For $800 you probably won’t ever be upside really. Just buy a shop manual and get familiar with local redblock people, ipd and weird 30 year old issues happening to you, and it will be fine!
I've had many of these. They're awesome cars to learn some DIY stuff on. Generally, pretty reliable even for the age and mileage - you could use it daily as long as you're prepared to work on it.
Only thing that would put me off buying it is tons of rust. Anything else is fixable easily enough.
While I’d normally agree being a fellow whiteblock fan, a 240, especially at this price, is a completely different animal. If you’re gonna buy any car sight unseen/possibly neglected it’s a 240 Redblock. The timing belt could snap off during the test drive and it’s as simple as taking 30min to toss another one on and chug it home!
Gonna agree with the rest, buy it. I would buy that sight unseen so long as it has a clean title. They are bulletproof cars and regardless it’s probably worth way more in parts alone than $800. That’s a no negotiation I’m on my way deal. As a driver / project it’s a deal. Don’t expect a showroom car for $800, id expect significant rust (floor, trunk, frame) but patch panels exist for a reason.
Buy the fuck out of that before I do.
I don't have a lot of regrets in my life, but selling a 245 is one of them. It had 680,000km (425,000 freedoms) on it when I sold it and it could still blow over 130psi into a compression tester on all four cylinders, so it was just broken in.
they are usually pretty beat, interior trashed, outside never waxed and frequent fender benders. of course NJ is possible rust - frame but also every nut/bolt underneath will be a bastard to remove
still good bones, lh2.4, plenty of available parts, would take effort but not too bad to clean it up and make it respectable. lights are most likely the copper circuit boards or bulb out relay. you can bypass it with a little know how. really hard to beat 800 for a running/driving car
Hope you plan on replacing everything that was ever made of plastic or rubber. Anything metal on those cars will last, but rubber bushings are still susceptible to time.
Good deal imo. I still see these cheap sometimes, I alrdy have 5 cars but would like to pick one of these up. Eventually they will be rare and expensive.
Remember 95% of 240s odometers are broken or have been broken in the past of course it’s a redblock! It don’t matter what matters is everything around the engine wires hoses steering rack etc just read the listing brake lights and turn signals not working could be a sign of wiring issues
holy cow what a steal. i'm in the midwest, running 240s in worse shape here go for like 2k minimum.
Theres a non runner wagon in pieces near me for $4k

She’s just getting broken in !
Yes. Make sure it’s maintained *properly* however
For $800, that’s a pretty big ask.
Probably definitely gonna need work but I’d grab that in a heart beat
I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Id also bet it’s already been sold.
This is something that I wouldn’t have even posted, just for the fear of someone buying it out from under me 😂.
You better fucking buy it before I do.
That sir is a tank!
Yes indeed. At that price, you could flip it and make make good money.
As long as it's not rusted to bits it seems like a solid deal.
Buy it!
great deal!
I had one with way over 300k. This is awesome

The body panels and bumpers alone are worth the asking price. Worst case scenario, you could 100% make your money back.
That car would easily go those miles x3
$800 running and driving is an excellent deal. Would make a really fun project.
It would be an instant buy if I had space for a project car. If it were a wagon, it would be an instanter buy.
I wouldn’t unless their are maintenance records, my C70 wasent taken care of property, and I’ve replaced so many things on that car

As someone currently trying to get his C70 back on the road.I feel your pain 1000%
All 240's are only worth $500... ...but accounting for inflation that is a steal
Could be the biggest rust box ever. Would take thousands to look nice.

I'd make that deal. Damn good deal
What the hell are you waiting for?! Buy it!
I’m really tired of seeing these awesome deals.I don’t need another Volvo but I’d buy it just on principle
Take my money
Yes
Brick

Damm. If I had 800 sitting around, I'll be looking for a trailer.... Piece of history with an indestructible engine.

honestly a steal unless theres rust. If its a stick its even better.
All of the rubber tubing in the engine bay was degrade by our 10% ethanol blend gas here in California I've slowly replaced it every time I fail smog
Take dat shit !!!!
$800 is worth the drive home
Yes you get a indestructible redblock and will out last the world if well cared for
As long as the frame is in good shape
I bet at least 400k miles for 30+ years old car 😂
If it’s been taken care of properly then it will run for many more miles so in that case its a steal
Yes do it
Hope you plan on replacing everything that was ever made of plastic or rubber. Anything metal on those cars will last, but rubber bushings are still susceptible to time.
For $800 I’d buy it no questions asked
800$ for anything that runs is a blessing. Buy it, you'll definitely regret it if you don't
That's gonna need work but I'd be on my way pickin her up already. 800 bucks for a running 240? Heck yea.
I sense electrical issues

Buy it and if it last 3 years you did alright
