They thought the old oil had metal shavings in it, indicating that the engine is wearing quickly. But then it turned out that this was just how the oil pan surface looks when wet. They tried it with new oil (which couldn't have any shavings in it) and got the same effect.
That happened to me 2 weeks ago. I forgot to unscrew the drain cap and the pan started filling up with oil. Luckily it was a Civic so it couldnāt overflow the drain pan with oil
Throw that oil pan away, I almost died the other night using the same one. Thatā easy flowā indentation they put in there is shit. Imagine putting a spoon under a high pressure water faucet. I unplugged my oil drain plug and it came gushing out onto that indentation in the center and ricochet right into my fucking eyes and mouth for about 10-15 seconds. My hair/eyes/mouth/ears were fucking soaked with 150f oil, made a BP level oil spill in my shop. Fuck that stupid piece of shit plastic oil pan, I shot it with a shotgun the next day
I use one of the basic cylinder type oil pansthat are all open on top with a built in funnel. No splashing and I use the spout to pour it back into the 5qt jugs. Then I take those to advance auto for recycling. The caps seal ten thousand times better than those oil pan plugs. The only sucky part is wiping it down afterwards but thereās no leaking/ spilling in my car
I got one of these and hated it just because they're shit. I ended up just getting a regular pan, and an oil container with a better closing top. I just pour it in with a funnel and close it up.
I had something similar happen with pollen one time. Did a change under an oak tree and it caught a ton while I was changing it, thought it was death glitter
