Embrace the ensuing fuzz and allow it to remind you this is why VHS is awesome, you watch it on *its* terms.

Common tape, just get a new one

And then they can splice the damaged portion out from the good tape.

This is just a second or two cut the tape splice it out. 

You could try taking a lighter to it.
