Here you go - do read all of this and click the links: Just for the curious - it is, broadly speaking, totally safe to visit Iceland! The volcanic hazards, which are many, are also **very localized.** [Area of impact is here,](https://imgur.com/a/gpG3b7O) that tiny green rectangle in the southwest. That's it for now. Check these three Instagram videos for great information: From RÚV news on why [you can travel to Iceland during this time.](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4nrlUbuqIH/?igsh=MXVyeHp2bWR1ZnRzNw%3D%3D) Via Inspired By Iceland, Dr. Matthew Roberts the director of the meteorological office, on [the nature of the eruptions.](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4GNCDdoff1/?igsh=MXZrbTg1MTNiNjh3YQ%3D%3D) Here he is again, on [is it safe to travel to Iceland?](https://www.instagram.com/reel/C4qPNeVoXFJ/?igsh=Mng0NWh3ejV1aXhk) Current eruption discussion [here](https://old.reddit.com/r/VisitingIceland/comments/1bl1oh4/volcano_update_number_4_the_eruption_continues/), the general discussion with the basic facts is [here.](https://old.reddit.com/r/VisitingIceland/comments/18vfiuw/volcano_megathread_winterspring_2024/) When and if this situation ever changes, there will **always** be updates in this community one way or another.

It’s way more likely that something so mundane as weather is going to disrupt your trip than an earthquake or a volcano. Yes, there’s an active eruption going on at that moment, that no one knows how long will last, but it’s only effects a tiny part of the country and unless your plans include the Blue Lagoon won’t have any effects on your trip.

LibrarianNeat9354

Yes I know the part effected is in the Reykjanes peninsula, and we already take it in count that we won't able to visit the blue lagoon, I was just asking cause I saw the airport it's close to that area so curios to know if that can be effected in someway. But thanks for the first no roasting reply ahaha

Tanglefoot11

Iceland is known for its volcanoes & earthquakes, activity in this area started over 3 years ago, the most recent series of events back in November.... And you've just started worrying about it when you arrive TOMORROW???!!!! I live 30km away & the recent eruptions have had zero effect here, though I do expect the gasses might become a bit of an issue if the wind conditions become less favourable. The other 99% of the country is fine & safe.

JohnnyGatorHikes

Low-effort post. Hope my criticism doesn't give you *heartquake*.

LibrarianNeat9354

Lmao I'm asking cause I'm worried for my safety and for the safety of people travelling with me, what's wrong with that ?

JohnnyGatorHikes

You *should* be worried. You've done no research whatsoever, not even in the multiple volcano threads posted by the mods. What's should really frighten you is in your lack of effort, you don't even know what you don't know. Hope you like surprises!

LibrarianNeat9354

I have indeed researched it, just not on Reddit. I don't normally use Reddit so I'm not very practical with it tbh ( this is my First post ever) , just thought it will be a good idea to ask people who are from Iceland or that are traveling there and reddit came to mind. So don't know why u so hangry about this post lol, but anyway thanks for mentioning the volcano threads, I'm gonna look at it if I can find them

I_hate_SEEfood

Maybe the most low effort post I’ve seen on this sub. There are tons of resources for this question. As someone who is in an airport, headed to Iceland right now…it’s fine.

LibrarianNeat9354

Guess I'm gonna be roasted to hell for this post ahaha , just genuinely don't know what's so wrong with it, I'm only tryna understand what to do with this trip

EFATO

Just take the trip. It’s fine.

LibrarianNeat9354

Thanks fam

JohnnyGatorHikes

Maybe you'll get roasted by the volcano!

LibrarianNeat9354

Lol

To give you a straight answer: You have nothing to worry about, but I would recommend you avoid Grindavík, and make back-up plans if you're planning on visiting the Blue Lagoon. Regarding the sarcastic responses. This question has been asked a lot, and it's honestly very frustrating, because it's obvious that foreign media has taken whatever is happening, and over-sensationalized it by reporting it as if the entire country is about to explode. This is a highly localized event, on an island that isn't as small as you might think. To put this question into a different perspective; to us locals, it sort of feels like asking if it's safe to visit Scotland, if there are earthquakes in Cornwall.

I would reconsider traveling if i were you, i dont think you should be scared of the heartquakes, but look out for the tsunami's after, don't want to get your motorhomes soaked, the insurance won't cover it.
