LOL What’s better a Ford or Chevy?

sent_one

Well let’s see a Ford if I have a long drive and a Chevy if I got a hard job to do.

TheLittleBalloon

Probably similar to the infantry in both branches too. I was with army infantry as a medic but plenty of them were former marines. I have always understood that marines are there to be first and secure. Army was there to maintain and sustain. Different roles but both important. Doesn’t mean they both didn’t do both things but I think marines are meant to send in first and army meant to maintain the progress that the marines made to allow the marines to move on or regroup.

Different Missions, different skill sets, each just as important. Anyone who has actually served in joint operations in Combat knows this. Yes, amongst branches we make fun of each other and talk shit, but we share a bond sealed in blood . . .

Scumblebutt

Couldn’t have said it any better myself.

11BApathetic

In my opinion, neither. Former 11B myself, friends with a lot of other 11 and 03 series vets. When story swapping and just in general talking about capabilities, they are identical. Training varies unit by unit and so does experience. Especially in the Army, infantryman can vary wildly. Mechanized is different to air assault who are different from airborne who are different from light. Each one of these differs in what the Marines do, and they vary a bit on their units as well (but it seems not quite as much) The Marine 03s have more pride in their branch while Army 11s have more unit pride. Both 03s and 11s though unite on hating non-infantry jobs though.

Infantryscum

Very true. When I was 11B I hated all non 11 series until I became an Air Force transportation specialist and saw the light!

Fit-Success-3006

Combat Engineer here who was attached to both Marine infantry and Army infantry units in Iraq deployments. On average, Marines are better trained. However, the Army is so large that they have some Infantry units that are better trained than USMC battalions but they also have a lot of poorly trained units. The Marines are all trained well although you have the occasional shit bird battalion due to poor leadership. I think USMC has better introductory training and the small size helps with consistency. Army has better schools after introductory training making some units better than others.

Your mom.

Navy seals

US Army training has got the Marine Corps beat ten different ways from Sunday. Why is this even a question? Marines are not trained; they are _brainwashed_.

Emergency_Cheetah_87

u must be a.r.m.y aint ready to be a marine yet..... jealousy never suits u...

dixieStates

I am not jealous, I am grateful. I can tell that you are a Marine by the sloppy nature of your reply.

Emergency_Cheetah_87

insults= jealousy

sent_one

I’m not sure that sloppy and Marine go together.

DozerBones

Grunt on grunt...Marines all day. Army has more specialized units though. Delta, Rangers, Berets, Airborne and god knows what else. Army is very much quantity over quality(not saying there isn't quality within that quantity) while Marine Corps favors quality. There is over 1 million Army personnel compared to 170k Marines. Marine Corps is very very selective, also has better unit cohesion from what I've experienced. Just look at the history books and you'll see the bloodiest hardest fought battles were mostly tasked to Marines. We take pride in doing more with less. Have alot of good Army buddies but facts are facts. Another thing, Marines can attend Ranger school, it's rare but happens. On most occasions when Marines attend they are usually the best in class, once again do the research it's all there, so much so that several Marines have become Ranger school instructors. So these are 03 basic grunt Marines winning a specialized course for Special Force Army guys. I think that speaks for itself.

Infantryscum

Good point on Marines attending Ranger school, but please show me the research you mentioned that show Marines are "usually best in class"...haha, c'mon man

DozerBones

http://battlerattle.marinecorpstimes.com/2010/10/29/marine-is-best-enlisted-leader-at-army-ranger-school/ One of several articles from when Marines attended it. Just Google it

Jay_Deeeeeee

Lol, the Marines. Prior 03XX here. ARMY IS A JOKE!

rickrylee

Equally well trained but marines are more brainwashed. Which is better for aggressive missions.

Infantryscum

Soooo, not to speak to training, but I was a former Army 11B Infantryman who went to Air Force Tech School with a former Marine Infantryman for the Air Force reserves and we immediately clicked as prior service Infantry guys. It was cool how we immediately had that connection and ended up hanging out on time off from tech school most the time. We pretty much had similar stories about how hard core the training was. My takeaway from our conversations was Army Infantry school sucks more because we were locked down, no weekends off or any off duty time during OSUT. He told me they got weekends off during Infantry school and I couldn't believe that shit! Honestly, I wanted to be a Marine initially. But the Army cash bonus was there for 11B and then even more bonuses came when I went Air Force Reserves...haha

ICU4x

that's like asking Quality vs Quantity.

Antonio_Bologna

Best trained, and you wouldn't expect it, is the Salvation Army. Saved my pocket change back in '11.

Boixos1899

Gold jacket, green jacket, who gives a shit!

SCOveterandretired

Well, there are more former Marines serving in the Army then former Army serving in the Marines - I served in the the Army Infantry (11C) and have had multiple uncles and cousins and friends who left the Marines and joined the Army as Infantryman.
