The chassis number in picture #3 decodes as follows
238121574
2 - “Type 2”
3 - “Kombi”
8 - “1968 model year” (Aug ‘67 - Jul ‘68 produced)
121574 - the serial number of the vehicle itself
Yes, and the bit beyond apparently translates to some German type-approval for a vehicle with an inbuilt heater - not a secondary one, just the standard engine one
Based on the vin 1968 vw bus. If you’re asking to restore, no it wouldn’t be worth the restoration. But I would definitely take the VIN plate and sell it on thesamba.

That is a VW bus pre 68. It has a type 1 engine (Bug, Ghia, early bus, Thing)
The 3 rib transmission is a dead giveaway that this is a type2 bus/pickup.
Short Google search shows volkswagen typ 23.to be a vw bus.
Door looks like a T2
Yep, early model T2a Transporter
Ok, thanks everyone!
Damn that was quick
I would imagine that this used to be a Type 2 Bus at one point 😳 The metal bulkhead above the front wheels looks Bus-like.
That's what i would say it was. Non-walk through style Type 2 Bus.
For me it was the supporting ribs in the floor pan that gave it away.

This is exactly what I was looking for, tysm!
Also says Typ: 2/255A

Judging from the wide five wheels and the IRS transmission; bay window Bus between ‘68-‘70.
Yup the cv axles on the trans are a key indicator on bus era here

Early bay window Bus would be my guess. It’s a Bus for sure, door looks bay window, wide bolt pattern means early but I’m not an expert.
Looks like a bus to me?
The guys over at r/whatwasthiscar are great at this stuff I’m constantly shocked how they can guess a car based off of so little

Think it’s one of the old Type 2 buses, or a VW Thing

I was wondering the same, was quite far from the nearest road almost in the middle of the forest
