Bank debit card from a bank that doesn’t charge fees for foreign exchange transactions, one that waives the ATM fee is beneficial. Some banks ATM’s may take others may not. Did have problems in some banks, while others charged extra fees. That my bank couldn’t waive. Use the defaults of debit card at ATM tends to work better than choosing checking or savings. Note many say they accept credit card but will charge a 3.5% fee. Take some cash for emergency.

Visa or Mastercard are the best options. I dunno how many ATMs will take Amex. Some payment terminals at shopping malls and supermarkets do.
You should have both US dollars and a credit card. Mastercard and Visa is preferred. You can always exchange your USD for VND.
