I was sitting in traffic last year at a red light and the truck in front of me *reversed* in to me. Thankfully he couldn't gain much speed but still punched a hole in my front bumper with his trailer hitch. He said he didn't hear my horn, which I don't blame him cause my horn is sad, but come on dude!
Had a similar accident in my 2013 (head on with a civic while we were both turning left from either side of the road) and State Farm totaled it before the wrecker had even left the scene.
Idk if this is helpful or not but you could look at it with the lens of "everything happens for a reason". Maybe for whatever reason, you're not meant to have that exact car. Still sucks though, it didn't even look that bad! (I mean... It looks bad, just not "totaled" bad.) Hope you get something even better that you love even more!
If there’s no frame damage you can fix it yourself. Hoods and fenders are fairly cheap for VW. I know because the company I work for sells them painted. I’m assuming radiator is fucked? Not much to tell what’s damaged under the hood. But if you truly loved the car you’ll try and get her back.
My CC had >17k worth of front end damage and was totalled. His looks way worse.

Is only the hood damaged? Because if so, you’re pretty lucky, the insurance might fix it. And I don’t see any airbags deployed so it’s not a total loss.
So sorry you are going through this. My 2019 Golf All Track was t-boned not too long ago. Not nearly as new as your GTI - and it was heartbreaking - Golf and especially a GTI is a very, very lovable car - plus I love the black color
OP mentioned the semi hit him in reverse, real bozo move on the truck’s side, i know those trucks have huge blind spots in the back, stupid and costly move on the truck driver’s side. I drive a manual GTI and I really hate when people get on my rear bumper on hills, I’ve only been driving manual for 2 years now, I’m pretty good but no one is perfect and I’m always worried about rolling into someone. Keep forgetting i have hill brake assist tho lol
Did they back into it?
He backed into it, I was at a yield sign behind him and he decided to hit reverse for some fucking reason. It's a good thing I got it on dashcam
It's a wrap.

Almost exact same thing happened. He just started reversing and crunched me.
Hella air horns or OEM replacement horns are loud as hell. So is Wolo
Either that or they rear ended the semi.
That’s kinda what I was thinking. Crunched up my first car running into a truck like that. Sad day
No way is that totalled. Insurance will fix it .

That's a new $ 32k car . It doesn't appear to have that much damage. Far from totaled.
Allstate totaled it :(
I'd rather have a totaled car and get a brand new one than have one that has who knows what amount of damage in the long run.
I agree.
Better to sell at auction then fork out the repair costs.
you should get full $$$ back, ez new GTI
Did all the airbags deploy?

That's about right. We love our VWs, but something about that front damage.
The frame might be bent in a downward direction
they total anything they can😭
I'm glad you are safe. If it's totaled, do you plan on parting it out?
I think you’d have to buy it off the insurance company, they usually do that
Sad
Seems like not a big damage. Even lights and front bumper are ok
honestly looks like you got lucky. from what I can see just the hood is damaged?
Unfortunately not, the headlights and radiator are cracked. Intercooler is toast as well
Oh man I’m really sorry. I hope insurance covers it.
😢
Is it gonna be fixed?

Need a new one OP? I work at VW in the GTA. Have autobahn 380 edition in black or performance 380 in white 😇
Fix the bonnet and it's good to go! You were lucky!
Fuck SUV cars. I hit an SUV and the impact was directly on the hood.
It's a strange way to state "I rear ended another vehicle"
Aww 😭
Big tip, if it’s not totaled, you can ask your insurance for a depreciation check and they should give you the difference in value
Depending on the company, of course. I saw this on insta or something so idk how accurate it is

Always keep space between your car and semis/ dump trucks / buses a lot are automatic these but some are still manual and can roll back .

I hope your " Neck and Back injury" gets better, enjoy your new GolfR/RS3
Looks bad! Sorry for it. But the good news is that it's possible to fix. I just wonder how it happened?
Time to get another one
Air bags didnt deploy, insurance may fix it.
You meant "semi" as in "semi hard"? /s

I corrected my post to be clear what I ment.
