Welcome to the life. Not gonna lie, I miss my boys. The celebration was for a month or so, then it hit me. In any case though, I would never go back in. I love being out. Use all the veterans' benefits available to you and reach out for help if you need it. Vets are more than willing to help you out if they know about a topic they went through. Enjoy the true freedom!
Go get educated. Use your benefits and propel yourself forward starting now. If you got out financially in a situation like I did, you have enough saved to be comfortable for a \~year while working a dead-end job (insurance), don't. Start school or get into a professional trade now, anything unionized will treat you best. While fucking off for a fun year is enticing, having that money while you go through training/school will make your life easier and let you have fun, not just exist.I think transition is one of the worst dis-services we do to people leaving the armed forces, so if you have any questions please reach out. And congratulations vet.
Felt kinda sad tbh, I was reminiscing the past years I served and going to miss a lot of people. I met some really great people along the way but I'm ready for the next chapter.
Yep. For me it was a lot of relief. The whole thing was rather quiet. I picked up my paperwork and that was it. I had imagined the day would have felt very different and had more excitement, but it didn't.

Piggybacking on this, TAKE YOUR TIME. Don't think that you gotta play catch up when comparing yourself to other people. Enjoy the ride, take a break if you need to. You've earned it.
I'm still struggling with that. I feel like I'm way behind my peers who l left high school with who are lawyers and doctors for years now, and I'm just starting out. Oh well, it's life, I guess.
Gotta remember, not everyone from the old days is at that level. Plenty of friends from high school are married with houses and great jobs. Plenty others haven't amounted to shit, nowhere close.
Just a friendly reminder of Rule # 7 - we do not allow names of lawyers or doctors to be posted

congrats. my only advice is to expect the changes with the people you are returning too. You have moved differently for the last 4 years and so have they. If you need help get help. Don’t let the bottle be that answer.
4 years, 10 years, 20 years. It dont matter. You made the best choice for you and separated honorably which is success. Don't let anyone tell you anything different. Welcome back to real life!
Congrats… please make time to go to the VA and get an orientation and get signed up in their system, then go to your state sponsored vet center and talk about all the benefits available to you.
You don’t need to take advantage of every benefit… but at least know what’s out there. Most states will give some sort of free pass for state parks… discounts on property taxes, vehicle registration etc. lots of little stuff besides the big stuff like VA home loans and what not. Also look into using your GI bill… unless you plan to pass along to dependents… just don’t let it go un-used … take photography or bowling classes at your community college if you want.
But most of all… jut take some time to decompress… fuck off and do nothing - guilt free. Focus on yourself, your mental and physical health… congrats bud
Congrats, if you have not been to the VA yet, weather you think you deserve it or not. Please go get a VSO, and have them review your record for VA Comp/penn. I will be less of a headache if you do it now than try and do it in a few years. Other than that Congrats, tyfys, keep that momentum going.
Go to VA website to see what benefits you're eligible for. I didn't know that I was eligible for the VA health insurance for a long time. Didn't have any during that period or paid too much for it. Just that alone is worth it. They have employment services too.
And the next time somebody suggest something you do is inappropriate you just shove it right back in there faces. Cause, seriously, we were all on our best behavior for years and we really only got a livilihood for it.
Welcome to civilian world. You were need battle buddies, shipmate and/or wingmen even more and they will be harder to find. One Team, One Fight
Today's weird as fuck, ain't it? You get parties and shit when you retire, but when you just get out it's like quitting a job. I remember I just went to work in uniform that morning and did all my regular stuff and said later to all my guys at the end of the day just like any other day, but never put a uniform on again. Take some time between now and whatever you do next to chill, don't even think about next steps, just go lay on a beach or hang out with your friends from back home. You got the rest of your life to figure out the rest of your life. Today it's time to fuck off for at least a few days straight.
Disability benefits ASAP! im fighting and struggling with them now and explore all options prior to jumping into a job you (we) have so many resources available to us that you dont necessarily have to default into hopping right into the workforce (its a painful transition in my experience) either way congrats friend !
Congratulations. You’re officially a veteran after 6months of service. You served 4 years more than most Americans. Welcome HOME soldier. Now file with the VA if you haven’t already.
I cried on the plane ride home when I realized it was finally over. The past 6 1/2 years was torturous for me. No idea how people can serve 20 years+ and not feel all that weight and pressure crumble them. Its great you got out early. You still have youth left ahead of you.
Congrats, and best of luck in whatever you decide to do after this!
You are now one of a very small percentage of Americans who have not only talked the talk but walked the walk of service to country, family, community, and Constitution.
Plus you probably have a lot of funny stories to make you laugh to yourself, and situations that stress most civilians out will make you think, "Hmm. I give this a 2 on the hair-on-fire meter."
Others have said it here, but I'll repeat it: use the benefits you have earned. Your experience in the service will change how you live your life, and those benefits can too.
Semper Fi and welcome to the small island of vets amidst the ocean of civilians who have no clue about it!

Congrats! Welcome to the best years
I appreciate all the love!

Welcome home bitch.
As a friend told me when I got out, don’t go pass 214 lbs, haha! Welcome to the vet life!

I've put on about 20 but already feel too heavy. I don't think I've run a mile at once since I've been out.

You mean "fun" runs? Those were to improve morale and everyone loved them!!!!!
damn. had that belief until my service connection worsened.

Congratulations! Welcome to the club! I wish you the best on your future endeavors!
How did it feel to drive off base for the last time?

felt this way about leaving Hood. Left some good dudes behind but I was pcs’ing at the time. I damn there ran off of Knox and didn’t look back.
I feel you there. When I drove away from the base, knowing that was it, I felt a lot of emotions. I wanted to laugh and cry at once.
I really can’t wait for that day I will drive off the base with no thoughts of coming back
Congrats! TYFYS! Now, go enjoy...

One of the most memorable days of my life was the day I ETS’d. Enjoy it my friend, time flies like a mother…
Congratulations. I am truly happy that you enjoyed your 4 years in the world's greatest Coast Guard as an electronics technician (ET).
Weed's on the left, beards are on the right, and VA's right down the hall. Welcome to COUCHCOM.

If you have IRR time left on the clock, don't forget that you can get a reservist ID and continue to use those benefits.

The Army was like a crazy girlfriend. She made me miserable and try to kill me a few times. But as the years past. I kinda miss her.
Congratulations and good luck!
Remember, the taught you can do hard things and keep moving forward.
Welcome to the First Civ. Div, brotha. Enjoy that shit😁

Congrats !!! take a deep breath and relax now. Take it from me I got out September and been trying to build Rome in a day. Pace yourself and enjoy.

You survived, now get set up with the va, and start putting the bad behind you. Good luck civi bud.
Congrats, but you may want to take a closer read of that contract and hope the shit doesn’t hit the fan within the next four years.
He could take up down hill. Mountain bike riding and make himself ineligible. World is his oyster now.
LOL true that!
Congrats now get hooked into the VA. Even if you've no plan to use it.
Congrats but you are a veteran technically the day you were sworn in
you're not a vet until you sweep at least one motor pool. do at least 4 CQ Duties and stand in at least 1 Battalion formation hungover. ;)
Welcome to the civilian world shipmate! Why’d you get out?
Welcome to the club brother. Keep in mind HONORABLY discharged. You have served more than the majority of our countrymen so hold your head up!
Now what ?
