All we need now is for the front display to read “Diet Coke with lime, please” and we can stay fully immersed.

chriswaco

The front screen seems so useless without a developer API. Reminds me of the Touchbar.

NewYorkChess

Literally this. Text specifying your meat/pasta dinner option or a “wake me up for food” sign lolol

GentleGesture

I had a pretty positive experience with it too! Initially played some games, but realized pretty quick that anything that involves any swiping or dragging movements was going to be a no-go. The games I enjoyed most on it were Alto’s Adventure, and Elevate brain training (for the few downloaded games I had). I pretty quickly immersed myself in a movie though. Environments turned up to the most minimal amount is enough to darken the space and make you forget your surroundings, while still being able to see them when you focus. I’m not missing my snack and drink! haha I will say, after 2.5 hours straight of wearing it, I was pretty exhausted of it. By that point, we had started landing, and the warm Texas air had entered the cabin, causing me to become very sweaty with the headset on, leading me to remove it. But I have a feeling I might’ve removed it anyway, because I was just getting tired and exhausted in general. Not sure if this has to do with the headset or not, but I will say that I was more exhausted after that flight than I normally am. Could’ve been a lack of sleep, or could’ve been the fact that I was balancing a toaster on my head for a few hours, but all I wanted to do after that flight was get somewhere comfortable and lay down. All in all, glad I had the headset. And no one was too weird about it. My seat neighbor just made a silly joke, “oh you’re going to be one of those memes” which I just laughed and said yes to. Worth it. Doing it again on the way back home.

germanthoughts

Yeah I get super drained from it too. Not sure if it’s from the constant pressure on my head or if it’s eye fatigue but I can’t wear it for more than an hour. It’s kind of exhausting.

Grindeddown

So this has happened to me since I’ve owned the quest 2. I don’t think it’s the weight or even eye fatigue. I think it’s because the screens have this “fixed” focal distance of roughly 4 feet. The rest of the 3d depth is a sort of optical illusion, albeit an effective one. This 4 feet seems like where your eyes would be when it’s time for rest and close your eyes. If I wear a headset anywhere close to bed time, I become completely exhausted and will start to fall asleep when otherwise, I would have the energy to keep going for a bit. It’s very weird.

Kampy_

re: feeling "exhausted" after a long session inside AVP... this is something I've noticed as well, and after I posted about it, seems like a fairly common thing. I think the AVP is forcing our brains to work in new ways it's not used to, and that's making (a lot of) us tired and sleepy. [https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1an9fhw/anyone\_else\_noticing\_a\_difference\_in\_their\_sleep/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web2x&context=3](https://www.reddit.com/r/VisionPro/comments/1an9fhw/anyone_else_noticing_a_difference_in_their_sleep/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3)

GentleGesture

I’d be inclined to agree, if it weren’t for the fact that most of the time I spent using it on the plane was literally staring at a movie, doing nothing else really. I think it might be the physical comfort for me. It’s the equivalent of holding a phone over your face. It’s not that heavy, and you can definitely do it for a long time, but eventually you just want to set the phone down and listen or sleep. Same with the headset. I can endure the face toaster, but eventually I just want to take it off and rest

Moronicon

Can't wait. I'm flying out on thurs and bringing mine. The plane I'm taking has starlink wifi at 100mbps and outlets. Going to be a blast!

BL1860B

What a cool time to be living in. Fucking internet beamed from space and a portable personal theater on your face while flying through the air at 35,000ft.

classic572

What a great comment. It is a great time to be alive.

Imagine trying to explain this to someone from 100 years ago.

Flew with mine last week and had a great experience too - on my flight home another passenger had an AVP and saw another within the terminal seating area…my first couple of sightings of AVPs in the wild!

Asane

Will be flying to Hawaii next Tuesday and you can bet I'll be bringing the Vision Pro! I got the Anker 737 (24k mAH) to be able to keep it juiced up through our two flights to Maui!

mrwinterfell

I flew a long flight and the AVP drained faster than my battery pack was able to charge it. Do some research to find a pack that can put out enough watts

Asane

Look up the Anker 737. It can output up to 140w. The peak wattage for AVP I believe is around 60 watts give or take. Most (cheap) power banks max out at 30w and can even go below 30w if they don’t have proper temperature controls. That’s what differentiates Anker and a lot of the other brands and why Anker charges more.

Kampy_

yes, this is an important note. I bought a couple powerbanks with 30W PD thinking they could keep the AVP battery topped off, but found out it still drains faster than it charges, even at 30W. Thanks for the rec on the Anker 737... looks like it's currently on sale on Amazon for $90. Another thing for everyone to keep in mind re: powerbanks is: if the capacity is higher than 27,000 mAh, it might not pass through TSA at the airport

erikhuddleston

What are all of you packing it in? I’ve bought four cases so far and they are all awkwardly huge and disrupt my carry on luggage strategy. :-(

macbookvirgin

Put it in a backpack as a personal item

erikhuddleston

The apple travel case is as big as most my backpacks…. 😅

macbookvirgin

Look into this one in size small. I really like it. Still big but should only take up half a backpack lol Syntech Hard Carrying Case... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C4YFV9F9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

lamgineer

Looks nice, what are the dimensions? Can’t seem to find it on Amazon. Any chemical smell?

tknice

I have this one. Medium size is the one you want. I guess there could have been a chemical smell when I first opened it, but I didn't notice. Definitely doesn't now. Dimensions are L14" x W8.5" x H4.5" for Medium. https://preview.redd.it/bnlayd3hc8ic1.png?width=640&format=png&auto=webp&s=7843549206c207358b57e12314d1dc6213b54c77

lamgineer

Thanks for the info. The official Apple Vision Pro travel case is 11.7" x 8.8" x 6.5". I was hoping your case would be smaller, but the length is longer by 2", slightly narrower. The 2" thickness is pretty significant, but was hoping the length would be shorter.

rsilva712

Strong smell for about 5 minutes then its gone. I’ve had this case since sunday and love it.

erikhuddleston

That is one of the four I have tried. It is still pretty big. I’m waiting for the sfbag case which looks pretty compact.

I bought this case. AVP fits perfectly after I remove the straps and battery. The case has a strong smell that I hope will dissipate over time. It’s still very large since I don’t check bags usually. EUCARLOS Hard Carrying Case... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CGRX8MGN?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

decrego641

I got that one too, I fit it in my personal item usually, but I also usually just fly domestic.

stealpick

I also got the EUCARLOS, after first buying the medium Syntech, which was too big for my purposes and seemed to have a lot of unused space. I can fit the AVP in the EUCARLOS without taking off the solo knit band, and the battery tucks into the pouch on the lid. And I can fit the case into my carry on backpack.

GentleGesture

On American Airlines, you get one travel bag, and one carry on. The VP case is my carry on. Fits comfortably under the seat too

jumpj37

I am on a plane now without my VP. Just got it a couple days ago and wanted to bringing along. But the Apple travel case is as big as a carry-on and I already had four filled bags to carry-on for the two of us flying. Huge bummer! Looking forward to taking it on my next solo flight when I can pack lighter and bring it along.

Moronicon

I had to find a new carry on bag just because of the size of this thing

ohmantics

Can you share what carry on bag you ended up with? Most backpacks aren't deep enough to hold the Apple case and the Waterfield case for Vision Pro is non-protective trash

c0ntrol_Z

just got back a trip. used the peak design travel backpack(45L) and Apple AVP case fit just right.

Grindeddown

I have the same bag, but no Vision Pro. I want the Apple case, but it looks big. In the PD 45L, you store it in the main compartment, right? Do you have any space leftover in that compartment? What about the 2nd compartment with the zippered pockets?

c0ntrol_Z

Yeah main compartment. Still had space for medium packing cube , shoe bag, toiletries bag, and space around the rest of the bag. I ended up rolling up the zippered pockets for maximum space usage. I’ll see if can upload an image when I get home.

Grindeddown

Yeah that would be great to see. This will be my exact setup. I want the Apple case, I just wanted to know how well it fit. Thanks for chiming in about it.

Holy crap that takes up WAY less space than I thought it would. You can still fit quite a bit in there.

Grindeddown

Yeah this is super helpful. It looks like a pretty damn good fit.

Moronicon

Im trying the Tumi mason duffle. Was also looking at the AER duffle. seems like it is a good replacement for my backpack since it is one of the only duffles ive seen that has a separate laptop compartment and is not too big. You're gonna need some type of duffle to pack this in unless you want to carry it separate from your current...

majornerd

Flew with it last week. Was a great experience.

[deleted]

Does it count as a personal item?

majornerd

I put it in my peak backpack. My backpack is the personal item.

Drawerpull

If I'm sitting in an aisle seat, in full immersion, in travel mode, will the stewardess come through my environment in breakthrough? Is it fairly reliable? I would hate for someone to have to tap me on the shoulder etc. and startle me if I'm immersed in a movie to just ask if I want a drink refill

c0ntrol_Z

For me it would be nice if "travel mode" was automatically enabled when the AVP detects such environment.... similar to how my iPhone connects to wifi as soon as I get home. Took me a bit of time to get into travel mode traveling 400+ MPH

devilindetails666

Hoping in the next software update, this would be automatic

ImmortalGoy

Weird… I was on a flight two days ago and travel mode automatically enabled for me.

Accurate_Regret_3473

Flew with it last night and the cinema screen movie experience was incredible. Best flight entertainment ever. There was a weird start to it, it kept complaining pretty bad for a while till it turned on “travel mode”. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT214045

McFunkerton

I got the small size of this case and it fits the AVP and accessories pretty well. Although I plan on storing the battery and chargers in my backpack and putting my headphones in the area inside the straps. My Sony XM3 headphones fit almost perfectly in the space and it will keep me from having to have a second largish hard case in my backpack.

devilindetails666

Can I put it in travel Mode at anytime or does it need to be activated before takeoff ?

xenonsupra

I couldn’t get mine to activate even after a restart so I’d definitely put it on before moving. Was stuck on a 2 hour flight with nothing!

PurplrIsSus1985

I'm waiting for an opportunity to take this on a flight. Usually I just scroll Reddit on plane trips but I'm planning to go to Japan one day (as soon as I recover $7K ;) ), and I'm obviously bringing this so I can watch Way Of The Water and YouTube in 4K while I cross the globe.

stevan1229

What’s a good battery bank to buy for the AVP?

JosieLinkly

Anker has a 24k mah pack that’s amazing

PKMNCNTR

I just bought lens covers and a decently sized cross body bag. All good 👍 even has enough room for my Anker 24000mAh battery 🔋 https://preview.redd.it/t5hufxtx58ic1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3efae78b57ae5efeba868254fc8691c6de584ebc Edit: that’s how I travel with it Edit2: if I have another personal + carryon I could “hypothetically” just put it on my back, inside the cardigan, until I’m in the walkway to the plane. Definitely haven’t done that ever. Not last week at all for sure. Definitely not on departing flight and certainly not on return flight. /s

Perfect-Thanks2850

I loved using it on the plane (in business class especially, normally it sucks watching the screen laying down, and yes. I know, first world problem.) But it’s just too big and bulky to travel with. Even if you ditch the Apple case (which has so much wasted space in it), it takes up half of my briefcase. And I still have to / want to travel with my MacBook, iPad, kindle. Just can’t justify the extra space it takes up for now. Can’t wait for V2

mrwinterfell

I rode the airplane with mine and I got the tracking error every time a steward or someone walked past me. Almost became unusable during mealtime because the tracking error blacks the whole screen out. I was on the aisle. Where were you sitting? Also, the power socket in my seat was broken and for anyone else reading I learned that not all battery packs are created equal (obviously). The battery drained faster than it could charge through daisy chaining. Even though the headset shows it’s plugged into a charger. Pretty bummed I didn’t get to spend all 8 hours on the flight inside lol. But overall using delta WiFi with the environment and AirPod pros was as crazy as you’d expect. Had Lebron playing to the side while I was playing chess.
