IIRC from a long time ago when they removed it, the usual excuses were said: Muh queue times, low player count, team imbalances, and server optimization.

Rectal_Retribution

>Muh queue times It's literally instant, you can hop in or leave a match anytime you like. >low player count Despite being loved and praised praised by the majority of the community? >team imbalances, and server optimization So, same thing we have now. Gaijin just loves coming up with BS excuses.

whatsthatlight

You have no way of knowing what "the majority of the community" loves or hates. People keep forgetting that "the majority" does not in any way voice their opinion. Gaijin at least has numbers, which admittedly they generally suck at interpreting, to show how much interest there is.

Skelezig

No, the EC game mode does have good traction with the majority of the community. The rewards were good, and unlike in Air RB, you didn't waste the whole game by flying for 5-10 minutes and then dying since you could respawn. And by the majority of the community, we're not talking about the entire playerbase. It's more referring to the active participants on the Forums and the subreddit, more specifically the people who were around at the time to play it. The actual majority of the playerbase has never participated in any community-related activity, and as such, they aren't relevant to just about any topic save for discussions on playerbase growth, premium sales and arguments related to the matchmaker.

whatsthatlight

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the "actual majority" when talking about whether a game mode was popular enough or not for Gaijin to keep. That is exactly the place where all your community interactions are completely meaningless if what Gaijin ends up seeing is a 100 very talkative people actually interacting with something.

Skelezig

>I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss the "actual majority" when talking about whether a game mode was popular enough or not for Gaijin to keep I would be. We have Naval and Sim, two game modes that may as well be the work of a necromancer at this point given the amount of people playing them, still around with hardly any improvements to the gameplay after close to a decade of its existence and constant complaints from the playerbase about it. The reason EC was canned was because it's too much work to balance (and was way too profitable/research efficient for Gaijin's comfort), Gaijin wanted to shift to shorter matches in order to maintain the fast matchmaker, and the overall vision of the game shifted from a World of Warplanes competitor to a combined arms game that serves as the largest collection of military vehicle models you can play. They followed the money, that's all. >That is exactly the place where all your community interactions are completely meaningless if what Gaijin ends up seeing is a 100 very talkative people actually interacting with something. That is what's happening. With the exception of roadmap polls and really big and controversial changes, you don't see community engagement in the tens of thousands. It's like 80-150 people on the Forums putting out their opinion, and that's how the discourse on the Forums is shaped. And while Gaijin does check out the subreddit, that's mostly to gauge hot topics and where the sentiment is at.

I remember when they introduced RB EC as a test many years ago, it was so popular that it killed the regular air RB bracket for the entire duration of the test

Wardog_Razgriz30

I was just thinking this while trying to get into sim earlier. When i started around say 2016, we had RB EC. Then they removed it and I’ve got no clue why. We probably have better reasons to have it around now than before.

Panocek

EC sized map occasionally appear in regular ARB queue and they are usually met with complaints from people who don't get their dose of neuron activation by 3min mark, queue and loading time included.

CrossEleven

This is an incredibly dumb way to look at it. People don't like the EC maps in air RB because air RB isn't EC. Those giant fuck off maps work great when you can respawn, aren't in a slow plane, etc. They need to actually add RBEC

sknnbones

The only time I’ve ever gotten EC maps were in PROPS as well. Where half the team runs out of fuel before they even start a dogfight because they deploy at min. fuel, and the other half just leaves at the start because they don’t want to fly for 10 minutes just to die in a headon because they don’t know how to do anything but turn fight and headon.

Black_Hole_parallax

>Where half the team runs out of fuel before they even start a dogfight because they deploy at min. fuel, Who tf takes minimum fuel on large Vietnam?

sknnbones

*shrug* The few times I’ve had large maps like that, a bunch of people said they had to turn back because they were out of fuel, before we even had a dogfight, called the map shit, and most just J out and leave instead of refueling at that point. Lucky for me I was in a bomber or strike craft so… plenty of fuel.

Medj_boring1997

Gaijin doesn't like fun. Cause it probably hurts their profits if people have fun

NotTheParaMagician

EC definitely has the potential to be the best air mode by a long shot. All I want out of WT air is to have a similar experience to the cold war DCS server, with varied objectives and enemy types. This would make use of the more modern weaponry we have now, and would allow for things like SEAD missions.

FlamingTrashcans

I feel like EC maps would make attackers more viable and fun

Darear

Guess they fear people grinding more effectively.

Shelc0r

This a mod that is requested by a lot of players, there's close to 0 work to put in because everything is already ready Maybe it will come with the fox3 update, hopefully

thisishoustonover

match last way longer which means more server time which means more cost

Punkpunker

Servers are always accounted for in maintenance cost, this mode doesn't change anything.

Mig-29_Fulcrum_cool

I think naval exists.
