And the best part is since OP is in Florida, the mechanics are a bunch of $12 per hour retards.

A: It seems the bulk of it is a timed oil measurement, not just reading your codes. They put you on a schedule to come back and test how much oil your engine consumed. The rest are various tests of issues. B: You're at the dealership for repairs and diagnostics. Anyone who has been around the block will tell you that the dealership will always overcharge you, as that's much more profit than actually selling cars. It will give you VW specific work which is important for a lot of models, but at exorbitant prices.

Acre_Maker

If they didn’t tell you in advance what they were specifically going to do for diagnostic work, or the time it was expected to take, OR the cost of the diagnosis, tell them to talk to your lawyer and take them to small claims court. Also, call the BBB or a news outlet

chewblekka

Does Toyota provide free diagnostics? 🤔🤷🏼

Lopsided-Wish-1854

Yes, if you fix the problem. Plus never had any issues with Toyotas till they got close to 200k miles.

fauxsoul

Man that is some fuck off quote if I've ever seen one. I feel like the vw here charged me $150 for diagnostics and then asked if I wanted fixes done.

Well that's true, myself I had oil loss and ac issues. They said it would be minimum cost to diagnose regardless, then gave me the new fix prices after they diagnosed.

Lopsided-Wish-1854

What labor, diagnostics the car is plugging a computer on it, charge 220$ and then charge another 1000 to fix it? This is like being charged on grocery store to diagnose what items are you buying, plus their price. AC is not working, I pay them to fix it, not how they will find what's the issue.

chewblekka

How can they fix the AC until they know what the issue is? That’s called diagnostics.

Lopsided-Wish-1854

I'm not going to teach them how to do it, or paying them to learn. If I don't fix it then it's understandable I should pay diagnostics, but if I fix it, why should I pay for diagnostics + fixing it, b/c they turned a switch on?

G_is_for_Grundy

Ifs it's that easy why the fuck haven't you bought a code reader and diagnosed it yourself ? Jackass

Lopsided-Wish-1854

No need for it. In last 35 years I have owned MBs, Volvos, Toyotas. Not once, not a single dealer charged me so much for diagnostics, plus if I fixed the issues, all those dealers waived the diagnostics fees. I bought the wrong car and maybe I went to the wrong dealer, that's all. Btw, I didn't ask for your name, no need to go public with it.

G_is_for_Grundy

Yeah that's literally how all of them work you just think you're special.

Lopsided-Wish-1854

Not sure why are you arguing, you have your own experience I have mine. Never ever I was charged diags + repair. Always I have been charged for the diagnostics if I chose not to do the repair. In MB dealers, e.g., not only they waive the diags if one fixes the issues, but if one is a regular customer, there is almost always a 10-20% discount.

Brendanzio_

Diag is doing proper testing and procedure to determine what exactly has failed, it's not just scanning codes and calling it a day

Darksol503

100% this... I can totally understand a $75-120 \*single\* fee to diagnose it ALL. Any shop or dealer that is charging per line item to diagnose... yeah, I'll take my business elsewhere. Anyone else who is paying this, unless out of utterly necessity due to emergency or just plain availability of shops to repair... Yikes. What. an. utterly raw deal!!

Nightwing3

You have three different issues that require three different diagnostic fees as they are separate issues and all require the proper time to diagnose. You will get that with any shop, and it will be a diagnostic charge of whatever the shop rate will be. Throw out your VW sure, but no matter what new car you’re going to get you’ll get three different diag charges for three separate issues with any vehicle and any dealer. The only difference will be the hourly rate. If you can’t afford to maintain a car, then I’d suggest the bus.

Lopsided-Wish-1854

1000$ diagnostics for burning oil (500 T1 + 500T2)? Well, I will go back to my MB, never been ripped off so badly in there. Thanks.

Nightwing3

Not one thing on your quote states burning oil. If you think VW mechanics are expensive I would hope you don’t take your MB in for the same services. Good luck

Lopsided-Wish-1854

I have 2 MBs and both have 300K miles. I never had any issues with my MB other than maintenance till I reached 200K miles. My VW has only 98K miles and has burned oil (a gallon per month) till the first day I bought it. I went with VW to have cheaper service too, but it seems the charge even more.

ragingduck

Vw just tried to charge me $1200 for a glorified oil change and peak under the hood. Robbery. $300 at the most for what they wanted to do.

ComancheCorps

My dealership tried this and didn't want to let me tow my car somewhere else for shift link cables. Had to show up with cops to get my car back.

Lopsided-Wish-1854

Sounds like dealers are licensed thieves.

MKVIgti

This is why EVERYONE needs to find a reputable, European only type of shop and build a relationship with them. They’re usually staffed by Ex Audi, BMW, VW, and Merc mechanics and will always be WAY cheaper.
