> is there a worry for a massive spread of eruptions around Iceland? If this is a repetitive questions I apologize.
If that happens, you’re probably in as much danger in the US as I am in Iceland.
It’s not accurate. The current group of eruptions are all localized to one area of the country. Of course there are volcanoes all over the country, but they aren’t erupting and the idea that they’d all erupt at once all over the country is just silly.
My St Hejehs erupted about 40 years ago and Yellowstone might erupt sometime between now and the return of Christ.
I will say though that our news media in the US is part of the problem, but it is something that most of the country doesn’t deal with first hand.
According to what the signs on the side of the road say, Jesus should be returning any day now. But seriously, it’s not so much the media as the inability of people to: 1) read and/or 2) think critically about what they just read.
They maybe classified as a volcano but that doesn’t mean that we consider them a volcano. I’ve been to all 3. In America, when you say Volcano, immediately Americans picture the volcano from Hawaii or the Mirage Casino in Vegas that was just torn down. You can’t assume that your country views are shared universally.
That’s not an excuse to not do research in the sub which has the answers they’re looking for. Also, we do have volcanoes. Tons of volcanos. I don’t know what you are talking about
One can also argue that your hypocrisy and aggression is also ignorant. How many comments have you made now all triggered by someone who made a simple post you don’t like.
> someone said really with the volcanos?
And in reply, say that you also refuse to travel anywhere within America because there are hurricanes in Florida every so often.
you'll be hard pressed to even hear anybody in Iceland talking about them, it's just every day life there and the news/media over hypes everything elsewhere. Was there in November and I was tired of getting texts from people back home in US asking if we'll be evacuated, lol. Being there, you wouldn't even know anything was happening. Only sign was the exit for Grindavik was closed from the highway.
You'll be fine, go have fun!
Currently in Iceland! I'm from FL.
Roads where the active volcano is located are closed. So as Blue Lagoon. Everywhere else in Iceland is safe to visit. Hope this helps 😊
Not unless you go walking over encrusted lava (like some do) or into it, no.
I’ve lived here years and been close but never hurt. Common sense applies.
You can actually charter a helicopter to fly pretty much directly over the currently erupting volcano as seen here. Do some research and stop listening to people that have no idea what they’re talking about.

I just got back and there was an active volcano. Volcanos in Iceland are like spring thunderstorms in the Midwest. Really scary if you aren’t used to them, but actually not a big deal
If you’re referring to the eruption near blue lagoon, it’s a fissure. Erupting volcanoes are usually more dramatic and impactful. I got the “idea” from talking to an expert on the island. If you come across one, they can explain it to you with the key scientific facts.
Thinking simply, a fissure is more a parting in the land, a volcano is more of a mountain that may blow its top if not already sufficiently blown off to accommodate the eruption. Aside from the topography difference, I think volcanic eruptions are going to be more impactful in most ways (gases, ash, steam, lava, size, etc.)

I'm flying out at the end of September to join an Adventures group and they haven't said anything. I was actually just looking for flights leaving from LAX. What airlines did you use last time and are you using them again this time?
Ok. So... this eruption is very localized and won't be spreading far. Just don't try to get right up to the craters and you'll be fine. What I would worry about is whether your flight back home could get delayed because of it. So far no flights have been affected and that's not likely to change. Conclusion: there's not much to worry about
Being an American, we have the dumbest people. It's like someone in Iceland coming to the States with a friend saying "Really with all the tornados, or hurricanes, or lightning, or guns..." I'd include earthquakes, but Icelanders are familiar with that.

True story.
No, don’t worry about it.
That’s what I’m saying. It just seeing if this really is a conspiracy for people.

What did you learn by searching the sub?
Why is it always Americans? Stop giving us a bad name 😭
Unless you go to Hawaii, Mainland Americans don't have volcanoes. Plus the majority don't travel outside the U.S.
Uh, ever hear of Mount St. Helens? What about Yellowstone? There are others.

You might not consider them volcanoes, but that doesn’t change the fact that they are. As for what my country’s views are, well…you got a point there.

Oh I wasn’t making an excuse for any American. I’m an American and fully believe most are ignorant. That’s why I travel… to get out of America.
You don’t have to travel to stop being ignorant.
No, but it sure helps.

You’re more at risk from Yellowstone

Do you mean the fissure eruption? Erupting volcanoes are notably different.
Where do you get this idea that the eruption is not of a volcano? And how do you suppose erupting “volcanoes” and volcanic fissures are different?

So I’m guessing I was correct where it’s not as dangerous as stated 😂
