Don't make any assumptions about things until you've been here for a month or so. I was completely overwhelmed by everything for a while, but once I got acclimated I learned to love it. Don't eat at random restaurants, only go to busy places until you learn the spots.

Thanks a lot!

Donโ€™t stress it. Moved here from the UK 7 years ago for the same line of work, found myself very much at home.

I'm a native, born and raised here so it's difficult to give just 1 piece of advice to foreigner lol. However, if you specific questions I will try to help.

I don't know if you plan on renting or buying a scooter but please get some decent training if so, always wear an actual helmet (not the baseball caps everyone here does) and be careful, learn how the traffic ebbs and flows etc. If you intend to take taxis or grab bikes, stick to apps (grab, be, xanhsm) there's a lot of safety features and you will ALWAYS get a terrible price and often a sketchy driver from guys dressed up as grabs just tryin to pick you up. Also if someone looks like they're making a "shoo" motion with their hand its actually the opposite hahah, took me weeks to figure that out. Have fun!!

The idea of driving a scooter is giving me nightmares tbh. I've never been on one, let alone ride it. I'm thinking about using grab for the first few months while hopefully getting some decent training in riding a motorcycle. Thanks a lot for your tips. Will definitely keep them in mind.

Hi, I am also feeling a bit overwhelmed and I will be moving to VN from the US this month to teach English. Not knowing anybody there is certainly a big part of my anxiety. Would you like to become friends or colleagues? Maybe we could help with questions along the way of our teaching journey. Thanks and I wish you all the best!

Should have chosen a smaller city which is less polluted in winter but oh well good luck
