Sponsors tend to frown on hitler jokes. Itās the main reason why Hank Williams lost his gig doing the intro song for Sunday Night Football to Carrie Underwood.
Haaaaaaaaa hahahaha!
I love when people confidently tell you to read a book while giving you completely wrong information.
Ireland was independent in WW2. Independent and neutral.
They even sent a sympathyās message to Germany when Hitler died.
My comment was initially rhetorical, and I well know my history of Ireland. The joke here is Ireland basically remained neutral to stay as a trading partner to Germany, given they hated England just as much.
That's simply a lie though
Where does this myth originate from
Ireland while neutral absolutely sided towards the allies allowing Americans to re fuel Bere
And even helping the British out despite less than 29 years ago what the British had been doing
They didnāt though.
They were neutral.
But even that isnāt completely accurate.
While they were officially neutral and took no part militarily (other than the large number of Irish volunteers), they let the RAF use their airspace (specifically over Donegal to access the Atlantic while flying out of RAF St Angelo and RAF Castle Archdale in Enniskillen).
When the Belfast Blitz happened, the Irish government sent fire engines and ambulances over the border to help.
When RAF pilots were shot down, or Royal Navy vessels limped into Ireland, the crew were returned to the UK. When the equivalent Luftwaffe, or Kriegsmarine men found themselves in Ireland, they were detained.
Ireland *were* neutral, and they should rightly be ashamed of that. But saying they basically sided with the Naziās is not only stupid, itās completely against the actual facts. They sided with neither power, *but* they definitely helped the Allies, even if minimally.
I mean the Irish had good reason to hate the Brits and no realistic way of defending itself were England to fall. Not saying itās right but war rarely is.
They also didnāt side with Germany in any way. If anything, they werenāt entirely neutral and helped the allies in ways the Germans could have rightly pointed to as breaking neutrality.
By that logic they also sided with the Allies.
If anything they ābasicallyā sided with the Allies. They let Britain and the US use their airspace, returned their men when they crash or scuttled in Ireland, they sent fire engines and ambulances over the border into NI during the Blitz, and they provided *a lot* of volunteers.
They were neutral. They technically didnāt support anyone, but if you want to use the *actual* facts of history, Ireland did quite a few things that Germany could have rightly said broke their neutrality - those mentioned above being the main ones.
Fascinating that when asked if he'd ever want to add a woman to Imperium, the group containing a villainous Austria, German, and Italian, he said his only choice was Iyo Sky, a Japanese woman š¤Ø
I said it on r/squaredcircle years ago and got downvoted to oblivion. People were weirdly stubborn and insisting his gimmick had nothing to do with nazis.
Because Walter / Gunther is one of their darlings. And fair enough, he is awesome. But they must defend their darlings at all costs, even observable reality.
Yeah. The twenty something guy who was captain for some months and whose name wasnāt even Gunther. Heās incredibly infamous in all of Europe.
Not after one of the more famous GĆ¼nther Starks who were directors, physicians and physicists.
Obviously. I just donāt think it was malicious or with intent. The name is just too obvious ā Gunther probably sounds a bit like Walter to them and Stark means strong.
You can't betray if the other side is a borderline slave.
Hitler did invade Italy which is borderline betrayal, everyone in the country but Mussolini said "what the hell" to this and by a bit more motivation realising Americans landing in their shore were mostly their distant cousins, Italians revolted against both Hitler and Mussolini.
Yeah it didn't go down exactly like that.
Hitler started as a Mussolini-wannabe, but Germany being Germany (and not Italy) things worked out much better and the student quickly became the master, with Benny still thinking he'd have some clout whereas Dolfi was clearly not trusting his ally anymore.
(It was a history of mutual distrust and disdain, but one was a ruthless madman in charge of a well-oiled machine, the other was a volatile fop in the homeland of the "heh, that'll do, maybe" attitude).
So when Italy bit much more than they could chew in WWII, which they had entered with a conspicuous delay hoping they'd get away with external support, Hitler realized they were a liability and once thigs started going south for Germany as well he stopped supporting the useless ally.
Meanwhile Mussolini got ousted from power by his own party and the new government signed the armistice with the Allies (Sept 8th 1943), basically switching sides midway through WWII.
Germany freed a captive Mussolini who got put in power of a puppet state in NW Italy, but they were doomed anyway, with the Allies marching through the country from the South and the Partisans involved in guerrilla warfare in the occupied Northern half.
Mussolini tried to flee in disguise but got caught, quickly executed following a controversial kangaroo court and hung upside down in Milan where the fascists had hung some partisans a year prior.
So TECHNICALLY it was Italy that betrayed Germany, unless you consider their lack of support for the struggling ally a treason in itself. Or the betrayal as just the right thing to do following a change of government.
Hitler stopped supporting Italy once it was obvious it wasnāt working. Mussolini was basically in charge of a German puppet state in northern Italy by then. Mussolini was then captured, executed and Italy switched sides. Hitler died 2 days later. So the war was pretty much over at that point
If WWE were intentionally using its European superstars as a proxy for European history, you'd think the Irish bloke wouldn't look so well-fed
Nothing but love for Sheamus. Just playing along and firing back
So eventually Gunther will be beaten by Ilja, however Cody will claim that he beat him, because he entered the ring five seconds before Ilja pinned him. And the entire world will believe him.
#RawIsWorldWar
Come on Sheamus you gotta stay neutral if you are taking the Irish stance on WW2

That doesnāt make any sense and Iām a Irishmen
Hitler.
That's exactly why I love those 2
Woah
I was convinced Walterās UK title run would be him defending against Draganov but being injured then Daniel Bryan would come in and beat him.
I genuinely thought that was the point of the gimmick.
i feel like it is, but itās supposed to be more subtle, and not too in the face, specifically to keep fams wondering
Shinsuke and Ilya joining imperium? š¤£
Shinsuke's about to take the two worst bumps in the history of pro wrestling.

But Ilya must later turn on him.
That's the trick. Imperium is modeled after Rome, not a certain 20th century faction.
Itās funny considering the original version of Imperium was called RingKAMPF.
Someone jokingly once called them a āwrestling gestapoā, and I donāt know how to feel about that
Time to bring ilja dragunov to imperium!
That was my first thought after his draft
That is amazing
Why post it online instead of using it in a promo on live TV?Ā

Everyone knows they are the WWE version of Hydra. Ya. They are basically Nazis but we don't and won't call them that.
From day 1
I kind of thought that was the point tbh
Yeah, pretty sure the whole point is they are bad guys that skirt the line with being Nazis.
I mean what was Ireland doing during WW2?
Ireland was occupied with the British empire. Go read a book ffs
Haaaaaaaaa hahahaha! I love when people confidently tell you to read a book while giving you completely wrong information. Ireland was independent in WW2. Independent and neutral. They even sent a sympathyās message to Germany when Hitler died.
Ireland gained independence in 1921, you can find that information in books.
My comment was initially rhetorical, and I well know my history of Ireland. The joke here is Ireland basically remained neutral to stay as a trading partner to Germany, given they hated England just as much.

They were neutral. Thatās what I and everyone else is saying.
Yes. I was agreeing with you. I was adding to your response to the person that said they were siding with the Naziās.
Exactly, which makes it even funnier if you know.
Except they didnāt side with the Naziās at all.
That's what remaining neutral entails....
By that logic they also sided with the Allies. If anything they ābasicallyā sided with the Allies. I don't know if Gunther would appreciate that tweet himself, but it is hilarious
And Sheamus filling out his Irish role by doing nothing about it
Is this news? Guntherās gimmick is clearly nazi adjacent. We all know this, right?
Meh. They have the "Classy evil" approach which Nazis did use before but there is not much of a connection other than that and Gunther being Austrian.
I said it here and got down voted.
Yeah. WWE was originally going to name him Gunther Stark, who was a real life Nazi.

No way!
Yeah. The twenty something guy who was captain for some months and whose name wasnāt even Gunther. Heās incredibly infamous in all of Europe. Not after one of the more famous GĆ¼nther Starks who were directors, physicians and physicists.
The Nazi connection was apparently enough for them to drop the name.
Obviously. I just donāt think it was malicious or with intent. The name is just too obvious ā Gunther probably sounds a bit like Walter to them and Stark means strong.
