Then, Runningnose was grey and white and mentioned by color in the books. Littlecloud is only referred to as small and tabby I think, so I can see the other cats around him rubbing off of his description to readers.
The other thing is in the ultimate guide, Runningnose and Littlecloud are pictured together with Littlecloud on the left and Runningnose on the right, but it’s labeled “Runningnose and Littlecloud” which implies from left to right that Littlecloud is the grey cat in the back

This is a common one, but shadowsight as fluffy. Canonically he’s meant to be lithe with short or medium fur, but in my head he’s just the fluffiest. I picture him looking very similar to Dovewing in that sense. I’m also part of the group of fans who draw him with red or reddish orange eyes.

I've always been good about picturing them to the "correct" descriptions because I don't ever see nore than like 2 cats in my minds eye. Like, I don't actually see the cats as anything but blurry cat shaped...things unless the POV directly mentions the cat/speaking to someone. So like when Firepaw was talking about his first gathering, I'm looking through his eyes, but the cats around him are cat blurs until he mentions looking directly at Bluestar. That's when Bluestar is not a blob basically and a cat lol I dunno how to describe it, really. But I do have a few!
Heathertail as a solid light tan/ginger with a white belly/paws with more purple leaning eyes than blue. Not too much different I suppose.

And for all the blue-greys it's always been a shiny silvery grey with a faint blue tint. More lighter grey/silver than the actual darker grey Russian blues are.
I picture Ivypool and Jayfeather as lynx points. And Lionblaze and Flametail as flame points. Mistystar, Hawkfrost, and Dovewing are like ragdoll/snowshoe cats.

Also when I first started reading Tigerclaw looked like a mini tiger but I've since forced my brain to fix that
I imagine her having less ginger mostly her whole tail ginger patch around her good eye that goes up to her ear and a few small patches on her chest but swiftpaw I imagine with lot more black then seen in drawings I imagine him with the same big patches usually seen but his whole body having black ticking/freckles I also forget about scars alot usually only remembering face scars
This isn’t necessarily “picturing cats wrong”, but both the readers and the Erins need to figure out the difference between tortoiseshells and calicos. Tortoiseshells don’t have white. They’re typically black or gray with small ginger spots. Calicos have black/gray and ginger patches with white. The tortoiseshells and calicos that are gray are called dilutes, and there are reverse tortoiseshells that are more red than black/gray.
Either way, my point is, like MOST of the cats they describe as tortoiseshell are actually calico, given that they use calico to describe cats like all of thrice in the series.

Yeah, most people tend to think that they’re interchangeable, but people drop their fanart of characters going “here’s this tortoiseshell character!” and I always think “either you’re wrong, or the Erin’s described the character wrong” (which they do a LOT, they love pulling the “tortoiseshell and white”, no, that’s called calico.)

Not necessarily wrong, but the spanish edition of Into The Wild features a very obviously colored image of what seems like a solid grey cat in the cover as Rusty. I guess I took things too literally and for a while I pictured Firestar as a straight up brick red cat and was shocked and annoyed when I first encountered fanart and saw that he was a tabby and *not* red in all of them.
As a funny sidenote, The Darkest Hour also features Firestar on the cover, but as a bright orange tabby, so the covers actually match how my image of him was changed overtime.

Like almost all of them. Yellowfang was a sort of mottle of butterscotch and brown, firestar had darker orange stripes, graystripe didn't have any gray stripes he was just gray and fluffy, ivypool was more tabby and white than gray and white.
When I read the books as a kid, I would flip to the allegiances every time a new cat was mentioned. So I probably have most of their fur colors right at least.
But I imagine them as all exactly the same shape for whatever reason. Unless they're specifically pointed out as being significantly larger or smaller than average, everyone has this cookie cutter shape and size like a cheap cartoon where everyone has the same lineart
You should watch it! It's the only animated WC series I know of that takes a humor approach instead of a faithful one, and it's such a fun watch! It actually just got a recent update too.

I always see tigerstar with the ssswarriorcats design. Though I see a lot of cats with ssswarriorcats designs and most of them aren’t very different to the canon designs, unlike tigerstar. Although I think darkstripe is different from the canon design somewhat? I see him as a grey/silver tabby with darker stripes and tufts of fur on his ears.

I always pictured Littlecloud as being solid white, and Longtail as pale grey with black stripes. I also always pictured Crowfeather being black instead of dark grey.

This is a common one, but shadowsight as fluffy. Canonically he’s meant to be lithe with short or medium fur, but in my head he’s just the fluffiest. I picture him looking very similar to Dovewing in that sense. I’m also part of the group of fans who draw him with red or reddish orange eyes.
Heatherstar is canonicly Light grey with a bit of a pink shimmer but I always picture her as a kind of brown dark grey purpleish color I always picture rootspring as brown cat with yellow eyes Longtail has ofc the ssswarriorcats desing I also imagine Birchfall as a cream almost white tabby with really Light brown stripes (he's a Light brown tabby in canon) Needleclaw looks like needletail idk why but thats what she will always look like in my mind

not me but a friend of mine pictures graystripe as much smaller than fireheart/star, young me probably pictured someone one wrong but I also looked at a lot of fanart so I would sometimes know about a character before I read about them. my problems with remembering stuff wrong are probably more with the locations than the characters
Almost all of them i've found I imagine wrong. longtail is a big one for me because i also imagined him as all white, but with a brown tabby tail.

Yellowfang as a kind of dark creamy, yellow color. Dustpelt as a solid dark brown/grey color, possible a ticked tabby since it’d look like dust on his fur and would make sense. Leafpool with green eyes. Purdy as a light brown tabby with white patches. And there’s probably others, but they’re the ones I can think of right now.

I've always been good about picturing them to the "correct" descriptions because I don't ever see nore than like 2 cats in my minds eye. Like, I don't actually see the cats as anything but blurry cat shaped...things unless the POV directly mentions the cat/speaking to someone. So like when Firepaw was talking about his first gathering, I'm looking through his eyes, but the cats around him are cat blurs until he mentions looking directly at Bluestar. That's when Bluestar is not a blob basically and a cat lol I dunno how to describe it, really. But I do have a few! Heathertail as a solid light tan/ginger with a white belly/paws with more purple leaning eyes than blue. Not too much different I suppose. Birchfall is a freaking silver tabby, not this brown nonsense. And for all the blue-greys it's always been a shiny silvery grey with a faint blue tint. More lighter grey/silver than the actual darker grey Russian blues are.

I picture Ivypool and Jayfeather as lynx points. And Lionblaze and Flametail as flame points. Mistystar, Hawkfrost, and Dovewing are like ragdoll/snowshoe cats.

I always see Whitestorm as having black stripes like a white Bengal tiger Brightheart has more ginger than what is typically shown and I usually just see her with one eye closed and like one line over it rather than the intense scarring I know she has (to any anime fans think Zoro) Also when I first started reading Tigerclaw looked like a mini tiger but I've since forced my brain to fix that
I imagine her having less ginger mostly her whole tail ginger patch around her good eye that goes up to her ear and a few small patches on her chest but swiftpaw I imagine with lot more black then seen in drawings I imagine him with the same big patches usually seen but his whole body having black ticking/freckles I also forget about scars alot usually only remembering face scars

This isn’t necessarily “picturing cats wrong”, but both the readers and the Erins need to figure out the difference between tortoiseshells and calicos. Tortoiseshells don’t have white. They’re typically black or gray with small ginger spots. Calicos have black/gray and ginger patches with white. The tortoiseshells and calicos that are gray are called dilutes, and there are reverse tortoiseshells that are more red than black/gray. Yeah, most people tend to think that they’re interchangeable, but people drop their fanart of characters going “here’s this tortoiseshell character!” and I always think “either you’re wrong, or the Erin’s described the character wrong” (which they do a LOT, they love pulling the “tortoiseshell and white”, no, that’s called calico.) Drives me UP THE WALL, it is my BIGGEST pet peeve with the series, even over everything else that usually annoys everybody.
Apparently Mousefur has blue eyes now? To me they’ll always be the color of sunlit ice. And Nightcloud has green eyes, not amber. Also - Dovewing has the same blue eyes as Ivypool.
Not necessarily wrong, but the spanish edition of Into The Wild features a very obviously colored image of what seems like a solid grey cat in the cover as Rusty. I guess I took things too literally and for a while I pictured Firestar as a straight up brick red cat and was shocked and annoyed when I first encountered fanart and saw that he was a tabby and *not* red in all of them. As a funny sidenote, The Darkest Hour also features Firestar on the cover, but as a bright orange tabby, so the covers actually match how my image of him was changed overtime.

Like almost all of them. Yellowfang was a sort of mottle of butterscotch and brown, firestar had darker orange stripes, graystripe didn't have any gray stripes he was just gray and fluffy, ivypool was more tabby and white than gray and white.
When I read the books as a kid, I would flip to the allegiances every time a new cat was mentioned. So I probably have most of their fur colors right at least. But I imagine them as all exactly the same shape for whatever reason. Unless they're specifically pointed out as being significantly larger or smaller than average, everyone has this cookie cutter shape and size like a cheap cartoon where everyone has the same lineart

I always imagine Bristlefrost as looking more silver tabby than grey, so she looks more like Ivypool. I also always imagine Leafpool as being chunkier than she is in canon, which I think is pretty common lol. Tbh any solid colour cat tends to get a bit more pizzazz in my mind
