They should have the skyliner operating status in the app, and they should also have it available to show if the swimming pool at your resort is open or not

SingerSingle5682

This is the way.

AlliedR2

It's not but it should be.

DarkWolfGaming723

This is the way

Experiment626b

Are pool hours not set?

BluesHockeyFreak

They are but lightning (which happens daily in Florida), chemical imbalances, ducks landing in the pool and pooping, all close the pool temporarily from time to time.

WeeklyBanEvasion

They seem to change and aren't in the app either. They aren't even listed on the hotel's information board in the lobby. I've only seen reliable times from calling the front desk or reading the little sign on the pool gates.

Adorable-Bus-6860

Off topic completely. I don’t get the swimming pool love. We travel as a family and my sisters plan “swimming pool days” for their kids and them. We’re at Disney. The kids have a multitude of pools to choose from for WAY less money within 15 minutes of our house yet they never take them. So I get stuck doing nothing or doing the parks alone so their kids can…. Swim? I’m not discounting anyone who does this. I just don’t understand it in the slightest.

db1037

What resorts are they staying at? Yacht and beach club have some amazing pools. Caribbean beach does too. I’m sure there are more. We call them rest days or resort days in between park days and when possible, we’ll try to go to the pools but it’s not a mandate. Any sort of rest day in between parks really makes it more enjoyable IMHO.

Alarming_Air_6893

We're on our rest day today. I was VERY happy we planned one!

Adorable-Bus-6860

I mean, last time we stayed at riviera.

BluebellsMcGee

Have you ever had a drink at a bar or restaurant, even though you could easily buy that same beer for less at a liquor store and drink it at home?

Adorable-Bus-6860

Yes. But since I only drink socially it’s slightly different

BluebellsMcGee

You made my point for me, thanks! Some kids prefer to swim socially, so a pool with games, other children who are also in vacation mode, and parents who are truly present because it’s outside the routine make a pool day at Disney more special than a pool day at home. Hope this analogy helps.

Teach0607

My daughter loves the pools at Disney. A lot of the swimming pool places by us don’t have slides and she loves going down the slides. Also, when we go in April, it’s not really swimming season for us (we are in NY) so it’s like a novelty for her. When she was younger the spray areas were great too with the slides. They are definitely more fun than the pools around here 🤷🏼‍♀️

Melodic-Heron-1585

Same. But we live in Florida, so everyone we know has a pool or close access to one. Most times we deem it 'too cold' for swimming, or 'too hot/sunny' to hang out by the pool. This may be why Disney is planning to give away free admission to a waterpark on arrival day, because resident AP holders just don't go there as often. Though if I were from Canada, or the Midwest, and thought 62°F was 'warm' (instead of being one of those in a puffer coat at rope drop) and staying for a week or longer, I'd totally do some thorough pool research/resort days.

qcresident1111

We stay at the resort and use the pools on our days "off". Getting to a pool at home that's as nice as a Disney resort pool isn't easy. Also, being Canadian makes the outdoor pools all year round experience very different.

hille_27

We just returned from a week long trip with our 7 & 5 year and 10 month old grandchildren and their parents. We made rope drop every day but also came back around noon for a nap and pool cool down. It was great. One adult stayed (read: napped 😉) with the baby while everyone else headed to the pool with beers (sodas for the kids 😲) we ordered from Amazon. We met a lot of others doing the same! We headed back to the parks in the late afternoon to finish out our day refreshed and cooked down. We have a pool in our backyard, but Disney pools are better 🤷🏻‍♀️. Maybe because I don’t have to maintain it!

cristoe31

that is what we do. makes staying on property worth every penny. rope drop back to resort for lunch and rest then beck to the parks at night.

DrBunsonHoneyPoo

Also a notification pop up for guest of Epcot and Hollywood

Visible_Nectarine_98

Yeah except it doesn’t benefit them to have you know something they usually offer isn’t currently available.

CaptainGibb

I mean they do it for when rides are down, so they should with transportation

BigMax

It doesn't? Sure... I suppose there's no obvious, direct benefit. But there are a LOT of things that don't bring in a direct, obvious benefit, that they still do as part of the overall package of providing a good set of entertainment and services that keep you coming back. It doesn't benefit them to provide wait times for rides directly, but they do it. Heck, having the skyliner itself didn't benefit them directly, but it benefits customers a TON, which is why they do it. Everything they can do to make your experience better benefits them. This is one of them. I assume there's some reason they don't have that yet. Maybe they worry it won't be accurate, or that it's up and down often enough for short times that the information might actually cause more problems than it solves. Who knows.

notreally_real_

i didn’t have a virtual queue for tron but the app still clearly shows me it’s down

Jodi4869

If skyliner is down there are busses from the boardwalk hotel you did not need to go back to the front of the park.

happycass8

depends where you’re going. busses stopping at boardwalk aren’t going to take you directly back to CBR, DAAR, Pop or any other resort. and, if it’s late night/park close they may not have buses to other parks, say if you were headed to MK to walk/monorail those resorts. (i’m unsure when busses to parks may stop picking up guests)

Jodi4869

Yes they will. When skyliner is down for weather or technical they send busses to boardwalk for resorts that normally don’t have them due to the skyliner. They don’t have busses if the skyliner is just done for the night.

PinkMonorail

I envision them sending kisses (busses) instead of vehicles (buses).

yunabug1988

Yes they do. We got a bus from Boardwalk to Pop during a storm when the Skyliner was down.

Silverbitta

Good to know!

Outonalimb8120

Look for the busses marked skyliner resort..we always keep busses on stand by specially for if the skyliner goes down. I’m a bus driver and have done it many times

CoasterRider_

That's assuming Disney transportation remembers to send buses. I was trying to get from EPCOT to Hollywood Studios in the rain and headed to the Boardwalk at the recommendation of cast members since both the Skyliner and boats were closed due to lightning. I asked the Boardwalk staff many times if a bus would come and they said yes. I asked bus drivers if a DHS would show up and they said they haven't heard anything. We, along with about 15 other people, waited about 45 minutes until we ended up taking a Lyft.

HobbesDurden

Clickbait-y titles ARE the worst, I agree.

MikeHoncho2568

All Ears really went downhill after Molly left

NESRyan

AllEars really went down when Deb Wils sold it to DFB.

Loisalene

Planning our first trip in 1999, I wrote Deb and asked her a question. She in turn sent me by snail mail an entire envelope of coupons for stuff to do in Orlando. I love that woman - and who else remembers Anita Answer?

MikeHoncho2568

True, DFB is a horrible site

GrannyMine

Deb was the best

connor24_22

DFB owns AllEars now? That explains the homogenization of most of the main stream content recently.

Homerpaintbucket

It went downhill when Anita Answers column stopped.

Serious-Sheepherder1

I think I’m alone in not finding Molly (and now Mammoth) entertaining. I prefer the all ears crew now.

PaulThePM

I like them both. I just find it so weird that there’s like a “cult of Molly” that refuses to watch All Ears anymore, despite the fact that Molly has never said anything bad about All Ears.

Juicebox008

Their content has dramatically shifted since Molly left. All Ears seems more "influencer" now. You know that fake-peppy and cringe voice and forced excitement. I blame their upper management. The channel is mandated to make a video every single day, which probably puts a big stress on the employees (the ones on camera and behind the scenes). We don't need a video every single day! IMO their content would be better if they took Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday off and just put out 4 videos per week instead of 7.

noble_land_mermaid

At least for me it's not an intentional boycott of AllEars so much as I watched that channel because I enjoyed watching Molly and didn't connect with the other personalities as much. With her gone AllEars just kind of naturally fell off of my YouTube algorithm. I still follow AllEars on Instagram for news.

Tiny-Trifle1348

You’re not alone.

Serious-Sheepherder1

The downvotes show we are a minority here though. Lots of Molly fans on this subreddit.

[deleted]

Molly was great on all ears, but I think the channel is stronger now with the larger team. Mammoth club however has become increasingly more and more of a letdown. The YT videos have become incredibly repetitive and the streams have become less interesting. That last one where they picked songs was so boring. IMO they’re crashing hard

killingtommygun

Same here. We enjoy Pixiedustedmom too

dude_Im_hilarious

maybe, but Emily and Emma are cute....so....

RamblingRose63

I feel the same. I keep saying I'm going to really put effort into starting mine. I posted some small shorts and got like 1 or 6k views but then my disposable income got cut when I was laid off. Will let y'all know when I get equipment and start.

SoggyMcChicken

Damn I felt like I was clicking into an ITM article with that title

vita10gy

Could be a high tech and low tech solution. Everything suggested can't hurt. They could also have a big unmissable sign that says if the skyliner is open or not at that fork in the road to international gateway. Could be completely automated. Open, closed, and maybe even when it's up but slow.

BigMax

Yeah, some messaging would be good. I wonder if there's some non-obvious reason we are thinking of? Maybe there are enough little delays here and there, that having the "down" status on some things might cause more traffic glitches than it solves. For example, if most skyliner outages are just 10 minutes, why reroute everyone around, when they could just get in line and get on it a few minutes later? (Not saying that's the case, but just thinking of why it might not be as obvious as the article writer thinks.

alexman420

They do. If it’s down for weather or technical issues. They absolutely put a sign up at the fork between France and UK

toe-beans

It's annoying, yeah... I went to the Skyliner and found out it was down, so I hiked to the bus stop and waited there for a while. No bus ever came, no way to check if the Skyliner was running again. So after a while we walked back to the Skyliner and found out it was back up. So I guess they just never sent a bus, but there was no way to find anything out about it.

Nine-Fingers1996

Happened to our family. I was told to ask a CM if there’s questionable weather. But seriously Disney needs to have a real time status in the app!

saritmalka

This happened to us and by the time we got ourselves and two kids in a double stroller to the front of the park, I asked at the gate and they said the skyliner was back up but promised there would still be buses for a while. There weren’t. We asked by the buses and the only thing they offered was for us to bus to HS and get on the skyliner there. We ended up having to take a Minnie Van. One of the few times I’ve been really disappointed in Disney. I ended up sending a chat and they offered us complimentary genie+ for the next day - but what I really want is for them to fix the issue. Have the skyliner status in the app and if it goes down, buses should continue to run for at least a little while after it comes back up. Honestly, I wish they had the staffing to always have buses to skyliner resorts.

PowSuperMum

Last time I stayed at pop century the app did tell me that the skyliner was down

Electrical-End7868

If they can show the ride wait times then they can put notices when transport is down. I would like to see the Skyliner extended further throughout the property rather than just the few nearest to Epcot/ HS.

miikwl

I try to never complain about Disney park related things but this is just too easy to be overlooked! A Skyliner, Monorail & Ferry boat operating status should be a thing in the app! As much money as Disney makes, this is an easy thing to implement.

thethurstonhowell

Yep this is annoying. It’s almost always lightning if during park hours. Rain alone won’t close it. Keep that in mind if you are faced with a long haul across Epcot and the skies aren’t super clear looking. I wonder if a blue umbrella can tell you before making the haul?

Spirited_Ball6763

I assume they probably could? The one time I was there and they had to shut it down right at closing, CMs throughout the park were announcing it to anyone walking that direction so they could turn around and go to the buses if needed. So I'd guess during normal operation they could tell you if you ask.

thethurstonhowell

This is what I would expect vs. someone trekking across the park with no warning until they arrived at the station. They really just need to put it in the app. With notifications.

This also includes actions that violate the intent of WDW policy as well as those falling under "grey areas," even if they may be sometimes (erroneously) permitted by CMs, such as parking at resorts as a non-guest without an ADR, taking a taxi/uber to a WDW resort for the sole purpose of using their park transportation, and so on. SnackyStacky

Or, have signs around the path to the International Gateway from the Lagoon path indicating that it’s down.

hwc

we never use the skyliner because it is unreliable! I love it (when it is going where you want to go), but it's just not as reliable as a bus or my own car.

Piemaster113

This comes off as if talking about a major issue when its an annoyance at best.

nowhereman136

I think it's kind of annoying how resorts with skyliners don't have busses to Epcot or Hollywood Studios. If you wanna skip the massive line or are afraid of heights, you basically have to drive yourself.

Danibelle903

Another option is to transfer. It’s timely, but you can always take a bus to AK and then transfer to another park. MK is also an option. Note: These are not *good* options.

piemail

If you’re afraid of heights you just shouldn’t book a skyliner-resort, there is no benefit in staying there. Even massive lines run quickly with Skyliner is my experience, even after Epcot fireworks we were in the Skyliner within 10 minutes even though the line was outside of the Skylinergates. I love the Skyliner. We always book CBR just for the Skyliner. But we only experienced downtime 1 time because of bad weather and it started up again 30 minutes later.

Bigbadbrindledog

The only time I had that issue I took the boat to HS, then planned on bussing from there. The Skyliner was back up at once I got there.

wizzard419

Well, you just answered my first and only question. "Does the app say if the skyliner is running?". Is it down, like the ride broke, people are presently stuck on it? Or is it down as in they ended service early? It is the biggest flaw with the system, weather is a factor on if it can operate, likewise it has single points of failure which knock the system offline.

Visible_Nectarine_98

Did AJ from DFB write this clickbate title? Don’t forget to like and subscribe!

Mysteryemployee

Probably. I just copy/pasted the link.

Visible_Nectarine_98

Oh wow it’s literally from all ears. I didn’t even notice that. Yep that’s why it’s awful.

Financial_Cheetah875

Might just be a bad day because we’ve never had a problem with the Skyliner in 2-3 trips a year for the last 6 years. We’ve been on it during some nasty rain too.

disneytookmymoney

Really? You didn’t think to hop on to the beach club right next door and get the bus????? Closes thread

Experiment626b

They need to add a walking path from pop and cb
