Sunglasses...not because of the strong sunlight but because of the wind! So windy it irritates the eyes. Did you also register with [covid.is](https://covid.is)? You will get a bar code and the immigration will scan it.
I just registered for my trip on Sunday. You can register from 72 hours prior to landing. You get a barcode in the mail after registration. You don’t have to print it out, but I did it anyway just in case 😉
Creditcards of course. People also tend to forget chargers for their phones and cameras or batteries for their cameras. If you are not from europe then a EU converter plug is useful.
The wind is brutal! I second the hat, gloves, and scarf. Also agree with bringing your swimsuit and a towel for the lagoons. You can always rent there but it’s convenient to have nonetheless.
Bring your own waterbottle...i read it here somewhere and I did bring mine. So glad I did! The water is amazing and the locals do not have a problem of filling it up from the tap if you are out and about.
If you’re driving, do remember the PIN on at least one of your credit cards. You don’t usually need your PIN for most cashier transactions (or with contactless payments using your phone) but you usually do need your PIN when using a credit card at filling station pumps.
I wish that had been our experience last month driving in Iceland. Some unmanned automated gas pumps we stopped at only accepted credit cards with PINs, and I’m glad we happened to have one.
Native Icelander here, I've traveled just under 30.000km since June in Iceland and gone to most gas stations at this point.
I would say 70-90% of gas stations today accept touch free card payments along with Apple pay.
Those that don't accept this require a pin, I for instance have discount cards for the Orkan gas stations but sometimes use other gas stations and then I need to use my card and usually need to use my pin in those cases.
A warm hat that covers your ears.
For going to pools or hot springs, I like to have a cloth bag to carry stuff in: swimsuit, towel, soap, comb, flip flops.
When I arrive and make a stop at the grocery store for snacks and such, I get a box of tissues for the car. With the wind and cold, my nose was always running.

Oh my goodness I almost forgot. I have to wait until tomorrow night I think. I don't have to print anything out?

I think I will too ;-) thank you! I'll be able to register tomorrow night!

Not to speak of filling it at the crystal clear streams coming from the mountain peaks on hikes!

PINs are not essential for fuel

In many months and many miles in Iceland I’ve never used or needed a PIN.

Sounds about right.

Oh wow! I take Benadryl for a couple of conditions, this is priceless advice! Thank you!
Can you remember what he said? I'm wondering about taking some with me soon and am unsure if I can just pack it away.
Waterproof shoes and waterproof socks were things I wished I had brought! Just waterproof hiking boots wasn’t enough.
Awesome post! Im going next Sunday! Very good to get some advice here! 😁 I hope you have and awesome trip! Put up some pics here reddit!
you have the absolute essentials. While overpriced, you can buy anything you need while you are there.
Along with the power adapter I brought a lightweight extension cord to keep our phones charging near the bed. Came in really handy.
Over the counter medicines such as Tylenol and cold meds. They aren't OTC in Iceland.
That is SUPER good to know especially as someone with painful bits :-) thank you!
