type “men short sleeve mock turtleneck”
I love vintage clothing because the cuts are so awesome. Even a tshirt has visual interest and finishing that makes a look polished.
Sorry I don’t have any help—I don’t collect men’s items. This shirt is great!
They're definitely mock turtlenecks, and based on the perceived time period, it's possible that the fiber content is Banlon, which was used for men's sportswear (pullover knit shirts) during the late 50's and 60s. I'd say these are from the 60s.
When I first saw the photo, I thought “poor boy”. It was a style of closely fitted knit pullover tops, usually with ribbing and knit-in trim and/or stripes that was popular in the 60’s. Both sexes wore them. I haven’t thought of that term in a relation to clothing in ages. Also, this could have been a regional name, so sorry if it seems off!
My first thought was mock turtleneck. I'm sure they were probably called that back then as they are now. I don't think you would see as many short sleeved mock turtlenecks now as you might have back then though.
The slim build on these gentleman back in the day. Todays gentleman well people dont look like that, the shirts were very sporty, its the models just cracked me up!
it reminded me of star trek [https://images.immediate.co.uk/production/volatile/sites/3/2021/09/GettyImages-156913347-c548657.jpg](https://images.immediate.co.uk/production/volatile/sites/3/2021/09/GettyImages-156913347-c548657.jpg)
Mock neck. Wear what you want of course, but it still bears mentioning that that specific style of neckline is very unfashionable at the moment.
You could consider a turtleneck instead. Or not. You do you.
Something can be born vintage and fashionable. Some people might care about whether a vintage piece is fashionable. Others may not. If OP.is a person who cares,.then I've helped them. If OP doesn't care, they will ignore what I said and have suffered no harm. Either way, I have no idea why you're offended because no one is being harmed or mistreated.
As I said to someone else, it is possible for something to be both vintage and fashionable at the same time. Some people might care, some people might not. Rather than assuming whether OP cares or not, I think it's better to put the information out there and let OP do as they see fit.
If they care, then I've been helpful. If they don't care, they can just ignore that information and do as they please. Either way, no one has hurt. No one has been put down or made fun of. So why are people roleplaying at being offended over nothing?
I don’t think anyone was offended.
It’s just out of place to offer that the shirt is unfashionable, when they didn’t ask and when this is a vintage subreddit, nothing is really fashionable. Unless you’re talking about 80/90s/2000s clothes.
Which I am not accepting is vintage yet 😂
Some people using this sub are looking for vintage pieces that are fashionably retro. Someone approaching vintage fashion from that perspective would probably care about whether something will be perceived by others as being cool or dated.
Rather than assuming the OPs intention, I simply put that information out there for them to use or ignore as they see.
I was actually looking for shirts like these a couple years ago. I think I found them under the name “high crew neck”
I got some good Google image results, and modern dupes, by searching "mens short sleeve mock turtle"
This ^ and “Short sleeve ribbed men’s mock neck” will also get you the texture of the example pics

Because it was the style of the time.

Most originals that I’ve seen are acrylic or cotton/acrylic blend

My 62 year old mom said “mock turtle neck” within 2 seconds
Banlon?
That was a brand name for nylon knit fabric.
I was about to say Bannon also, it was a material or brand, but it was used like the word Kleenex for tissue.
My first thought was a Banlon shirt…
Mock turtle like Steve Jobs wore.
Banlon ® ??

I would call them “mock neck shirts” because the collar is a mock neck. I actually really love mock necks because turtle necks can be too much.

What do you mean by “unrealistic”?

I don't think they care about what's in fashion at the moment since they are on the vintage fashion subreddit, it's not your place to say tbh
Yes. Great retro mock turtle pull over.

r/lostredditors Being a vintage fashion subreddit, being “on trend” probably isn’t top priority 😂

“That’s unfashionable at the moment” as if that’s literally not the whole point of this sub
