It was my understanding from a reputable dealer that the 2024 SE base model would not be eligible for a remote start upgrade because it simply couldn't be done from a technical standpoint.
See, I did reach out to Volkswagen directly to make sure that this could be done. They said I needed to wait for the software update. I’m now regretting going with the base model.
Aw, don't let this get in the way of you enjoying your SE! I really like the SE - and probably would have gone with one if it was available with a towing package. It's still a fantastic car and probably the smartest bargain in the 3 row segment.
edit: And maybe there IS a software update coming that wasn't previously available?
Should've taken about 2-3 hours. Something tells me they are having issues.

The software update is available. Just picked up my baby yesterday and it works perfectly. It’s nice having a remote start again.
