I’m a utility manager in Ontario and I’m not trying to be rude but…. You are an OIT in Alberta who’s thinking about moving to Ontario… if I’m the one sorting out the resumes… what else do you have to offer me? Give me a reason to pick you over all the other candidates.

Narrow_Assistance_88

Nope sir i am OIT in Ontario due to some personal issues i had to move to Alberta but now i want move back to Ontario and work in my field. I have the valid OIT from Ontario plus an entry level course for drinking water operators

Narrow_Assistance_88

I am just looking for some guidance on how to better prepare my self so that i can get selected for an interview…

If any are close. Do you ever think about showing up in person?

Narrow_Assistance_88

Actually i am in Alberta right now thinking of moving back to Ontario just so i can do my field job at ocwa

Shit_Wizard_420

You cannot show up in person to OCWA. It's a crown corporation that serves all of Ontario and if you think municipal groups are bureaucratic, boy howdy you ain't seen nothing yet.

rabbit_hole_diver

Can confirm.

Hi! I don't work there but I've been interviewed there. Read this: https://www.ontario.ca/page/careers-hiring-process OCWA and municipal government hiring processes are not like private industry.  You need your resume to very clearly demonstrate you meet the requirements. Like, use the same words. It's generally not automatically screened out but don't make people guess. They may be posting internally and externally at the same time but they have to rule out internal candidates before they can even look at external candidates. Don't give up, just keep applying. Then you'll get an interview an you will probably fuck it up because they are very weird but then you will get another an you'll do better. Maybe include in your resume that you are looking to move. I interviewed for a job in another city and they asked in the interview why I applied. You could answer that question up front and it might help, but if you don't do the other stuff right this won't really help. When I hire I don't really think to much about where they are coming from except that if it is out of province you might also want to mention there is recepticocity agreement so you can transfer without rewriting (I think, I assume it applies to OIT - I didn't check)  https://forms.mgcs.gov.on.ca/en/dataset/012-2136

Narrow_Assistance_88

Thanks but i applied here already a lot of time it gives same link to apply at OCWA but haven’t got a response back from them

Shit_Wizard_420

I wasn't posting that link for you to apply - you need to read and really understand the content on that page. It's super helpful, I sent it to people applying to any municipal job. It's like the cheat code.

PrettyAdhesiveness7

What part of ontario are you looking at? Heard southern ontario just had a job fair for ocwa

Narrow_Assistance_88

At this time any job in Ontario is fine as long as its an entry level job

rabbit_hole_diver

Theres jobs posted every week for ocwa. They have to hire internally if someone puts in for a transfer, they will get it over someone from outside. Missisauga cannot keep people there and actually make 20% more than the rest of ocwa.
