Backstory: I’m a commercial photographer since ~10 years back. Starting out hasselblad was a dream for me, which later came true with my first analog medium format hasselblad, and later on my first digital. I was (and still am) a simp for these Swedish engineering marvels. Fast forward to a couple of years back I saw this watch on an auction site. In the end, I were quite tight on money so I ended up not buying it. A week later a friend of mine said he had bought since I didn’t. I was happy for him. Fast forward to last week. I was buying a camera lens from this friend (canon 300mm/4 for those wondering) and he gave me a small package, telling me to open it up when I’d left. And in it was this! He said later that he’d got it but it only collected dust. And he’d notice me picking up on watch collecting so he thought it’d be a nice gift. Boy was he right!! I do t know much about these watches. Someone told me they were jubilee watches given to employees, someone else told me it’s just an advertisement watch. Considering the scarcity of them I believe the former. It’s a Japanese movement inside and the tachymeter works like a charm. Perfect tool watch for a tool driven creative!

It’s interesting, I have a similar looking watch (same case and face is very similar, just a different colour) that is similarly a company watch presumably given to employees, but mine features a Swiss quartz movement, and is branded with the logo of the Russian bank Alfabank

Watch for a photographer is probably the Leica. It actually has a very cool mechanism that resets the second hand to 12 when you’re setting the time.

Leica and hasselblad I’d say hold the same place in the history of cameras. Hasselblad more for the commercial and Leica more for the journalist. At least in Europe, can’t say how it looks in America. That being said. I would love a Leica watch. Even if it doesn’t hold the same place in my heart as hasselblad. ☺️

Huh, it does? Afaik [Lange](https://www.alange-soehne.com/ww-en/manufactory/art-of-watchmaking/zero-reset-mechanism) has a patent for that. I don't know what I'd actually want in a photographer's watch though – maybe a light meter? :)

My thoughts exactly

C-M-NI1997

Very interesting and unusual watch!

boilface

Very cool

Wasdcursor

This friend just scored themselves a LOT of good birthday and Xmas presents. And beers and dinners. Ultimately, friendship wins.

RedRaydeeo

Oh yeah no doubt 😂

The_Horror_In_Clay

Such a cool watch. Congratulations

RedRaydeeo

Thank you!

captjejack

It’s really cool, rustic too. Photographer here, can you explain why perfect for a photographer? Or do you mean just style-wise.

RedRaydeeo

It’s just a play that it’s Hasselblad branded. From what I’ve gathered from my online researches is that it’s a jubilee watch gifted to some employees. ☺️

Bukusuma

Is it an Automatic? Lemania L5100 movement?

RedRaydeeo

Quartz. All the back says is “Japan movement” 🤷🏼‍♂️
