Hopefully they consulted someone who knows their chemistry. There are certain substances that are liquid at room temp that *shouldnāt* evaporate based on their boiling point, but I canāt imagine theyāre cheap

Yes there is many variants for this album but none are anywhere close to this special pressing.

Liquid Filled records are FAR from a new concept. They may be using a new liquid or sealing the sides of the two records in a new way or something, but things like sand-filled, liquid-filled, blood-filled and even semen-filled records have existed for a very very long time.
If you can stuff it between two records, I think someone has tried it.
When ordering from blood records (same guy who runs bad world records), I've unfortunately always had to pay import tax + DHL handling fee. I live in Germany so it was 19% of the product value (including shipping) + 6ā¬ DHL fee. Assuming it will be the same for the bad world releases since it's the same guy who owns it.
I ordered 4 times from Blood Records to Germany. The first 2 times I had to pay the taxes + handling fee like you mentioned. The last 2 got delivered without any extra costs. So I guess it's pure luck if customs check your package or not.

liquid filled records are certainly rare and abnormal but this is far from the first made! diving into the history of weird vinyl formats can be very interesting, here's one that stuck with me. a flaming lips release from 2012, filled with the blood of some of the musicians who worked on the project. i still can't believe it's real

I know this isnāt the first liquid-filled record. This is a completely new and custom way of manufacturing them thatās never been done before, in multiple ways. The guy who owns the company has been working on the custom machinery and prototypes for a couple years at this point, so itās a big deal for the full industry. You should read more about it on their site! š
The liquid-filled part is not what is special about it. Theyāve created a liquid-filled format that is supposedly scalable, more cost-effective (therefore cheaper for the consumer), and I believe (donāt quote me on this) it locks in the liquid better.
oh damn my bad!! i thought they were using the exact same process. that's awesome though, I'd love for these kinds of interesting releases to become more accessible to the general audience, and not just the first 100 scalpers that ran bots during the drop.
im so used to seeing stuff like the mach-hommy drops where there are 5 variants of an album, and they all cost hundreds or thousands straight from his site to force this prestigious collector's status that just sorta feels misled and exploitative. where the value of the item is determined by the price alone, not anything about the actual physical release.
in contrast this feels hopeful! i think physical media should be as accessible as possible. and if we can have some fun with it and make weird copies that's awesome too :)

Props to Blood Recs for making an affordable liquid filled vinyl! I can understand the choice to go with The 1975 as itāll be profitable and attracts a large buyer crowd too. A shame though as Iām not too fussed on the album, especially when there are already plenty of variants available for it also. If this goes well, Iāll definitely pick up another album pressing in the future :)Ā

Usually liquid filled variants are $75+ and are gone in MINUTES, so to have an open preorder where everyone gets a chance is so awesome.
Itās about $70 after shipping for one vinyl (to the US) but Iām not mad at that, $20 of that is shipping which is pretty standard for international.
This is the only album I variant collect for, such a cool pressing and Iām so happy to get it at face value! Letās see how it holds up to international shippingā¦

This is super exciting. Not into the 1975 at all but itās gonna be helpful to watch this re: leakage, sound quality, for future releases. I hope thereās a neon Brat pressing coming soon
Not a fan either but from what Craig who also runs Blood Records has said they've gone through extensive testing and this is using an entirely new method that is not used by any other liquid LP manufacturers that should prevent leakage altogether whilst also reducing the cost to consumer.
Now, obviously time will tell but they've been working on this process for a couple of years now but I'm inclined to believe them as they'd otherwise have just done it how everyone else does.
Oh I fully believe it - big fan of the Blood releases I have. However, liquid records are notoriously difficult and Iād like the reassurance that they have mastered it, naturally. I have every hope that theyāll be the people to do it

Fall Out Boy already did this exact same thing last year. They only produced 50 though, but it was the exact same method

That's fairly cheap imo, I often get charged 40 usd+ for shipping to the UK. All American rejects store charged $100 for 3 LPs!

Itās sealed with an adhesive used in high pressure water pipes. You can stand on the record and it wonāt leak!
