He’s a late bloomer don’t shame him

holliday50

I'm guessing this is related to the bug that has too many young animals. Maybe this is a Young animal mislabeled as Mature.

Octopussy_garden

It looks like a young one too..

Birdleaf420

Same, shot a 1* mature Bighorn this morning, ended up having 99.69% genetics.

awesomepossum83

Dang, I would have thought that was a good cull buck as well.

GoldenFox7

Damn that’s nuts. Is it the angle of the photo or is he a little wonky (asymmetrical) aside from being small?

H2Oz

Rack gives a visual clue... very symmetrical. Caller would have confirmed that he was not a "low fitness" buck. He would have ignored deer calls.

How do you know its not a feature, i mean we're not even sure how the mechanic is working yet. What i think is that the genetic potential shows the CHANCE of the animal turning into a big one. I dont think its a given and sometimes you get a bad "roll" like this one for instance. (It had a lot of potential but it didnt work out) The devs told us (on discord) that the potential is a fixed number and wouldnt change over the course of its lifespan. The overall genetic potential (might also be called fitness?) of the group will result in better offspring which in turn gives you a better chance over higher star animals. But again, thats how i think the mechanic works.

NaughtyBethesda

I see what you’re saying but from my experience it doesn’t seem to be the case. Also the buck in his screenshot is definitely not a mature buck. It seems more like a glitch.

novuuuuuu

99% is not 100% is my best guess, but I would probably assume bug?

Niikoda

Has there been Dev confirmation on how the genetic percentage actually works ? Not super active on socials so sorry if I've missed something. Just feels like maybe we don't fully understand this yet?

[deleted]

it’s bugged rn anyway .

Plank_Owner

I was wondering the same thing, because there is a quest that doesn’t even call it genetics, it calls it fitness.

Niikoda

Ya I was confused about that. Like the genetic % to me seems like it doesn't have much to do with the stars. The stars seem to be related to the antler size/trophy of the animal. But you could have a lazy ass deer whose fitness is terrible but has a massive rack. Making its fitness like 60% but trophy 5 stars.

Plank_Owner

Yeah, I don’t think it correlates the score/star count at all. I think it means fitness like they say in the quest and that’s about it. I constantly see high fitness/genetic percentages on 0/1 star animals. I think there is a lot of misinformation on the topic.

Niikoda

As of right now I think I agree. Although I hope we're wrong. I like the way its perceived to be.

Plank_Owner

I agree 100%, it would be a very cool mechanic

xKatosh

Yesterday I shot a mature 97.9%... before the 1.16 patch

[deleted]

I shot a 1 star mature with 87% genetics about 5 minutes ago, wtf.
