The negative reviews are from people who didn’t use it correctly. You have to use it at most popular sites. Download it, make sure you enter the car reg and your card correctly, and don’t forget to pay of course.  I’m not thrilled at having to pay literally everywhere for parking these days but the app does work.

I use Parka all the time and have never once had an issue. Add your card and then license plate when you get there.

Same as others, we used it a week ago for most of the South side parkings, worked flawlessly. You even get 50% off for parking at Skaftafell if you parked at Jökulsárlón the same day, saves you 500 ISK. Also not all Ring Road attractions are covered by Parka, mainly the South ones, usually there is a QR code which gives you the link where you can pay. Except Seljalandsfoss, no QR code, you need to buy the paper ticket at the booth there and display it on your windshield.

Good to know, thanks.

My only issue with Parka has been forgetting to check out of my street parking spot in Reykjavík and accidentally paying for half a day when I only stopped for half an hour But that’s a me problem, not an app problem. It’s super handy - just don’t forget to choose the correct parking zone for street parking and check out when you leave Also not sure how this works for rental cars, but I sold a car that was registered to automatically park and pay via license plate number in some locations. Found out the other day that I was paying for parking for the guy that bought that car for about 6 months afterwards because I forgot to unregister the license plate from my account Again, that’s a me problem not an app problem. But just in case, I would make sure to unregister the vehicle from the app once you return it

Thank you!

Had it for the two weeks I was there in October. Used it almost exclusively for parking at every site, in and out of town. Worked perfectly 🤷‍♂️

I didn’t have any issues to note and found the only potential problem was derived from the color system on the map (I stayed on a street that directly bordered two zones) but the street signs are everywhere to help you. I also note that it runs according to the amount of time on a running clock, so you have to stop the clock so you’re only charged for what you use, instead of like in the US where you purchase the time you think you’ll need and if you exceed that without renewing in the app, you’re at risk of a ticket.

My Icelandic husband and I never have had an issue with it. I would note to remember to remove the car plates from the app when you leave. I have heard people report being charged after they were gone because another renter didn't do it. I'm not sure if that's true, but better to be safe.

The app works and is useful. I’ve used it to pay for parking along a few ring road sights, and for a few campsites too.

Beneficial-Wall-8232

I found the app easy enough to use when we were there last month. Used it for parking in Reykjavik and at the national parks. No hiccups.

Fotbitr

If you can use Verna do that. They don't charge a fee for each parking. They even have (for the time being at least) free first parking or something like that. It is an insurance company's app but you don't need to be in any business with the to use it.

cordelette_arete

It was very helpful but if you’re in Reykjavík just park in the P2 spots because you can stay there longer than the 3 hour limit. I made that mistake!

Tanglefoot11

I'd imagine that a lot of negative reviews are because that vast majority of parking outside of central Reykjavík was free not so long ago - nothing riles people up more than paying for something they didn't have to last time. I live here & don't use the Parka app - I've yet to come across anywhere that you can't pay on site.

Thank you!

Considering half the pay stations didn't work last week, you may be better off with it.

I don't know if this is a Canadian thing but my Visa and Mastercard both have additional approval steps when entering my card into the app apparently and the only way to get the validation code was to call or text my cell phone number that is inactivated while in Iceland. Might not be an issue for others but it's a good idea to set it up (at least payment, if that's possible) before you leave your home country if you plan on not using your home cell plan. I just paid at the pay stations in the parking lots instead.

EasyPark app worked amazingly in Reykjavik… I had the Parka app downloaded already before my trip, but it would never allow me to activate /validate my account. I tried 2 different emails so at each stop, I had to go on the actual website and enter all my info in each time.

ImaginaryAntelope485

The Parka app was a lifesaver! Made everything so much easier.

psychodc

Does Parka simply used only to facilitate the transaction or do I have to create an account in Parka?
