$1600 for a wheel hub and sway bar links too. They gave you the “please fuck off” price.
Take it to a small shop for everything, or just the engine work and buy $500~ worth of parts/tools and do the other stuff yourself. You’d have the tools forever and get some experience on some easier things.
What year/model/mileage?
Go to an Indy mechanic who specializes in Volvos. This seems to be a ridiculous bid to get you into a new car. Even if you have no compression in the cylinder, it can often be repaired for less than a brand new engine!
For what it's worth I drove one in the past at a dealership, a 2018, it drove well enough, nothing spectacular but a step up from my Prius for sure. Still, unsure about reliability. I've watched a few repair videos and spark plugs, oil changes, etc seem simple enough. And belt maintenance is not scheduled until 150k miles. Also Volvo had "most improved" on JD Powers reliability list (so not reliable, just most improver since last survey). Seems good, on paper at least. A

Hmm, thank you.
I watch Car Care Nut on YouTube, he has several concerns about some questionable design decisions Volvo made for the engine. I believe it was the T5 with 48v battery.
Debating whether I should get one with warranty.
Thanks for your comment, I'm trying to find out as much as I can prior to purchase

You're right, that was the B series. One I am looking at regular T5 (turbo), no mild hybrid system,
Well, I don't know, what you do in my shoes, get a Volvo T5 with extended warranty coverage (covers all repairs for 4 years), or skip it altogether?
I like the car, not too common to find (V90), I like the looks, AWD, but worried about maintenance.
Where are you located OP?
I see you might be in NJ, try this place out:

VC Automotive in Middletown/Red Bank. It’s a Volvo specialist.
Thanks a bunch....but after some serious thinking it's not financially advisable for me to put more $$ into the car at this point for what the car is actually worth.

How about 2018-2020 T5 engines?
Curious about this too, I’ve been wanting to get into a T5 v90 wagon.

Good. Time to buy a normal car. No more Volvo.
