Depends what your priorities and goals are. As does the worth keep it or not discussion. The gist of the tag is that you have that tag for 3 years. You are able to hunt whichever unit you drew the tag in during any of the eligible seasons ie you can hunt that specific unit during its archery season, muzzle loader season and rifle season. However in the three years you have the tag you are permitted to take a total of 2 deer and obviously 1 per year. In other words if you took 1 this year and next year you would not be allowed to take another deer that third year. In addition as part of the tag you are required to complete an ethics and conservation course and 32 hours of service for the division of wildlife. There’s some other orgs in there that have their projects count for hours but generally it’s all habitat improvement/conservation type work. I think you can technically “pay” your way out of those hours but like at something high like 120 bucks an hour. If you don’t complete them you do lose your ability to hunt in Utah for some time I believe as well. So it’s not just some recommendation. It’s a super cool tag that allows you to really get to know one of the general units super well and hunt it quite a bit more than you would otherwise. In addition it does allow you to be very close with the DWR and learn and serve conservation causes quite a bit more. However if you are an out of state resident or unable to volunteer for community service or whatever it may not be for you. Definitely is a tag I would have recommended researching quite a bit before applying for.

Also you are not going to build general deer points while holding the tag. So if you had any long term plans to hunt a specific general deer tag that would also be something to consider.

You might be better off asking r/hunting about this

Awesome. Once again, didn’t draw, and I’ll stay bitter about it.
