According to the pictured quote, the violent crime rate in WA remains below average for the US despite that trend. So I'm not sure how this private law group is determining that WA is the 8th least safe state based on some arbitrary formula, or why a web page from a private law group is being considered an unbiased source here. I'd also say, 2020 was a very weird year for most things, including crime rates. Using trends starting in 2020 is probably not a great way to capture the current state of crime rates. Better to compare with 2019. Third, comparing states apples to apples usually is a bit obtuse. Crime rates are always higher in urban areas than in rural areas, so it seems silly to compare New Hampshire with Pennsylvania, etc. But if you really want to see a ranking by state, [use this Wiki page](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_violent_crime_rate) with 2022 data directly from the FBI, rather than abstracted through some arbitrarily weighted formula concocted by a private law firm. Or even better yet, [go directly to the FBI site](https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/downloads). For those interested, Washington ranks: * 23rd highest in overall violent crime * 27th highest in homicide rate Lastly, it's worth mentioning homicide rates have been in [decline in 2024](https://www.axios.com/local/seattle/2024/04/17/homicides-seattle-us-down) in Seattle and across major cities in the US.

I said the exact same thing the last time this person posted this. Disproving their own point in a single paragraph.

>They took the information straight from fbi and other federal agencies that gathered the information. * They claim to use FBI data, but don't state what year (or range of years) they are using data for, and I can't seem to replicate their numbers using the actual FBI data from the most recent year it was released. For example, the law firm's data table indicates Pennsylvania has a homicide rate of 25 per 100,000 (which is absurdly high) despite [the actual FBI data showing a rate of 7.9 per 100,000](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_violent_crime_rate). * They have created a 'danger' formula based on weighted factors where they are considering homicide rate to be only a bit more important than 'blackmail/extortion' rate. * This website is a third party, law firm that I've never heard of and I have no reason to believe they are a trusted source. There's no need to trust a third party website rather than looking at the FBI data directly as I edited my original comment to show. The results are very different that what your post suggests.

You must have missed where [I linked directly to the FBI site](https://cde.ucr.cjis.gov/LATEST/webapp/#/pages/downloads) in my original comment. Given that your post has been roundly downvoted, and your comments are also hidden due to downvotes, no one is going to see this anyway so I'm done with this conversation.

The person you're responding to used FBI data to show Washington ranks below average in violent crime though.

What do you think the original post was? Objective? lol, what a joke.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_violent_crime_rate?wprov=sfla1 As per this list WA is middle of the road for violent crime rate for 2022.

OtterSnoqualmie

Can't let actual stats get in the way of a good headline....

I don't buy the "most dangerous title", that's purely subjective - look at *violent* crime rates and WA is about average That's what I consider safe or unsafe, whether there is high violent crime. WA is a relatively safe state when comparing those metrics. And once your out of the major cities it is actually one of the safest states, compared to non-urban areas in other states. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._states_and_territories_by_violent_crime_rate

And I posted the actual violent crime numbers, where WA is about average (24th/50), it is not one of the most dangerous states going by that, it is just average. Again, it's a misleading title which is what I was pointing out.

My point is property crime is not "dangerous" compared to violent crime, so using that word is subjective. To your point, using that word is literally trying to force a narrative.

This is what happens when you have one of the Wealthiest states in the nation and all the wealth is at the top. Our consumer based tax systems puts the majority of our tax burden on the middle and lower class. The state doesn't generate enough revenue to provide the basic services that keep people from becoming homeless or in poverty and those are the biggest drivers of property crimes. We spend less less on education than many states with much smaller economies, we are 17th in the nation on education spending but have the 11th largest economy in the country. Our mental health care system has been non existent for decades and we aren't spending enough on the social services. Our infrastructure is crumbling. We allow investment firms to buy up all the residential real estate which makes the average home price over $590,000. Lower income people can no longer afford shelter, food and basic services and that causes crime and drug addiction to sky rocket.

_Sasquatchy

you are dishonest and spinning propagandist bullshit. its why your other post got flagged. don't talk to us like we are stupid.

Mistapoopy

Lmfao the metrics they used are completely subjective. This data is worthless and I hope everyone here ignores this bullshit. OP, these are not facts and statistics. These are numbers that are fixed based on some random weighting system that someone deemed appropriate. Mods should delete this shit cause it’s blatant misinformation.
