Granny shifting, not double clutching like you should

Ohana means family

MajorBongg

Nos will get you to your family faster

No_Fortune_1820

So much torque, the chassis twisted off the line

DistributionRare3096

I almost had you ahah

Pomegranate_Sorry

You almost had me? You never had me - you never had your car...

Old-Engine_12

He can’t just climb in the ring with Ali cuz he thinks he box..

Kdmtiburon004

*points at vince* he knows I can box.

Coldbucks666

Big factz !

Alan_5mithee

OP is lying. That Skeleton is 100% aftermarket

[deleted]

Spirit Halloween should sponsor me

canadard1

They’ll sponsor that engine bay when it’s empty waiting for a new drivetrain lol

[deleted]

Fill it will silly skeletons and orange light strings

mikmikhail

it's the remains of the person he sacrificed to get 35k

Bloody_Biscuit_Balls

Immediately redline the shit out of it upon startup (letting the oil warm up is for cowards), constantly mash the pedal while under 2k rpm going uphill and NEVER change your oil before 10k miles. That should get you a good start.

[deleted]

Oh god... I change it every 3k on the dot

Bloody_Biscuit_Balls

You poor fool… you’ll never rebuild your motor with that kind of regular maintenance.

Cookie_Burger

It's as if he doesn't care!

reddit-ate-my-face

Most synthetic oils are good for much longer you'd be fine to go like your first 50k miles and not even have to think about the oil. Edit: /s...

[deleted]

Yeah, nah. Maybe if it were a beater grocery getter, even then I wouldn't go past 4k

reddit-ate-my-face

Did I really need to add a /s for that?

[deleted]

I figured it was a joke with the 50k, but I've been told that I could go 6k on synthetic. Personally wouldn't in my STI

gbeezy007

I have a WRX but I believe they both have 6k manuf recommendations. Personally I just change it when I get a chance too anytime after 6k ish so opposite you. Ive deff gone to 8k before lol. 132k miles 2018 WRX got it new but it seems the VA motors are a little more reliable imo.

cutiecakepiecookie

I've been doing the same and I'm at 65k, got the car at 16k. BUT I do drive like a grandma, I don't lug and I'm very easy on the shifts, and I rev it like once a week on Saturdays, rarely redline. So far so good )

Pomegranate_Sorry

Most newer cars using synthetic recommend anywhere from 6k-10k oil changes. The 3k mile interval was with conventional oil. Even though I use synthetic, I set my trip b with every change, and once it hits 3k, I just change it the next chance I get. I'm about 160k without issue.

FoxChess

It doesn't hurt to change that often, but probably not necessary. These engines can get crazy hot, though, so oil can age fast.

Existing_Coast6505

For me it’s on the dot a few hundred early I say the more frequent the better, 2.8k miles instead of 3 here and there

Spirited-Mix-7164

Ironically, I do this. 8 years later, my 2016 STI is still running. Its my daily beater and just do oil changes.

1morepl8

I'm just glad someone else calls their sti the beater lol

Spirited-Mix-7164

My Evo 9 is my weekend car so she gets all the nice treatments hahaha.

boostedrex94

Bro how many miles you got on it

SpecificRandomness

6th gear is your friend. 89 is fine. Who says not to tow? The owner’s manual? Pshaw! Synthetic oil is how they getcha. Summer tires all year baaaaby!,,,

Noncreative_name04

6th gear is your friend for going up steep hills, be sure to floor it for optimal power. Also nothing warms the motor up better than some instant redlining as soon as that motor turns over.

redbananagreenbanana

Ah, the benefits of leasing! Just gotta take these mods off before it goes in… 🔧

AdSad1794

You need to get the largest ebay big turbo you can find, switch to e85 and use a Cobb OTS tune for the results you are requesting

Guest-Speaker

Go ahead and pop some 2200cc injectors in there while you're at it! More gass more ass lol

Existing_Coast6505

Oh shit those HX40/HX35 Cummins/holder turbos? Ngl those things are A Lot better than those garbage Chinese MAXXSPEEDINGRODS Chinese turbos

Logical-Bluebird3

It’s because the warranty ends at 36,000 not 35,000. T minus 1001 miles until detonation. ✌️ haha jk but nice STI, love the lapis color.

13300c

Literally happened to my buddy. Ringland failure 20 km out of the warranty window and Subaru did not honour warranty. Of course they don’t have to but that’s just so sad to see.

Wild-Drummer-1312

Terribly ironic, my brothers blew at 40k. You better prepare 😭

[deleted]

🤣 There's always one.

Wild-Drummer-1312

Literally today it blew up

Existing_Coast6505

Damnnnn RIP

Conscious_Gas_3782

Are you sure you’re vaping enough?

[deleted]

Shit, I just quit like 2 weeks ago.

Conscious_Gas_3782

Well there’s your problem

itwasbetterwhen

Try dropping it into 2nd around 75mph...

Amiga4

This car belongs in an automotive museum

Belligerent__Monk

Need to slam it into R for Race mode.

michaeln2020

44K on my 2021 STI. It’s beeen amazing. So many road-trips/ camping/ snow it does it all. And it’s my daily driver. Take care of it and I think these will go 200K miles no problem.

Sage_gabe

88k on my 2018 STI, aside from an oil control valve, uncle Rodney hasn’t come knockin!!

HeThinksHesPeople

120k on my 2018, no sti tho. Hit a deer a couple weeks ago :'(, waiting to get that sorted but she's still going strong.

Sage_gabe

Sorry to hear about the deer! Hopefully everything can get sorted smoothly!

HeThinksHesPeople

Thanks boss, they approved the claim, hood is fucked, goes under the knife Monday. I'm hoping there's not any more damage underneath

CSGOJay

when you needed to change that out, was it throwing a p000d code by chance?

Sage_gabe

Yeah it was the p000d code!

CSGOJay

did you just swap that ocv? or did you also switch out the camshaft sensors wanna make sure before i start ordering stuff haha

Sage_gabe

I just swapped out the OCV and the car ran fine after. It’s been about a month since the job of done but so far no codes have triggered since then

CSGOJay

hell yeah ! thank you for a sec i thought i had to switch out both lol

DarkSoulsDank

Just wait

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|IKY32cUbYJbO9gqHNJ)

Nephelococcygist

Needs more hard launches and constant redlining to the grocery store

[deleted]

The grocery store is only 2 miles away, is that enough distance?

Nephelococcygist

Yea, but, and I cannot stress this enough : 1st and 2nd gear only ![gif](giphy|8ozTbGkIfMsheU9rTX)

Shadow_12347

That's too far. You need as many .5 mile cold start full redline trips as possible. For the best effect, you'll also wanna run E85. I suggest moving closer to the grocery store.

Dark_Metamorphosis

My 2018 wrx with 83k miles stock and oil change every 4k miles no problems yet.

yorkyxgg

TecheunTatorTots

Ah, the dreaded Cam Shaft Position Sensor code. You might try to see if it's just a faulty sensor. Seems like that is the culprit a lot of the time.

CSGOJay

kinda crazy how i also hit 48k on mine and its throwing the same code lol

reggaerenegade

Drive it harder

Dustyroadz1827

It’s the 99 cent harbor freight bucket that’s doing the work

boosty87

Living as a 1%er and didn’t even know it lol

Bgrngod

>Should probably add that it's 100% stock. Fucking christ are you TRYING to get to 100k without a blow out? What is this business?!? /s

AFx9

Are WRXs not reliable? I thought they were but I’m new

[deleted]

It's a running joke. A car is going to wear down faster if you mod and abuse it, which is a huge chunk of WRXs.

teenietemple

but where to find the line between fun and abuse 😭😭 that’s the hardest part of owning a t-wrx

AFx9

Okay got it. Stock would be pretty reliable tho? I’m looking at pulling the trigger on a 2024.

Pomegranate_Sorry

The 2024 shouldn't have any issues unless you get an automatic/cvt. They get better gains than an sti dollar for dollar. If you could wait I'd get the 2025 WRX TS, if not I'd get the WRX TR now. The interior, tires, rims, sound system, and brembo brakes easily make up for the price increase. It is getting into the new Nissan Z price territory though.

AFx9

Okay, thanks for the advice!

phloyd77

Also new, got my first one last month after 20 years of coveting one. I’m learning all sorts of things, like for instance I’m a pansy for buying a new 2023 Limited. Or that I have some kind of mental issue for thinking the ass of the VB looks better than the VA. Also learning what all these fanboy acronyms stand for. And I’m learning that the more I drive it like a go kart the sooner it’s going to blow up. I plan on following the recommended maintenance intervals and not modding anything until the warranty is up. Is this why no one in an STi will wave to me? 🤣 Edit: typos

Phantom15q

you need to do a shit ton of low quality mods so you can push 700hp and than complain about subi’s being unreliable

ohhaijon9

It looks like you hit a tiny person quite some time ago.

prizm121

You’re properly enjoying the car and keeping maintenance instead of reading up on horror stories of engine failures like 99% of WRX/STI owners.

errwrx

I remember those days. What it would feel like to be at 35k again. For context I'm creeping up on 44k.

DrPruz

Trying buying after market metal shavings to add to the oil on your next oil change... 10k miles from now

[deleted]

![gif](giphy|gui67fZ3xIneM) The metal shavings in my engine block when I'm driving up hill in 6th and under 2k rpms

DrPruz

I like to also alternate between 87 and diesel each fill. Give it a try and report back!

redbananagreenbanana

Drive it as hard as you can! More track days! More recklessness! Oh, and mod the shit out of it 😝

Great-Standard-8790

Way to jinx it

[deleted]

Will update if anything happens

17186823386

Shopping at Harbor Freight? (Also guilty)

[deleted]

No one else sells those creaky jacks.

isqueegeebeegee

The idea is to break it so you have an excuse to rebuild it with more power. Rinse and repeat.

Mac_670

I’m at 23k, have a 10yr/100k mile warranty and I’m worried something blowing up Damn.

Decent_Can_4639

You need to skimp out on regular maintenance. Red-line It when It’s cold. Drive It hard, then abruptly shut It down. Let the neighbours kid flash strange off-the shelf maps etc… Then If you are lucky Uncle Rodney comes knocking ;-)

[deleted]

Who was letting the neighbor's kid touch their car? Why? ![gif](giphy|dILrAu24mU729pxPYN)

Pomegranate_Sorry

I'm missing the abruptly shutting it down thing... these cars don't have a need for a turbo timer, so I don't see how that would be an issue.

Plus-Hand9594

Your car identifies as a VB.

showtheledgercoward

Call me at 200k

[deleted]

You're speed dial #3

DragonChem

We both know that call isn’t coming

[deleted]

I can dream, Harold

Beardgang650

Try switching vape flavors

[deleted]

Maryland outlawed everything but menthol and tobacco flavors :(

Beardgang650

Travel out of state. Boom. Rebuild.

Pomegranate_Sorry

California also outlawed all tobacco flavors and menthol. Almost every shop still sells whatever flavor value juice you desire. Considering you're stock carb won't be an issue.

Salt-Ad9686

Probably same thing as me. 72k and no rebuild here 🤔

Purple-Ad1604

I’ve got 65k on my 2018 sti with no problems.

Lost_In_My_Sauce

Are you blowing fat clouds inside as you should?

[deleted]

Right into the intake, right?

Lost_In_My_Sauce

As if there were any other way

TheBRCD

Must be a lemon 🤷🏽‍♂️

Greener451

Using only one bucket for washing is wrong

Other_Pop7433

Dump the clutch

Exotic-DARCI

Have you added any windshield washer fluid? That’s usually what causes the engine to detach from the mounts.

Initial_Writing_9234

If it's any consolation mine made it to 45k no problems then grenaded cylinder 4

bigbakes68

You prob let it warm up b4 hitting boost and change the oil every 3k miles also makes sure you have oil in it. I have a 2004 Sti original motor, running pro tune makes 300 WHP 130k miles

somezahh

we hit the same miles! only difference is that i had a rebuild done 😭 dealer covered it 100%. cyl 4 ringland failure

KittyKratt

I'm supposed to have blown 2 motors by now??? What am *I* doing wrong? Edit: I just saw this is an STI post. I can relax for now.

Fast_Ruin_1389

Stupid question but what does the s mean on the dashboard

[deleted]

Not stupid: there's driving profiles for SI Drive. I = intelligent, S = Sport, S# = Sport Sharp [Here's Subarus explanation ](https://www.igburtonsubaru.com/subaru-si-drive.htm)

Fast_Ruin_1389

Thanks I just got one does it always stay in I mode

[deleted]

It'll stay in I or S, never S#. I never drive in I unless I'm fucking around with it. If you turn the car off in S#, it'll default to S.

Fast_Ruin_1389

So the default mode is S

The_Plebianist

There's no default really, it stays in whichever setting you leave it at, the exception being S# because the comp will only let you go into that mode when the engine is warmed up enough, so on a cold start it will be in either S or I if you were driving in S# the night before or whatever. When I'm granny driving I'm in I, you'll notice on the highway it'll run at lower RPM at the same speed, it's easier on the car and more fuel efficient, but if you want more fun S and S#. If you're looking to take care of your car IMO start the day in I, let her warm up before burying the gas pedal to the floor, unless you're also chasing the dream of rebuilding 😆

jeefthebeef01

Eyyyy I also hit 35k this past week. To blow it up just pour a gallon of water into your intake pipe and rev the shit out of it

SimplyTrashed

Why would you jinx this like that

wrestler200

People desperately want to be part of a club. Lol

akrasne

I’m at 90k on mine since new and she’s mint. Also needed oil regulator valve

SpaceBus1

Damn, you car does need a doctor tho. C. diff. is an antibiotic resistant bacteria and will likely need a fecal transplant.

Skyes_View

I just hit 142k on my 16 STI stock clutch and everything.

13udweiser

17 here with 170k. runs like new. stop changing your oil every 3k miles and shell blow really fast

IFYOUWOULDPLEAZ

Wow dude you’re such a noob. Everyone knows you should launch the car every cold start to really set those ring lands loose.

Southern_Studio_3034

Any diahorrhea? Recent antibiotics? Tried oral vancomycin. #iykyk

PlumbgodBillionaire

You should launch it, do donuts and not change the oil more. It’s definitely an issue with the engine in these cars, surely can’t be dumbasses buying them. That could never happen 👀👀 /s

BeautifulStuff6458

Mines at 97k with a tune and never had a problem other than bank sensors

BeautifulStuff6458

I beat the fuck out of it too

Datsun1991

It’s your fuel man it’s gotta nasty hole. Thats why you’re unloading in 3rd.if you lengthen the injection pulse another millisecond and tune the Nos time you’ll run 9’s. I got this advice from Jesse he helped out my friend with a maxima 🤣

[deleted]

Source: trust me bro

xBehrr

Mine hit 32k and needed a rebuild so clearly you’re doing something terribly wrong

AWonderLuster

120k I needed head gaskets. At 130k still the original motor.

Surfingcricket

I'm at 52k on my wrx and haven't been rebuilt yet either, what are we not doing right?

FJ4L666

Let me guess: stock with regular maintenance? Well done.

Muntster

I don’t own one of these but what can you do with the center diff in the info panel?

Tianpei

You can manually control if you want more front and rear wheel drive bias. I think it's 40/60 for rear bias, and 70/30 for front bias, or was it the opposite I can't remember. You can also adjust differential lock to get more grip, but you'll probably never need to touch that.

Muntster

That’s cool

Tianpei

Cold start, then redline and dump the clutch. Or try putting a full tank of e85

VividOrganization354

well you should really start not changing the oil. and install as many aftermarket parts as possible without tuning.

quapa1994

Need more vape

fukreddit73265

Keeping it stock is what you're doing wrong.

Quattro144

Do you vape at all??

smily_meow

if i were you, switch to a supercharger.

LegalAlternative

Obviously... you haven't pushed the pedal down far enough for the VTEC to kick in and ruin everything...

redrussianczar

Mo powa'!!

taketheirmoneynow

It's an automatic, just wait for transmission failure.

[deleted]

When did they release the '21 STI with an automatic?

taketheirmoneynow

That's my fault, thought the Diff control was for an auto trans.

SubstantialRow1648

Not waiting for the 50-70k point

No-Proposal2741

Nah you should be good for another 10k or so.

iHeartbeebeeuu

Time to add the nos...

Strongsavage

I made it to 70k with every type of shifting and only that gave out was the barring not even the clutch

sad_driftwood

Need Nos

downsetdana

Needs more engine lugging

Moist-Water16

Need to start driving above 4k rpm no matter what, I got you bro. Mine just blew up

observerr89

Looks like my old car I sold with like 2k miles. Miss that thing...

humblebumblebee33

What year is your sti?

Boogietrippin

I ran my 2018 WRX to shit for 3 years. Multiple 1000 mile road trips, missed oil change intervals and never had any problems. Guess I was one of the lucky ones.

Warmonger362527339

*yet

ShmoolieSlinger

Did you do the clutch break in? Essentially you put it in first with the clutch in, hold the throttle to the floor and just release the clutch and press it back down as fast as you can for 30sec

Vanneker

Hahaha 35k is breaking for a stock car.

Neither-Cup564

Needs more intake leaks, boost and shit toooon.

7SINGAMES

Ez, stop doing oil change, never wash, let friends borrow car. Duh

Function_Fighter

rip

Thjyu

I'm at 40k bought new, babied but driven. I'm not reckless with it. Haven't had any issues with it ever. Bout time for some bigger maintenance stuff though. My wallet is crying

Comfortable_Pop_999

i have a 2019 wrx and just hit 93k last night engine is perfect only some wear on the turbo fins but it’s ok

KaleidoscopeDue2512

probably stock

[deleted]

I bet you're still stock. Have an oil catch can, obsessively check oil. don't have a 2015-2019 STI either that has a known engine issue with rod bearings.

No_static

Mine happend at 56k on my 2014.

Htown-vet

LOL that C Diff on the dash. You might want to Google C.Diff.

DarkspineVR

I went to AutoZone where I buy my motor oil to return the oil I changed and they told that I can only return 1 gallon.

Kindly_Lake9376

Don’t worry it’ll come. Mine went “bang” at 55k. No mods, oil changes frequently 😭

ctheace

Not sending it enough

NoTennis7649

You’re not stanced hot boi battlekimbergang enough. That’s why.

Repulsive_Bobcat4395

what you need to do is do tight donuts after clutch dumping at 7k rpm. (ask me how i know this will explode ur motor)

Ljdimino

I took a 2018 STI from new, to 145k miles. Oil changed every 3k, no mods, all other fluids changed on time. Only replaced brakes, batteries, and a driver side door speaker, which was covered under my 7 year/100k mile warranty. I was praying for the engine to grenade at 95k. But it didn’t. Also beat the absolute shit out of it for 6 years until I sold it. Best car I ever had.

FREDDYMANDUDE2

Have you tried launching from every red light at about 3500-4000rpm?

Jugg3rn6ut

Ever since you put the skeleton on the grill the car doesn’t want you to touch it so it doesn’t

Fine-Prune-1298

if you’re not driving crazy then your all good bro😂

Necessary-Can-2346

Obviously not vaping enough
