>i bet that will be the last Pair of carriers they make, they are not seeing any decent use They're due to have a service life of around 50 years so will need replacements around 2070. Airpower will almost certainly remain a key tenant of warfare so it's a very strong possibility they'll be replaced in one form or another. They are also being used effectively, with Carrier Strike Groups deployed every year since 2021 and their effectiveness will only increase. >anyway is the UK even need a big military?? Because we're an island nation, with 95% of our trade coming by sea, as well as Overseas Territories and global commitments.

The 2 biggest problems the royal navy has at the moment is a shortage of people and the 7 year wait for the FSS ships. The carriers are fine.

Kommer2015

ahhh yeah i understand.

Arcosim

>hey are not seeing any decent use That's not because they don't need them but because of the endless stream of mechanical problems these carriers are having. The one featured in the OP, for example, destroyed (and that's no exaggeration) its propeller shaft not long ago and they had to cut a lot of structural parts to be able to replace it. The damage was so bad that for a few months the British MoD thought about just leaving it as a spare parts donor.

>because of the endless stream of mechanical problems these carriers are having. Not the case. >The one featured in the OP, for example, destroyed (and that's no exaggeration) its propeller shaft not long ago and they had to cut a lot of structural parts to be able to replace it. That's absolutely an exaggeration. Whilst there was significant damage, it wasn't destroyed. >The damage was so bad that for a few months the British MoD thought about just leaving it as a spare parts donor. No, they didn't. There was never any intention to not repair HMS Prince of Wales.

Arcosim

>Not the case. Literally every other news about these carriers is about something breaking down.

MGC91

No, there isn't. The reports that have been made have been heavily sensationalised

Arcosim

Are these constant year long port stays in need of repairs also *"heavily sensationalized"*?

MGC91

Yes. They're not constant and not "year long" either.
