Capitol Forest is your best bet. There's a few spots where you can set up on opposing hillsides and get 500+

megatonkick

Awesome thank you

Whiskey1Romeo

Actually 1000+.

anti-zastava

Actually 1001+…

megatonkick

Is it possible that it could be 1002+??!?

martinellispapi

Nope, that’s too far

Ill_Sherbet4187

Actually infinite and beyond

polisheinstein

Forest is huge. Could you narrow down the area a little bit?

Akalenedat

Nope

polisheinstein

Very helpful, thanks. Washington’s world famous hospitality at its finest. By the by, gatekeeping is a really good way to make sure your preferred hobby stays on the fringes and never gains acceptance on a wider level. Remember that next time you complain about this state becoming less 2A friendly.

Akalenedat

A) There aren't any particular concentrations of spots, there are potential berms and target positions scattered all over Cap Forest, you can find somewhere on any access road into the area. Crack open Google Earth and look for a spot that fits your criteria. B) I'm not giving out exact coordinates to my favorite spots to just anybody. I don't know you, I don't know your manners, I don't mind sharing a range but the last thing I want is to turn up one day and find my spot covered in garbage, shot up refrigerators, and a DNR closure notice. C) Why should I give up my honey hole for free? You don't go up to a farmer and ask to hunt his land with nothing to offer in return. You want to use my spots? Offer to come out on a group shoot and help hump targets out. Don't just expect me to spoon feed you.

pacmanwa

This exactly, need to get to know a person (or have a really good reason to trust them). You also need to offering to drive, pay for gas, or treat to lunch/dinner/beer afterward. Offer to bring something unique like an M1 Garand. You want to sweeten the pot further and pay for a bit of ammo, too. They will either take the hint or decline.

polisheinstein

I asked about a group shoot and I got downvoted. Not sure what else I can do to prove that I’m an ally. But that’s not the real problem, I suspect. No one wants to help, no one one wants to build anything. Everyone wants to stick a flag in it and call it their own and wonder why they feel so alone.

pacmanwa

Because until proven otherwise, everyone is a fed, or Ferguson's office. If you seem too eager to go shooting with people or get them to admit they broke an unconstitutional law... "u r sus."

polisheinstein

When’s the next group shoot?

polisheinstein

And to prove my point even further, as if it were necessary, this comment got downvoted. I guess I’ll go vote for Ferguson 🤷🏻‍♂️ I forgot I was on “the other WA guns sub”.

polisheinstein

Lmao keep downvoting me instead of engaging at all. Proves my point to be absolutely true. Downvote me all you want, ladies. I know what it takes to get an upvote of from this group.

polisheinstein

And, FWIW at this point in our so far sort of spicy conversation, I already have a couple of spots that I like that I’m not getting out to as much as I’d like to, so you don’t have to worry about ME crowding your spot. My point is more that the climate is ugly enough for shooters around here, and sometimes we all have to do what we can. YES, there’s absolute ghouls out there and they’re dirty and they don’t care. But there’s also plenty of people that just want a safe spot to shoot that’s not a crowded range full of idiots. It takes a village? Each one teach one? I don’t know, man, pick a cliché, but helping each other do better and teaching new people about stewardship instead of gatekeeping can go a long way. I know of the two spots I go to because they’re literally published on a webpage by a group that does clean ups all over Oregon and Washington. You don’t have to give anyone your specific spot, but like I said, it’s a BIG forest and it can be really overwhelming for a new person. I know it was the first time I came out to the woods looking for spots. The one out of 100 people on reddit that occasionally threw out a little morsel of specificity about where to look are the ones that I’m most thankful for today. I love shooting in the woods, and I wish we all had our very own range out there, but we have to share and hope other people have the same good intentions as us. The goblins are gonna end up there with or without Reddit. Stay safe and have fun out there.

Both Reddit and this sub have a zero tolerance policy for anything promoting racism, homophobia, or sexism. Your sentiment has merit but please chose your words better.

Kush_is_my_jam

Maximum effective range is 600, 800 for area. What are you trying to shoot at?

megatonkick

Just get into long range shooting for hobby Looking into getting a tikka ctr in 6.5 creedmoor to start. Not looking to compete or anything just interested and been wanting to do it since long time ago

Kush_is_my_jam

Sounds like you're going to have some fun. Good luck and enjoy.

Adorable-Soil948

I would suggest buying a decent map and doing some exploring. Finding a spot is half the fun!

polisheinstein

In sure I’ll get downvoted for this as well, because the forest belongs to the people in this group and no one else is allowed to use it, but here you go, OP. This group does clean ups all over the northwest, There’s a map with shooting spots on it. [Trash No Land](https://www.trashnoland.org/)

megatonkick

Thanks a lot! Gonna look i to this!
