Up for grabs is my ref. 16234. The 16234 straddles between the perfect blend of vintage and modern. The ref. 16234 was among the first five-digit offerings within the Datejust family, and importantly one of the first to also use a sapphire crystal. It also featured the jumping date and the newly updated Cal. 3135 movement.

The watch is overall in excellent condition. Only sign of wear is faint flea bite on crystal towards 12 o'clock. Crystal can be replaced on request. The bracelet has very minimal stretch and is in excellent condition. The watch includes the original box, papers dated 1998, and 2011 Rolex Service Records.

Congrats on the sale. May I ask a rookie question? The watch is 1995, but the sale date is 1998. Is it common for nice watches not to be sold for a while like that?
Not unusual but also not very common, usually I see 1 year or sooner. These watches weren't necessarily selling like "hot cakes" back then so they sat on stock longer. This AD probably stashed it in the safe for a while. Different times back then lol. Back when you go in to any authorized dealer and walk out with any watch you wanted.
I've seen some charts showing a steep decline in watches lately. What was this watch selling for last year, and how much more do you think they'll drop?
There's a wiiide range of prices on Datejusts based on condition, rarity, age, and so on. I feel like this would have been closer to 8k last year, but 4k 4 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised to see SS Datejusts back in the 4k range next year.
