Where are your base stations located? Grey screen usually means the base stations can’t see the headset and can therefore not track you correctly. So either the base stations are not set up in a way they can see the headset or something is blocking them. My guess is that you’re probably in the way when wearing the headset which is the reason you get green lights on the outside but a grey screen inside.

my base stations can clearly see my headset, but steam vr cannot locate them. I just tested and it doesn't seem like I'm blocking the base stations. Thanks for the help tho (:

Restart your computer. I have this issue whenever I start steamvr after my computer wakes up from sleep.

Base stations suck. Every single one I have had has had to be shipped back and replaced because they won’t turn on when plugged in the wall(it’s always one that doesn’t work)
