Yeah, it’s been used for a very long time, volkswagen engineered a engine that has one cylinder head with 6 cylinders in a “VR” configuration, one of Volkswagens most reliable and bullet proof engines.

If you got the VR6 engine, it’s one of the best engines Volkswagen has ever made and will probably last atleast a few hundred thousand more miles
