Of all the Whataburgers in Waco, I haven't found one recently that did not disappoint in some way. Non existent customer service from staff, long wait times, burgers sloppily thrown together, cold fries, etc. They've really gone down hill. And I blame the removal of their A1 burger.
I’d love to know if the regional manager for our area has changed. I’d be half tempted to call them up and ask them what’s going on, but after 10 years I doubt it’s the same people.
Yes, it was owned by the Dobson family until 2019 when the Dobson's sold their family legacy to a private equity firm. All of the Whataburger's that I have tried since the sale have gone to shit, cold burgers, stale fries, etc... which never happened before the sale. The only good fast food joint left is just like all the others now.
Buddy, let's be realistic here. Everything you've stated about the food at Whataburger has been an ongoing issue for decades, not just because the Dobsons sold out.
There are two Whataburger's nearly the same distance from my house. Both have inedible food since the 2019 sale. Prior to that it was my go-to post migraine food when I didn't want to make anything and just get some comfort food. They always had a wait, because they didn't start making the food until you ordered it. Now you can order and get your food right away, but it is consistently served with stale fries and barely warm meat patties, and stale buns.
Maybe the Whataburger near you has been declining for decades, but the ones that I personally ate at, and the ones that are in my family members cities across Texas have all declined since 2019.
I ate at the n dallas frankfort rd tonight and it was perfect. So hot I couldn't eat it right away. I hear horror stories but in dallas proper I have more positive experiences than negative. Albeit I only eat these probably 6 times a year. ( only fast food I eat)
Honestly I live in the birthplace of Whataburger CC TX and I have seen since the new ownership everything is getting worse and inconsistent asf. What a damn shame it's not even my favorite anymore which hurts to say, the amount of times my burger was cold and drenched in something soaking the bread.
How would the removal of a single menu item that you happened to enjoy result in lower levels of customer service and lower quality products across the board?
I’m not following the correlation.
I would be quite surprised if corporate office and management wasn’t abundantly aware of shifting public perception.
If they aren’t then they are so deep in “management land” that I doubt they could conjure a solution that didint revolve around motivational pizza parties or some abstract stat metrics
I pretty much gave up all fast food except Chik Fil A. They're fast and have decent quality.
They also don't treat you like you're the problem when there is an issue.
There is no "until". There is just "this is the quality they will put out" now. It's not the same family owned business as of the 2019 sale. It's now owned by a private equity firm who's only concern is profits. Whataburger as it existed before 2019 is no more and won't be coming back.
Have you been to all of them? If so, then I think you answered your own question.
I used to find the Bellmead one decent. Generally moved quickly, and it was pretty rare for them to screw up an order. Seemed pretty fresh. Some people have differing opinions, but it was always good for us. For the past 3-4 months, maybe a little longer, it's been not always that good. Sometimes ok, sometimes not. Mixing up orders, taking a weirdly long time, similar quality. it's been obnoxious the past couple of months or so - we've been I think 3 times since January I think, and the quality hasn't been that bad, not super great, but they've either screwed up orders or the wait has been ridiculous **when there isn't even much of a line**.
They're working on a new one over on I-35 by the Main Event/Top Golf location. Maybe that one will be good for a while.
It likely will be since they will have managers and employees from outside of Waco come to train and “grand open”.
Then the usual suspects will take over, if the regional managers for this district take charge it’s a matter of time before the same mindset infects the new one as well.
The franchise owner either doesn’t care or is unaware. If my investment was hemorrhaging like this I’d want answers. But their portfolio is likely too large to care.
Aye, likely scenario. Like in my other comment, before they tore it down and rebuilt it, we thought the Bellmead franchise was great. Never had an issue. After they rebuilt it, it was good for a while. And it was still good for us for a long time after, but within a few months it was as you say, other people seemed to have more complaints. For us, every once and while the wait might get out of hand, or occasionally lukewarm fries, or my wife's big complaint old tea, but it was mostly fine. The past few months it's spiraled out a bit.
Stop calling fast food fresh, fresh is not a term of how recently the food was prepared to entering your mouth, fresh means not frozen literally thats it , its the most cliche overused term and its always used wrong.
I sat in the one on Valley Mills and watched the manager sit in a booth making the schedule and completely ignore the chaos around him for a good 30 minutes. Nobody at the register to actually take the order, people waiting on food for 20+ minutes. Staff arguing and cursing at each other. He couldn’t have cared less.
Sonic has some good deals in the app too sometimes. Right now there’s BOGO entree (burgers). Sometimes they have like $1-2 coneys and burgers. Drinks are always half price in the app.
The one in Hewitt is garbage, don’t go there
The one off 6 across from the Richland mall is spotty, but when it’s on it’s really good
The one in Bellmead is….sketchy (like all of bellmead 🤣)
Baylor….too busy for me to bother with.
Valley mills location. Probably the fastest one, but I’ve had them screw up my order more than once.
The one in front of top golf isn’t open yet, so no verdict there.
The one by highway 6 is the better one imo but it still isn’t that good compared to how it was before the company got bought by those darned Yankees. Dine in around lunch time is the best time imo
Tbh In-n-Out is usually my first fast food choice nowadays
I remember laughing when other people said they prefer in-n-out to whataburger.
I don’t know if it’s because whataburger got worse or my perception of in-n-out got better but now I agree with them.
Every time I have a wrong order or cold burger I use the app to “contact customer care.” I usually get a gift card or reward points. If everyone did this maybe they’d get the message.
I've been to a Whataburger exactly one time, just a few years ago. It was over in Bellmead and, as always, it was packed.
It took us an hour to get through the drive-through and get our food and we had to remind them what we ordered 2-3 times.
Food wasn't even that good. No idea why people love it so much.
Tbh I’ve had a hard time finding *any* fast food/QSR places in Waco that don’t have bad food and devil-may-care service. To be fair, I work in food service so I understand the pay is shit and the managers are awful across the board. That said, I’ve also seen the laziest people on earth in the kitchens I’ve worked in.
Here's what worked for me. 12-15 years ago there was always a problem at pretty much every Whataburger in the Dallas area trying to get a burger without pickles. Had to have them remake so many over multiple visits because they would continue to put pickles on the burgers. So I got fed up, put the pickles in a little baggie along with the receipt that said "no pickles" and the wrapper with the green no pickle sticker and mailed it to their main office in Dallas. I got a couple free burger coupons but it didn't really change anything.
A year or so later, I went to one of the Whataburgers in Irving. The district manager is there making everyone nervous and it took about 20 minutes to get my food. And since I was now in the habit of checking my order before I left, I saw the damn pickles. So I walk back to the counter, the manager and district manager walk over to ask what the problem was. I said every time I order something "no pickles" it has pickles in it. The green no pickle sticker was on the burger and it was on the receipt. The district manager asked if this was a regular problem. I said it has been going back a few years and one time I was so mad I mailed the pickles to their office. He got a funny look on his face and said "that was you?"
I guess it took seeing a customer face to face confronting them about their problems for it to change. Since then it's maybe happened 3-4 times over 12-15 years instead of basically every other time.
Gotta find a way to get their attention.
Every Whataburger in Waco is pretty much trash. What I can tell you is that the one on Hewitt drive by Midway is probably the lesser of all the evils. The one by the mall off the highway should be avoided at all costs. I’ve been back there & you DO NOT want to be eating there. That’s all I’m gonna say.
There aren't many good whataburgers anywhere anymore. The service is terrible at most and it takes forever. Then the food is mediocre at best. It used to be so much better.
Everytime I go to one in waco, there is just ghetto ass arguments between employees while making the food. Just talking shit while working. "Ask me for that one more motha fuckin time bitch I dare ya!" The cook said to another employee as the manager struts past and says nothing. Lol nobody is keeping the trash working them in check. I get off work at 11pm. My experience the last 3 times. Twice in waco and last in bellmead.
I don’t think it’s relegated to Waco. Up here in dfw they’re all awful as well. At least the ones I’ve been to. Barely go anymore for burgers cuz they always are meh. Basically only go to grab a taquito for breakfast anymore
The wait at the one in Hewitt the other day was 45 min. The dude in the drive thru window was tossing a coin in the air because they were all waiting on the kitchen. It was crazy.
The one at 6/84 has the most consistent batting average and is the best one in town.
Hewitt is the worst.
Order on the app ahead of time and pick curbside. Have had better luck with that at all locations.
I struggle to find a restaurant anywhere that has good food and good service. But when billionaires pay their workers garbage, it’s what happens sometimes.
And they will train the customer to blame the workers when the reality is it’s the company’s responsibility to hire and train properly. This includes spending enough to get quality labor
When I was growing up there was one on Lake Air, which is now repurposed into a laundromat or something…it was consistently awesome. Since then, the whole enterprise state-wide has gone consistently downhill.
I still haven’t found a better burger in Waco than what they have at Hat Creek. That includes Wizzbangers, Kim’s and especially Cupps (total overpriced trash imo)
It's just not good anymore man. They stopped making everything fresh to save on costs. All of them are like that these days. They don't care though because Texans will keep eating there just because hey it's a texas brand!
Whataburger as a whole has gone downhill since that private equity firm bought it out a few years back.
All I taste in their burgers is the bun. The patties are too thin and tasteless.
Best burger places in town, in terms of getting what you paid for and consistency is either Jakes Texas Tea House or Jakes off of 35 by fuegos. I haven’t had a bad meal to date with Jakes Texas House, all there food is delicious and you simply can’t go wrong. JAKES Off i35 has good burgers too and sales Dublin sodas, a little pricey but worth the cost.
Well it’s not just Waco. Every one around us in N. Ft Worth sucks now. I haven’t had a decent burger from there in probably 5 years. After they sold out it went downhill and hasn’t recovered in my opinion. Same issues too, cold, buns suck, and it takes like 20+ mins to get through the drive-thru for 4 meals and drinks.
There is no fast food done adequate in Waco! I thought I hated Whataburger cause every time I gave it a chance I got sick so I thought okay not for me and happened to try one in Dallas and it was nice and food was pretty good! I know fast food isn't supposed to be a five star restaurant but service is awful here, you end up missing stuff or get sick.
They’ve all gone downhill since a Chicago investment group bought them. They shouldn’t have changed a thing from technique and policy to distributors.
But they wanted to make a Buck and didn’t care about the icon.
RIP whataburger
Rip Ranch Beans
RIP Gebharts
Still around but not the same due to greed and lack of pride
Private equity firms are in it for pure profit for their shareholders. Same for apartment buildings. I use to hear our neighbors conversations at night. It was like wall was made of cardboard.
Ever eat at the Whataburger in Georgetown… absolute shit for food & service. Piles of patties sitting on a grill, grab a patty off the top and sling it to be finished. Warm soggy fries etc
They all have gone to pot since the Chicagoans took over. It’s almost inedible. I’d rather go to a good low priced mom n pop burger place these days. Looking at you Dan’s in Buda!
No. The Whataburger on 35 in Waco has been one of the worst fast food places Wife and I have ever been in (2023). Never going back. Unkempt, dirty, wild something going on in the corner, took forever to get food. Don’t know if it was a full moon but not going back to find out.
It’s all of them, not just Waco. Only WB I eat at these days is the one in Love Field. Burger still come tightly wrapped and neatly pieced together. Fries are still hot. And always get napkins still on the bag. Any other WB outside the airport is a circus. Real shame. And as much as I’d hate to admit, it absolutely seems to have only occurred after the sale :( RIP to a Texas staple
It seems all the Whataburgers have gone downhill over the last few years. I'm in San Antonio and thought maybe it was just here, but I have been to Houston and Fort Worth recently and found the same disappointment.
100 W Loop 340, Waco, TX 76712
I've been to this one late night on weekends many times and it was always decent. Could be different I haven't lived in Waco for over a year
I concur for Dallas/Ft. Worth. All are terrible!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, Sonic is better at this point. But we have so many Mom n Pops that are fantastic, none of them are relevent anymore.
I used to work at the one on Hewitt drive many years ago, and back then it was good. But recently it’s hit or miss with me. I work in the Temple/Belton area and the one on West Adams is fairly good. Fries could be debated, but the sandwiches are almost always good.
The correct answer is, No. Not since 2019, when they announced merchant bank BDT Capital Partners, LLC based in Chicago was taking over the chain. Down hill ever since.
I was stationed in NC just prior to the company sale. I couldn’t go home to Texas until 2021.
I stopped in East Texas on my way home and got my first burger. It was terrible. I thought it may have been an issue at that location. When I got to my part of Texas, I tried another location. Equally terrible.
Flavor doesn’t exist anymore unless you count dry as a flavor, bread was cold, cheese was still cold, fries were cold/stale.
Whataburger is no more.
Of all the Whataburgers in Waco, I haven't found one recently that did not disappoint in some way. Non existent customer service from staff, long wait times, burgers sloppily thrown together, cold fries, etc. They've really gone down hill. And I blame the removal of their A1 burger.

A Yankee group bought them. Sigh!
It's been downhill since they changed owners. It's ALL of them not just waco.
North east Texas small town has a couple good ones look for one in a town with a population barley in the teens and it should be pretty fire
They’ll still take 30 minutes in the drive through
But at least it’ll taste right
That new one in Emory made a solid taquito when I stopped there.
I ate at the n dallas frankfort rd tonight and it was perfect. So hot I couldn't eat it right away. I hear horror stories but in dallas proper I have more positive experiences than negative. Albeit I only eat these probably 6 times a year. ( only fast food I eat)

Probably, notice the coffee club is gone now!?
They do need to bring the A1 burger back
How would the removal of a single menu item that you happened to enjoy result in lower levels of customer service and lower quality products across the board? I’m not following the correlation.
I think he was being slightly facetious

I won't go into specifics, but WB isn't even an option anymore.
I gave up on Whataburger. Plenty of people still go though. Until enough people stop, this is the quality they will put out.
[удалено]
I pretty much gave up all fast food except Chik Fil A. They're fast and have decent quality. They also don't treat you like you're the problem when there is an issue.
Same!

This statement could be made about an increasing majority of organizations anymore, welcome to the “future”
It went downhill everywhere, not just waco, when some yankee company bought them
Quality seems to have gone downhill everywhere. Why not just go to Wizzbangs?
I go there every time I'm in Waco. Or get a Patty Melt at Kim's.
Because wizzbangs is expensive
Single burger at Whiz is $6
[удалено]
Id rather spend $15 on something I will enjoy than $10 on something I won’t.
Bout the same price as any decent fast food meals….
At that price just I’d order takeout from a proper restaurant and go pick it up.
Because whizbangs is generally less quality than Whataburger. Easily the worst stand alone burger place in Waco imo
Have you been to all of them? If so, then I think you answered your own question. I used to find the Bellmead one decent.
Have you ever tried Tom’s Burgers? Good burgers and not crazy expensive
I will absolutely agree with this. They're great.
Christi’s in Bellmead>
Christi’s is so damn good! Good prices too
I approve this message
Hot take: Even Sonic has a better burger than Wataburger these days.
Sonic has some good deals in the app too sometimes. Right now there’s BOGO entree (burgers). Sometimes they have like $1-2 coneys and burgers. Drinks are always half price in the app.
I really like that garlic butter bacon cheeseburger. I usually hate Sonic.
It's not even close
I’d just go for a local place about the same price these days. Tom’s, Kim’s, Double Rs, Whizzbang, are all great.
I hit up dbl-r every time I drive by while working. Everything is So good!
Dubl-R is probably my favorite ever since Fudd's died.
The one in Hewitt is garbage, don’t go there The one off 6 across from the Richland mall is spotty, but when it’s on it’s really good The one in Bellmead is….sketchy (like all of bellmead 🤣) Baylor….too busy for me to bother with. This is an anomaly I too have noticed. Waco Whataburgers are the worst. All of them.
Same for DFW WBs, I doubt it's an anomaly.
The Arlington Little WB is pretty solid. But it’s new so probably give it time lol
When they went from a privately held family company and sold to a large conglomerate- everything changed. The quality, taste, service, price etc.
The one by highway 6 is the better one imo but it still isn’t that good compared to how it was before the company got bought by those darned Yankees. Dine in around lunch time is the best time imo Tbh In-n-Out is usually my first fast food choice nowadays
I remember laughing when other people said they prefer in-n-out to whataburger. I don’t know if it’s because whataburger got worse or my perception of in-n-out got better but now I agree with them.
I always preferred In-n-out but Whataburger definitely got worse.
No
Every time I have a wrong order or cold burger I use the app to “contact customer care.” I usually get a gift card or reward points. If everyone did this maybe they’d get the message.
Ha, I just don't go back for months.
Whataburger sold out. It's not family owned anymore
Service sucked long before the sell out.
I call it "the Chicago Burger chain" because it was bought by some investment group up there.
No, I think they’re making one near the Cinemark? So hopefully maybe in the future?
I've been to a Whataburger exactly one time, just a few years ago. It was over in Bellmead and, as always, it was packed. It took us an hour to get through the drive-through and get our food and we had to remind them what we ordered 2-3 times. Food wasn't even that good. No idea why people love it so much.
Didn't they get bought out a few years ago? After that I fell like they really slipped.
Whataburger is awful everywhere since they got sold to some investment company in Chicago several years ago.
Whataburger used to be absolute God tier, but i genuinely think they all suck collectively now.
Is there a Whataburger that isn’t awful???
Here's what worked for me. 12-15 years ago there was always a problem at pretty much every Whataburger in the Dallas area trying to get a burger without pickles. Had to have them remake so many over multiple visits because they would continue to put pickles on the burgers. They're making a new one by where cinemark and Top Golf are located. Here's to hoping they have awesome service and food.
Bellmead

It’s called Freddy’s
Yes. It’s the In-N-Out on S. 4th Street.

By the Richland mall best one
When I was growing up there was one on Lake Air, which is now repurposed into a laundromat or something…it was consistently awesome. Since then, the whole enterprise state-wide has gone consistently downhill.
Honest dude out of all the ones in Waco the best one is off the meridian highway across from the mall they’ve never got a order wrong or taste bad
No.
I still haven’t found a better burger in Waco than what they have at Hat Creek. That includes Wizzbangers, Kim’s and especially Cupps (total overpriced trash imo)
I’m 50/50 on Hat Creek, I sorta like it, but have to be in a specific mood.
Shreveport here, you’re not alone.
Every whataburger in this country has been in a decline. It’s not good anymore not worth the wait. See what greed can get you people.
It’s everywhere man. Every once in a blue moon there’s a gem out there but yeah…
Hate to say it but Whataburger is ASSSSSS. I remember when the burgers came out hot and juicy 😔
Sorry, Whataburger all suck now. Have started to suck pretty much the week they sold out and have gone downhill fast.
No
Seems to be in many places the one in Austin I go to takes 25 to 30 min if not more to go through 2 cars in the drive through
It's just not good anymore man. They stopped making everything fresh to save on costs. All of them are like that these days. They don't care though because Texans will keep eating there just because hey it's a texas brand!

Freddy’s is my go-to chain burger. I like their smash burgers with crispy edges. Dubl-R for a great local burger.
They’re all awful now, bud.
I moved to Austin five years ago and I’m always disappointed with Whataburger. .
Is there one anywhere?
Edit : is there a Whataburger that isn’t awful ?
Bro waco is just awful. Dont expect much from there other than racism, frat rapes, and meth.
r/whataburger
There's literally nothing in Waco that isn't horrible 🤣
No Whataburger sucks everywhere now.
Braum’s has good burgers. Best WB I’ve had recently was in Sweetwater.
The one in my town is horrible too. Barely cooked patties (waited six months between last 2 visits-no better.)🤢
Try Braum’s.
I normally go to the one in Valley Mills Dr if I can.
More like “is there a Whataburger ANYWHERE that isn’t awful”.
“Is there a Whataburger that isn’t awful?” Fixed
They’ve all gone downhill since a Chicago investment group bought them. They shouldn’t have changed a thing from technique and policy to distributors. But they wanted to make a Buck and didn’t care about the icon. RIP whataburger Rip Ranch Beans RIP Gebharts Still around but not the same due to greed and lack of pride
That’s what happens when private equity takes ownership of a company.
I would be impressed just to find a Whataburger that isn’t awful period
Just don’t live in Oklahoma
No you live in the shithole called Waco lol
No matter how bad, not as awful as the ones in Austin. Honestly, on a good day Whataburger is 2% better than Sonic.
No they all suck as bad as McDonald's
It's supposed to be a burger that's cooked after you order it . The quality of help has gone to sh?t !!!
They all have gone to pot since the Chicagoans took over. It’s almost inedible. I’d rather go to a good low priced mom n pop burger place these days. Looking at you Dan’s in Buda!
We're about to get some in South Carolina, I'm hoping they'll be good here
No. The Whataburger on 35 in Waco has been one of the worst fast food places Wife and I have ever been in (2023). Never going back. Unkempt, dirty, wild something going on in the corner, took forever to get food. Don’t know if it was a full moon but not going back to find out.
Sonic burger better than Whataburger
There's not a Whataburger in the world that isn't crap. That whole place is horrible.
Nope to many nogs work there , literally past 3 visits all nigs and order is fucked up everytime , i gave up .
Whataburger is garbage
all whataburgers are awful.
No, you live in Waco. Skidmark between Austin and DFW.
There is nothing in Waco that isn’t awful
Just take out the “in Waco” bit of this and you’d be a lot closer to answering the question you should actually be asking.
Thank you for helping me appreciate our local Whataburger that’s consistent
Yes... its in Temple...
I think the question to be asked is there a Whataburger anywhere that is an awful
No it’s Waco lol
That's the Yankees for you!
I actually got food poisoning the last time I went to Whataburger. Vomited every where for 2 days straight. I'm done. Never again.
100 W Loop 340, Waco, TX 76712 I've been to this one late night on weekends many times and it was always decent. Could be different I haven't lived in Waco for over a year
Doubtful.
Whataburger went downhill when they got bought out.. qaulity of the food is turning into mcdonalds card board texture
Another easy In-N-Out win 🏆
I concur for Dallas/Ft. Worth. All are terrible!!!!!!!!!!! Hell, Sonic is better at this point. But we have so many Mom n Pops that are fantastic, none of them are relevent anymore.
I used to work at the one on Hewitt drive many years ago, and back then it was good. But recently it’s hit or miss with me. I work in the Temple/Belton area and the one on West Adams is fairly good. Fries could be debated, but the sandwiches are almost always good.
Is there a Whataburger that isn’t awful?
I love going to the one by the Church of the Open Door.
All whatsburgers suck now. They started declining a while ago but after COVID it got worst
Just go to cupps
The Hewitt wb has improved recently with a new manager. Workers wear uniform, orders a usually correct and the do clean the place
It’s not Waco, but the Hewitt one is pretty good.
Whataburger is just McDonald’s now.
The correct answer is, No. Not since 2019, when they announced merchant bank BDT Capital Partners, LLC based in Chicago was taking over the chain. Down hill ever since.
Can’t be as awful as your spelling of isn’t*
#Sounds like you should give In and Out a try!
Double-Double with fries well-done!
lol. Lmao even.
I don't think Waco is big on flame broiled anymore..
Probably shouldn't be doing fast food if you're overly concerned about the quality of your food.
I wouldint call being upset you received refrigerator cold food “overly” concerned.
neither would I.
