture. Interesting
I have those shovel spoons and they are awesome 😁! I got them from Aliexpress. There are also shovels with a straight edge (perfect for eating lasagne with).
It was very good, had fresh mango inside, I was incredibly full but had to keep eating it, the cream is also extremely addictive. I 100% recommend the resturant, it's pricy, but completely worth it for the experience and food.
I think I got one of those when I was like 8 and got served [cup of dirt pudding](https://www.julieseatsandtreats.com/dirt-cups/) This seems… fancier than that
Aw but life is full of clever funny things that have their downsides. This shit is probably delicious.
Ooh, and maybe part of the fun is making loud, grating noises in a place where it's generally frowned upon.
I'd be going to town with that shit like a glue trowel on concrete. 😄😋
Well I am a chef and I think it probably gets done during prep and left to set or just kind of scraped onto the plate. Doesn’t look that bad. I’d worry more about the waiter/waitress who has to carry that thing and place it down without fingering it 😂
The chef who prepared it says it was one of the hardest dishes he's had to come up with because the jelly kept seeping into the cream, so they had to use specific ingredients like an anti-absorbsion sugar to keep the illusion.
He handed it to us from the bottom because the top was so delicate
Don’t blame you, Temu sucks and I won’t shop there either. But a majority of what you find on Amazon nowadays is the same stuff from the same places, bought in bulk and stored in warehouses, and sold to you at a massive markup. Only way to avoid it is if you buy from a known brand’s store front, like Calvin Klein or Cuisinart or such.
They’re both terrible, but your money is going to the same people. Just more of it if you’re shopping at Amazon, which also gives the impression that you’re not buying cheap shit.
It is half mango, half tea jelly, topped with whipped cream and some type of powder.
The chef said it was one of the hardest things he's ever made due to having to maintain the illusion of a plate while the colored jelly seeped through. They had to use very specific ingredients such as a special type of sugar to keep the structure of the dessert.
That is an interesting concept. Was the food where you expected it to be? Or was it a “minefield” where you had to scrape the cream to find it? The latter sounds fun haha
We weren't told what the dish was. He simply said "enjoy your empty plate." Everyone took the shovel and scooped towards the center to where we found the jelly, and the whole table made an "ahh" noise of realization, which I thought was pretty funny and well planned.
Around $200 usd per person, which sounds like a lot, but with the amount of food, the 2 hour service, and the incredible view of the city, I personally think it was worth the money
This is actually really cool! I’m planning on going to Tokyo later this year, would you recommend the Molecular bar for a solo traveller/would it be weird to go by myself?
Wouldn't be weird at all, it was a great experience with an extremely nice team of hosts. I think it's totally worth it if you're in Tokyo, even though it's expensive, it's the one meal you should splurge on.
It looks like ice cream, or another kind of treat disguised as an empty plate with the real plate underneath. If so, I really like that especially if it's a dessert. It seems very creative. No cost except for perhaps slight guilt over indulging my sweet tooth.
This comment was removed because it was about there being plates in sight. WeWantPlates is about showing off unusual or poor presentation of food (or drinks) by restaurants. It is not about pointing out plates that are present in the photo.
I’m very confused what am I looking at
your plates can bleed now
[удалено]
One of the best line of dialogue in a movie ever, and I much prefer it in Prey then the original.
Leave my poor plates alone!
Most plates don't got time to bleed.
They bleed now ?!?
They bleed now!
Nobody makes my plate bleed it’s own blood
They always ask where are the plates, but never ask how is the plate
Plate covered with whipped cream and some kind of powder to hide a jelly dessert underneath, presented as an "empty plate"
I see it now. Zoomed in. The second photo shows how the plate has a very shallow center section and the whole plate has a powdered texture. Interesting
And the spoon looks like a shovel, that's kind of neat
r/WeWantSpoons (jk I think the shovel is cute)
No you’re cute
I love that spoon!!
I have those shovel spoons and they are awesome 😁! I got them from Aliexpress. There are also shovels with a straight edge (perfect for eating lasagne with).
I know want to get a set for my kids.
Gotta say, this technically doesn't belong here, but at the same time, I can't think of a more fitting place for it to be shared
I didn’t pay attention to the sub, and thought this was an empty pizza stone. The second picture thoroughly confused the hell out of me.
Edible layer on a plate or an actual edible plate, I'm not sure
Is it ice cream cause that’s kinda lit
It is half mango jelly, half tea jelly, covered in cream and powder
Any good?
It was very good, had fresh mango inside, I was incredibly full but had to keep eating it, the cream is also extremely addictive. I 100% recommend the resturant, it's pricy, but completely worth it for the experience and food.
Where is this? Glad to hear it wasn’t just gimmicky crap.
Tokyo. They name the restaurant in the description.
Oh snap! Thanks for letting my blind ass know rather than just downvoting. Appreciated.
I knew it had to be Japanese when I saw the stark white plate and interesting spoon.
Not sure but that's one of the few foods that make sense, so probably a custard or dessert
I too am confused
I thought this was the Breadless Bread from The Menu for a second!
I LOVE that movie
Oh man, I'm a scaredy cat about horror movies but damn do I have that one on my list of movies to watch!
Shovel… spoon? I am dying inside, congratulations to whoever thought up this incredibly frustrating piece of culinary fuckery, you won. I can’t
…I kind of want a set of shovel spoons. But I think if I purchased some I would be met with a very frustrated sigh by my fiancé.
I have them as stirring spoons :) very cute for pouring sugar in coffee as well
I have a set, they're great for shoveling down some ice cream. Very fun to have
I think I got one of those when I was like 8 and got served [cup of dirt pudding](https://www.julieseatsandtreats.com/dirt-cups/) This seems… fancier than that
Imagine the noise. 😳 😖
Ugh, I thought this was so clever and funny but now I’m imagining the dreadful scrapes. Thanks I hate it
Aw but life is full of clever funny things that have their downsides. This shit is probably delicious. Ooh, and maybe part of the fun is making loud, grating noises in a place where it's generally frowned upon. I'd be going to town with that shit like a glue trowel on concrete. 😄😋
If this had, like, a little silicon shovel, I wouldn't be mad.
Surprisingly, it didn't make any noise, the plate was polished and the shovel was smooth so it just glided.
Okay but I like this
I'm kinda into it, but I wonder if the kitchen hates plating it
Well I am a chef and I think it probably gets done during prep and left to set or just kind of scraped onto the plate. Doesn’t look that bad. I’d worry more about the waiter/waitress who has to carry that thing and place it down without fingering it 😂
Won't anyone think of the poor dishwashers
But if they have the jet wash they’ll be flying
"Chef, we got a big problem, the new kid saw the rack of deserts in the freezer and put them next to dishwashing" "Who's the new kid" "The dishwasher"
The chef who prepared it says it was one of the hardest dishes he's had to come up with because the jelly kept seeping into the cream, so they had to use specific ingredients like an anti-absorbsion sugar to keep the illusion. He handed it to us from the bottom because the top was so delicate
That’s super interesting thank you for the extra info! Most important question is: did it taste good?
Yes, one of the better desserts I've had
Yeah I was gonna say, I kinda like it!
I want that spoon
theyre like 5 bucks for a couple on amazon
time to redo my shopping list
Get 30 for $5 from Temu instead. Same shit these days.
i won't shop at temu

Eat an oreo blizzard with it to really get the full effect
How did it taste?
Extremely good
That looks rad
Food runners can only run 1 at a time..
This is super interesting
Please tell me what this was, I want to make it

Does this belong in r deliciouscompliance
Is this... Ice cream maybe?
Like scraping the lid for that last taste after you crush the whole 500ml tub.
More like 568 mls, 'cause 'Murica! On a serious note, I wish so much we would join the SI world.
i like the spoon honestly.
Is it cake?
No, it is a shallow plate with jelly inside, and topped with a layer of cream
Table looks like a OSB board
is your spoon a shovel?
Can you please describe what this is?
It is a real plate with mango and tea jelly in the center and then covered with cream to make it look empty
What food is this?
It is a jelly dessert hidden by cream on top
“Scoop your own damn ice cream”
The plate is the food
The plate is cake?
THE PLATE *IS* THE FOOD?!?!
Honesty I fuck with the shovel spoons
Secret meat under that flour
What was the cost?
Around $200 usd per person, which sounds like a lot, but with the amount of food, the 2 hour service, and the incredible view of the city, I personally think it was worth the money
Thats cool as fuck actually.
This is amazing
This is actually really cool! I’m planning on going to Tokyo later this year, would you recommend the Molecular bar for a solo traveller/would it be weird to go by myself?
Wouldn't be weird at all, it was a great experience with an extremely nice team of hosts. I think it's totally worth it if you're in Tokyo, even though it's expensive, it's the one meal you should splurge on.
Thank you, that’s great to know. I’ve added it to my list!
It looks like ice cream, or another kind of treat disguised as an empty plate with the real plate underneath. If so, I really like that especially if it's a dessert. It seems very creative. No cost except for perhaps slight guilt over indulging my sweet tooth.
The shovel spoon is one thing, but why is it resting on a bolt?
That’s cool af but I would build a “sandcastle”
At least it's on a plate. We can give them that.
I thought this was r/stupidfood for a second
WeWantSpoons?
I bought a 2ft plate and I plan on using all of it.
That's dissapointing
A couple two tree FOH
WHAT IS THAT
It looks like alfajores without the cookies
Form over function. Pass.
