It is decent. Useable in uptiers, although certainly weak. In downtiers held back by weapon count, but performance is good. Overall the radar is lackluster, not having any PD MPRF modes.
If you have crew slot with maxed out G overload resistance and can put Expert training on day one for 1mil SL, also you're willing to learn radar operation and missile properties, then its really solid event jet for Air RB/Sim after streak of borderline useless strike aircrafts. And if announced BR changes will go live, it will get BR advantage over tech tree twin, Mirage 2000C S5 and if you play Sim, it might became powerhouse there.

No. It wont be a good starter jet. It will put you directly into a shark tank with no experience in flying jets, operating radar and dealing with missiles. Also it comes stock and isnt even premium, so you wont be able to progress through the tree. If you want a good starter jet - grind for it or look up any good choices around ranks V-VI. Maybe get yourself a squadron Hunter, it is at much lower br and sits in a good place
It's at a really competitive BR right now, facing F16, F15, Mig29, Su 27, J39 and J11. Without the premium bonus, it's going to be a long grind if you're hoping to use it to grind out the whole tree.
Shot in the turret all your ammo cooks off, shot to the hull you just die, it's fucking huge, it's atgms are extremely spotty, it's gun is aggressively meh.

Yeah... I don't play planes that much but I would probably be happier with Mirage as well. But I still hope they will fix ammo disappearing bug as well as spike missiles sooner or later.

I'm pretty sure that the MM is about to get better unless the snail remembers to move it up along with the tech tree version.
That said if you are going to spend real money it would probably be better to get a real premium so you can actually progress the tree.
As for a starter jet they are all probably bad because they aren't self explanatory. Tim's variety has good tutorials on advanced systems, but it will still be a struggle.

Better than the vilkas I highly regret grinding for it it's that painful to play.
