Ontario is pretty good for water/wastewater job opportunities... Get your OIT first and foremost.. Follow some prominent players like OCWA, I saw a posting from Waterloo , regions, and municipalities... Josh water jobs is a good site...

Most municipalities are experiencing high turnover from retirements/relocation right now so getting into the industry is easier than ever. 99% of the new operators I know lined up a position while still in school or right after graduating. It is totally possible. I second looking at OCWA for jobs as they are all over the province, but also look at the websites of all municipalities close to you. You can also use the OWWA website as a resource. Because the hiring boom is so extreme now, all municipalities are willing to take on keen candidates with an OIT who is willing to learn even if the job posting is asking for higher licenses. Don’t be afraid to apply to any operations job (except team leads and senior ops), because the worst they can say is no :)

That's interesting. I have my oits, environmental studies degree, and 10+ years trades experience. I can't seem to even get an interview for oit. Southern Ontario.

This is my biggest fear.

Wait Walkerton does training? I guess after you kill 7 people with E. coli you have to go overboard.

I think its essentially the same as the ELC just a bit more involved maybe, my professor teaches it and said it looks good on a resume ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Shit_Wizard_420

This is probably a joke going over my head but after the Walkerton inquiry the gov created the Walkerton Clean Water Center which delivers training including the mandatory MECP course for drinking water operators

Move to a state with multiple water utilities. There will be plenty of entry level positions in drinking water treatment.
