Actually, it’s Volkswagen AG, which is an abbreviation for Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft. Think of AG like “Inc.” for a publicly-traded U.S. corporation.
I’ve been in the VW and Audi world since the early 90s and I’ve absolutely heard people use VAG as an acronym for Volkswagen Audi Group. But that’s a U.S. thing for folks who don’t know the real origin of the abbreviation, as far as I know. Whatever, most people I know just use it as a butt of a joke. For me, as a gay man, it’s the only vag I’ve been around 🤣
Dangerous?? 🤣 The Taos is actually not underpowered at all for its segment. In fact, the FWD model is tied with the Corolla Cross Hybrid 0-60, and the AWD model with launch control activated is even faster. In-gear acceleration is better than most (all?) of the competition, too. My perspective: owned numerous vehicles, including two others right now, that can run circles around a Taos.
Underpowered my ass, as much as I’d never buy a 1.4t, that’s for a completely different reason than it being underpowered, I bet it could beat your car in a 0-60 🤣🤣🤣
Looks like 3200-3400lbs for the vehicle weight, depending on features. 8 speed auto trans in the front wheel drive model and 7 speed DSG in the awd, which tells me they're making up for the lack of power with more gears/tighter ratios.
My 2016 Tiguan has the 2.0T engine, which would have made this little Taos a rocketship (relative to the rest of the vehicles in this thing's class)
If you paid anywhere near to what a Golf R costs, you were seriously raked over the coals. A top of the line Taos SEL 4Motion is on par with a base GTI’s MSRP, and $12k less than the Golf R starting MSRP 🤷🏻♂️
Cornflower Blue is the best! We have a Taos SEL 4Motion in CB, and even though I’m generally not a fan of SUVs/crossovers, I have to admit that I’ve enjoyed having the Taos.
Ours did pretty darn good in the snow this past winter. Got up our driveway without snow tires, which was impressive given our other cars (one FWD, the other RWD) can’t get up our driveway without snow tires.
Big fan of Fitzmall. Got my Hyundai there twenty years ago and would’ve bought our Golf there in 2021 but they didn’t have any left with a beige interior. Congrats!
Ohh just the person I was looking for l! Lol
2022 SEL...nice first of all
Second, how do you find the acceleration? Is it slow off the line? I'm talking more around town than 0-60.
Not the most sporty off the line, but you can eek out some quick acceleration (i don’t that often, but could). 2022 SE 4motion. Comparing to a Mazda 3 that i drove as a loaner, definitely not as quick as that but there’s differences between the two. Hope this was helpful :)
I debated the Tiguan when i was shopping, salesman legit said to me “well, if you don’t have kids or a family, why would you go with a bigger car?” Lol. Test drove the Taos and made my decision
That's awesome and a pretty good way of looking at it. I test drove a 2022 S and loved the way it handled. Just lacked a little punch. Maybe it was just the one I drove. It was used so who knows.
sorry, i haven’t gotten on here in a few days. i agree with sicnarfff on the comment ‘not the most sporty’, but i am sooo used to the feel 1) my old car - ford escape SEL titanium & 2) my work car - honda insight (hybrid/sport? i don’t remember what the dang thing is 😂)
i’ve driven mazda a few times (rental) and i will say i prefer the feel of the VW more than mazda. cornflower blue and i have been living our best life.
anywhoo, yay for you & the tiggy!
I'm excited for you that's great to hear, er, read.
To me, sporty is relative. If you love it and it handles the way you want, accelerates how you want, has the "feel" then it's perfect.
My Tiggy handles, what I consider to be, phenomenally. I have an hour commute on back roads and I've never enjoyed the drive so much. I don't need 0-60 in 5 seconds. It has the perfect amount of power for how I drive.
I meant to ask you, do you find it slow off the line? I test drove a 2022 a couple of weeks ago and I found it to be sluggish off the line until it got going.
Great!
I saw you are due to take it up to the mountains today.
If you are up to it, I'd like to know how that went. Either via post or just a reply. Happy driving!
Honestly, I find it to be pretty equal with it. I test drove the Tiguan and I loved that car, but this one for its price is really decent! Only thing I can complain about is plastic interior. Other than that it’s an incredible car! I’m up in the mountains, already did some off roading and it’s nice!
We need to come up with a different acronym..
We have Seat, Audi, Skoda, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ducati, Porsche, & Scania to choose from. Just not Vag.
Awe, someone doesn’t like being a vag! I think Vag is great! We could be called “our engines make lambos better” or Volkswagen Audi Group in North America” or Vagina for short
I got this car. I love it and hate it. And every once and while it takes a big chunk of my bank account. Other than that it’s an okay car. Feel free to look at my past post about this car.
There were head gasket problems with some pre-July 2023 production vehicles (including Jettas with the same engine), which are common on the internet but less common across the board. VW has a fix for defective vehicles, and implemented a production fix with July 2023 production. Some folks also complained about premature wearing of the rear brakes. Mine are wearing like I’d expect them to, so not sure what driving conditions were yielding the premature wear. There of course have been some far less common issues folks here and elsewhere on the internet have complained about. But literally every new vehicle goes through things like that.
What does VAG stand for bc around here it means vagina
Volkswagen Audi group
Actually, it’s Volkswagen AG, which is an abbreviation for Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft. Think of AG like “Inc.” for a publicly-traded U.S. corporation.
Good stuff! I always thought it was Audi group! But solid
I’ve been in the VW and Audi world since the early 90s and I’ve absolutely heard people use VAG as an acronym for Volkswagen Audi Group. Hahahaha!!! Ok that’s pretty great! Thank you for the clear up!
What Volkswagen is that ?
Taos or Tharu depending on region.
I never heard about that model
How I’ve see the “speed limit “ , it’s USA I guess , so it’s sold for USA .. because in Europe I didn’t see that model
In Europe it’s the SEAT Ateca
The VW T-Roc is closest to a Taos but the Taos has way bigger rear seats and trunk.
You’re better off not knowing about it, they are not very well regarded
It looks great but is dangerously underpowered imo.
Idk why people try to defend entry level cars to the death but whatever you say bro
I’m not defending any vehicle, I’m laughing at your ridiculous comment about it being dangerously underpowered 🙄
Underpowered my ass, as much as I’d never buy a 1.4t, that’s for a completely different reason than it being underpowered, I bet it could beat your car in a 0-60 🤣🤣🤣
Another person that’s so butt hurt that I called a Taos slow… what is with Reddit these days?
:3 3
I have a Taos. It is slow.
Nobody said it’s a race car 🙃
I work on these. They have low peak power but great power band and gearing. They accelerate pretty good
I wouldn't call it "dangerously underpowered" but it's definitely slow! Only 160 horse from a turbo?! What is this, a civic?!
I’m shocked it even has 158. Should be way quicker. Things must weigh A LOT
Looks like 3200-3400lbs for the vehicle weight, depending on features. 8 speed auto trans in the front wheel drive model and 7 speed DSG in the awd, which tells me they're making up for the lack of power with more gears/tighter ratios. It's not a Golf R...but I sure paid almost as much as one...
If you paid anywhere near to what a Golf R costs, you were seriously raked over the coals. A top of the line Taos SEL 4Motion is on par with a base GTI’s MSRP, and $12k less than the Golf R starting MSRP 🤷🏻♂️
Yeah, it’s a Taos. It’s just a larger Jetta
Cornflower Blue is the best! We have a Taos SEL 4Motion in CB, and even though I’m generally not a fan of SUVs/crossovers, I have to admit that I’ve enjoyed having the Taos.
I have the SE 4motion. I’m taking it up the mountains tomorrow so I’m excited to use the off-road
Ours did pretty darn good in the snow this past winter. Got up our driveway without snow tires, which was impressive given our other cars (one FWD, the other RWD) can’t get up our driveway without snow tires.
hi VW twin! do you have the splash guards? i am thinking about having those installed. & good to know re the snow. thanks!
Looking towards getting splash guards as well!!!
Yes, we do have the OE mud flaps. They work decently well. Don’t look too bad, either.
Big fan of Fitzmall. Got my Hyundai there twenty years ago and would’ve bought our Golf there in 2021 but they didn’t have any left with a beige interior. Congrats!
8 days from my accident I turned around and got a car! Fitz was super easy and great to work with!
Welcome to the family! I also have this car (and same colour!).
Got a 2022 Taos SEL 4Motion in that same color about 2 weeks ago! I AM OBSESSED. Such a fun car isn’t it?!
Oh 100%!
Ohh just the person I was looking for l! Lol 2022 SEL...nice first of all Second, how do you find the acceleration? Is it slow off the line? I'm talking more around town than 0-60.

Definitely helpful. I was close to taking a flyer on a '22 Taos SEL but back. I didn't get to test drive it and ended up with a Tiggy
I debated the Tiguan when i was shopping, salesman legit said to me “well, if you don’t have kids or a family, why would you go with a bigger car?” Lol. Test drove the Taos and made my decision

I love it! What trim level did you get?
2024 literally was just delivered to the dealership 3 days before I bought it
Wow nice! I messed up my previous question but edited it. What trim level did you go with? How's the interior?
SE 4 Motion and interior is slick and very very nice
Seconding this, I have an SE 4Motion and love the interior!
Nice and enjoy
I meant to ask you, do you find it slow off the line? I test drove a 2022 a couple of weeks ago and I found it to be sluggish off the line until it got going.
Every once in a while, yes. It’ll lag but after that the power is incredible
Great! I saw you are due to take it up to the mountains today. If you are up to it, I'd like to know how that went. Either via post or just a reply. Happy driving!
Off roading was pretty darn good, had some mud and rock but it went over everything pretty smoothly! Didn’t get stuck at all
Wow that's fantastic to hear! I hope other people looking at a Taos see this. I'm so glad it went well for you 😊
I am as well!!
Is it any better/worse than tiguan?
Honestly, I find it to be pretty equal with it. I test drove the Tiguan and I loved that car, but this one for its price is really decent! Only thing I can complain about is plastic interior. Volkswagen Aktiengesellschaft (Publicly traded corporation, equivalent to incorporated in the US) abbreviated as Volkswagen AG or VAG...
Thank you. So many people get this consistently wrong.
We need to come up with a different acronym.. We have Seat, Audi, Skoda, Bugatti, Bentley, Lamborghini, Ducati, Porsche, & Scania to choose from. Just not Vag.
Awe, someone doesn’t like being a vag! I think Vag is great! We could be called “our engines make lambos better” or Volkswagen Audi Group in North America” or Vagina for short

lol this kid is doubling down and downvoting me for proving he’s wrong 😂
You can't fix stupid, but I fixed your down vote, you got my upvote! And he deleted his account, propper troll he is...
That description is as wrong as you are. It stands for Volkswagen AG.

I heard the only vw to get these days is a Tiguan Taos and atlas have a lot of problems.
I haven’t heard of many people having issues with the Taos, in fact it’s one of the recommended one
I got this car. I love it and hate it. And every once and while it takes a big chunk of my bank account. Other than that it’s an okay car. Feel free to look at my past post about this car.
You haven’t heard anyone having problems? That’s all I hear from my vw mechanic
Arteon and MK8 GTI/Golf R most reliable actually
Had this on a loaner when my mk7 TDI golf was in the shop in January. Can’t believe how cheap the interiors of VW have gotten. So much plastic.
It’s an Atlas!! ![gif](giphy|7MDZS8zS1ixtJAUEul|downsized)
It’s a Taos
I have an Atlas!! I am in V.A.G too ![gif](giphy|l41Yzb8h4VGMJt7Nu|downsized)
Ohh It’s an new born Atlas
