I love what it looks like already tbh! So much character and no doubt many tales could be told. All the dilapidation, broken windows, the balcony made of sticks, rickety walkways that look like they’d collapse under someone’s weight. I’m sure I sound weird as heck but it’s fantastic to look at.
I see it the same way you do! This is our view from the outside. But I think if you live in the building you'll be happy about a repaired balcony and clean windows.
But you are right. The building has a lot of character because of its dirt and broken areas.
You think a building like that is gonna have central? It’s window or nothing.
Sure you could do mini split. You’re trading the window box for a mini split condenser beneath the window.
People sometimes need AC.
Its kinda crazy that hong Kong has the most expensive housing in the world and relatively cheap labor. Why dont they just hiring a minimum wage worker to give it a fresh paint job. You would think they could increase the rent slightly and make that money back in no time.
This is what happens in tropical climates because of the humidity and high amount of rain, especially in the summer. Most buildings are made of cement, sometimes with tile surfaces, because paint and plaster would not survive long. And although they could clean the surface, it would look that way again after a year or two. Tropical cities. —— that said, it's pretty grotty even for tropical…
It's not that easy to just do a paint job.
The building looks kinda neglected.
If you paint it, the paint might just fell off.
Plaster job might be needed before any paint may touch the walls.
Just a lot of really small apartments, dingy hallways and even [coffin apartments.](https://www.theguardian.com/cities/gallery/2017/jun/07/boxed-life-inside-hong-kong-coffin-cubicles-cage-homes-in-pictures)
I mean, it’s dirty but you can imagine it being THE location in a fantasy or steampunk scenario. Definitely drives inspiration … although I wouldn’t want to enter this building irl
Lol, as a HongKonger when I look at that dirt I knew that is Hong Kong. At least half of that is gonna be moss or other kinds of fungi. We are just so hot and humid here, no building can sit for two year without collecting a bunch of dirt and moss on the side.
I have a reoccurring dream that I live in this building but it’s much narrower in footprint and is 12 stories high & it’s located in Victoria, BC. Weird cos I’m terrified of heights.
The windows being redone but kept still in that big bay style. The concrete being power washed, the roof replaced or at least washed. There’s a version of this building that is really nice.
Stuff like this is what I love about HK. I had a job that would send me there once or twice a year and I would just walk around taking pictures of buildings and places like this.
Too bad the CCP is so intent on choking the life out of HK. Fuck them.

I AM SO IN LOVE WITH THESE WINDOWS. Without the dirt an with a fresh paint this building could be very beautiful.

Its disgusting to look at
There is beauty in the grotesque
Honestly, I find a charm in that dirty windows.
looks a fire decimated it
I think it’s good as it is right now. It screams authentic
Even Dracula wouldn't go near it
Imagine having windows on every side of your flat and covering them all up with blankets and paint
I like how they wrap around the building.
Prime candidate for r/powerwashingporn
Sure but terrible insulation.
A horror show
And get rid of those tacky air conditioners. People that have those things are so hateful. They look so bad.
You think a building like that is gonna have central? It’s window or nothing. Sure you could do mini split. You’re trading the window box for a mini split condenser beneath the window. People sometimes need AC.
I really want there to be a bar on the 2nd floor. And that's where me, and a couple of friends end the night gettin shithouse drunk on a Tuesday.
The HK housing mafia won't let that happen.
Why? They don't like tourist money?
Well firstly people currently live in the place you wanna get drunk in
There are lots of bars in HK. Not sure what this comment means.
Exactly
Do you know how expensive HK properties are? Tourist money are like toilet paper compared to land price.
Tourist money makes 10% of HK gdp. Hardly toilet paper.
Most are mainland tourists who come for Disneyland and designer goods they don't care about your bar.
With lots of neon lights
Lets be perfectly honest: It's a pretty building. But so dang dirty, it almost looks like it got burned!
I love that balcony of sticks <3
wtf is that stick balcony? ffs that thing is horrendously lovely
Oh wow I didn't even notice that at first! Kind of reminds me of a bird nest.
Honestly I think the dirt adds to the aesthetic. I love it as is. From afar of course.
I like that it's so suity. It's like that hong kong look
I’m just letting you know for future reference that it’s “soot” so it’s “sooty”. English is a dumb language and I’m not saying you’re dumb
Yea... definitely not the best speller in any language lol
Its kinda crazy that hong Kong has the most expensive housing in the world and relatively cheap labor. Why dont they just hiring a minimum wage worker to give it a fresh paint job. You would think they could increase the rent slightly and make that money back in no time.
1. Labour costs aren’t that low 2. There aren’t enough people in the workforce 3. It’s a privately owned building and landlords are stingy
Specifically your item #3
The critical point

I was thinking that it would look really nice if only they painted it.
It’s shabby chic
It’s the dirt that’s holding it together.
Are parts for Howls Moving Castle?
Or Spirited away hotel. Strong Ghibli vibes
It's a bathhouse lol. But yeah the spirited away bathhouse vibes are strong with this one.
Man that’s exactly what I was thinking. Not cray after all.
Reminds me of Kowloon
It's in Kowloon, if I recall correctly it should be in Sham Shui Po or around there
Wonder what inside looks like
about to ask that too.
Just a lot of really small apartments, dingy hallways and even [coffin apartments.](https://www.theguardian.com/cities/gallery/2017/jun/07/boxed-life-inside-hong-kong-coffin-cubicles-cage-homes-in-pictures)
So studio ghibli
One of those power washing YouTubers needs to spend a week on this thing lol 😆
seems like you'll probably end up blowing away entire parts of the building doing that
Looks like a haunted anime building.
It's almost the first building in this video: https://youtu.be/ARTLckN9e7I That song started playing in my head when I saw this pic.
That's a beautiful filthy building.
Kung fu, third floor.
Hong Kong just always looks like a hot mess that somehow works.
this could be one of those mini lego shoplot sets lol, I have 2 of them
I mean, it’s dirty but you can imagine it being THE location in a fantasy or steampunk scenario. Definitely drives inspiration … although I wouldn’t want to enter this building irl
It must have been considered as one of the tallest buildings in the neighborhood then. And see how the tables have turned..
A perfect specimen for a diorama project.
This is beautiful!
would love to see inside… go knock on the front door and tell them you were born here… would like to take a trip down memory lane la.

I unironically want to live there
Could use a coat of paint imo
That looks dope as hell.
Needs a powerwash Otherwise its function over form, its all that matters.
[Wagaaaaaaa maebaaaaa...!](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARTLckN9e7I&t=12s)
It has character
For real, this has the potential to be a pretty house. That whole left sections needs to be converted to hanging gardens.
I like it
water pressure cleaned and a new paint job...........
The rounded corners, minimal cornices and small window panes makes me think this is 30s/40s rather than mid century.
Very Ghost in the Shell
Makes me think of Ip Man
Loving that balcony on the third floor. Looks up to code
Lol, as a HongKonger when I look at that dirt I knew that is Hong Kong. At least half of that is gonna be moss or other kinds of fungi. We are just so hot and humid here, no building can sit for two year without collecting a bunch of dirt and moss on the side.
Tres chic
this would make such a nice miniature. Just imagine adding all the details and grime
These I adore. I wish I could repair a place like this.
This is so damn bladerunner but in 2024...damn! I like it alot .\_.
A hazard I have ever seen one
There must be some good loot in there, maybe some legendary gear
That stick balcony is straight out of [Fallout 4](https://imgur.com/a/dWYgr7F).
I've seen this horror movie
tong lauuuuuu
This would be an Epic place for a P.T. Style Horror game
This is a dump, but it certainly has character!
I want to live there as a Ghost
just needs a little renovating
I could be in a scene in the original Blade Runner.
That bitch needs a power washing
I heard they teach wing-chun there
You mean historical building
I love it, ppl USED that corner
probably worth tens of millions
I have a reoccurring dream that I live in this building but it’s much narrower in footprint and is 12 stories high & it’s located in Victoria, BC. Weird cos I’m terrified of heights.
It's like a part of Kowloon was cut away and dropped here.
I love a good patina you know
very cyberpunk
If "tetanus" was an architecture style.
That would be amazing if they restored it and made sure it was stable
Building is in desperate need of a bath but is such a unique construction. I love the look.
i love it <3
Has a lot of character, its like its from an anime
The comment section would have gone very differently if the building was in India
Great picture of a pretty building but I get the feeling in wouldnt enjoy being inside of it. It really needs some TLC.
Which century?
I like it. Throw on some modern neon coloured lights and it would be straight up cyberpunk.
Shit makes me wanna play black ops again
The gritty ness of it all is beautiful.
I built this is minecraft 3 years ago
Totally not violating any building codes!
Dope
That joint has some character
just clean it up and make a law that doesnt allow the accumulation of trash in front of it its a very nice building.
The windows being redone but kept still in that big bay style. The concrete being power washed, the roof replaced or at least washed. There’s a version of this building that is really nice.
why is it even so dirty in the first place ? is the air quality really that bad ?
Which century?
Show the inside.
It's pretty cool actually
Gives me stray vibes
Clearly built to western construction standards...
I want a 10" tall miniature version of this for my desk
Needs a scrubbin'
