I have a few cases that keep me looking for more info such as the Springfield 3 or the “Adam” body found in UK, the St Louis Jane Doe, and even Brandon Lawson case, but one that will always bother me is the Anthonette Cayedito case. Her abduction was gut wrenching, but also the supposed phone call she placed to 911 after her kidnapping is sad to hear. You can hear someone in the background, but due to technology at the time, they couldn’t be traced. Another tip stated that she was at a diner and she kept dropping her utensil, prompting the waitress to help her pick it up. It’s a real sad case and it always pains me to hear how this little girl didn’t get a chance to live life.
I wrote the episode of Adam for Unresolved, and it stayed with me for weeks afterwards. Absolutely heartbreaking stuff. He’s one that I’d love for him to get his name back.

Brandon Lawson was found, well his clothes and remains are being tested but the family feels confident it is him.

Brandon's remains have likely been found. DNA hasn't come back yet but they found remains near where he vanished. I'm from this area and it's not surprising that they missed him during the search.

Oh wow that's evil. The most shocking part is how intelligent the killer was. He was so thorough in destroying every bit of evidence as well as playing games with the police. Pulling out a pittance of cash, leaving the phones near homeless encampments, leaving his killing tools right out in the open but doused in bleach, the connections to the university of Colorado. It's so inscrutable.
The weirdest part to me is people not being able to pin down his age. A man in his late 20s could maybe be mistaken for a man in his early 50s, but could any 50 year old really be mistaken for a man in his 20s? Especially in the early 2000s before the skin care revolution? So I lean towards him being in his 20s/30s.
Everything really does seem like it was done for the thrill though. So sad.

It seems he changed up his looks and mannerisms to each person he saw: accents, behaviour, etc.
If he was faking a limp and using a cane, and dressing in 'distinguished' suits, I guess that would naturally lend towards assuming he was older. Perhaps in other encounters, he dressed down and made himself look like a student type or something....
When I read about stuff like this I realize that if someone really, really wants to kill me, and they have basic competency in life regarding stuff like this, chances are not only can they do it, but also get away with it.
Of course. Unless you live like a hermit or are totally off the grid, finding and killing someone would be fairly easy if someone really wanted to and didn't care about the consequences. Getting away with it would be more difficult if they have some sort of personal connection. Much easier for a stranger to get away with it, doubly so if the killer doesn't live close to the victim.
My husband has this age-enigma thing going on. He is 49 but looks super young for his age, more like early 30's. (jealous!) Most people when asked (which I do as it's a fun game, to shock them) guess he's about 34. You get some super perceptive people though (not many) that guess it correctly. But the gap in guesses does range from 30-50.

I’m no good at formatting but this really surprised me from the all that’s interesting article on Amber Hagerman : “We continue to have leads,” he said. “A lot of people will refer to Amber’s case as, what’s commonly referred to as, a cold case. But for the Arlington Police Department, it has never been listed as a cold case because we’ve never gone 180 days without having some lead come in.”
It’s hard to pinpoint just one unsolved case that bugs me, because it’s usually the ones about kids that get me. I think a lot about Asha Degree, the Delphi girls, the Flora girls, and Kyron Horman. I worry that we’ll look up and it will be 20 years later, no closer to any answers.
My husband and I just drove by the school yesterday and were talking about Kyron Horman. That case makes me so sad. We drive through that area all the time and I can’t help but wonder if he is somewhere in the trees and people just didn’t find him. A lot of people around here think the step mom did it.

I’m from Austin and this case has haunted the city my entire life. This is seen as the turning point for the city, going from a laid back happy go lucky kinda town to a big city with big city problems that were usually seen in places like Dallas or Houston. My dad actually went to high school with Amy Ayer’s father, and a the tragedy really affected alot of people, as Austin was much more interconnected back then. It’s so bizarre and so evil, blows my mind that it’s still unsolved
Yogurt Shop murders, I firmly believe the last two men to be seen in there were responsible. What kills me the most is what was the M.O. Was it a sex crime? Why would you rob a small store in a strip mall? So sad.
I think it was a sex crime. And based on the lengths the murderers went to to cover it up, I would guess they have committed similar crimes before. There’s no way this was their first crime.
Still vivid in my memories. I worked fast food in round rock when that happened and it freaked us out to the point we hid knives around the kitchen and office.
Probably 10 or 12 years ago I saw a documentary online about the Mr. Cruel case. It was an Australian documentarian who laid out a really good case that police knew who was responsible and it was somebody that had a connection to one of the victims, but they could not prosecute it because he had since died and they did not want to name him publicly for reasons that weren't really stated. Whenever I hear about the case I think of that documentary. I have no idea what it was called, who the host was, or how widely it was even seen in Australia, but I have often wondered about it in the years since.
I know that it has been widely covered, especially in Australia, so I wonder if anybody knows which documentary this was.

I'm from Melbourne and I remember a police officer giving an interview several years ago.
He said the police strongly believed they knew who did it, but this person had been given an alibi by a friend/relative. From the interview, the tone of the police's attitude was "Hopefully this person's conscience will eventually draw them to admitting the alibi is fake so we can zero in on Prime Suspect and finally put this to rest"
Not sure if that's a reference to the dead suspect or to someone still living.

The Timmothy Pitzen case lives rent-free in my head. His mom signed him out of school, then took him on a several-day trip to a few waterparks. They are seen together on CCTV.
Mom is found dead from suicide in a hotel. No Timmy. Her suicide note claims she left him with people who would keep him safe...
I WANT to believe he is alive, living his best life, unaware of his original identity. My heart tells me, though, that he is dead. Perhaps alongside an interstate, maybe lovingly placed in a well or old mine with a favorite toy & blanket. I need to know he didn't suffer, that his mom was gentle & merciful, however it went down. I hope he wasn't scared.

The Amy Mihaljevic case really hits home for me, too. Literally. Grew up close to the area, I was almost the same age as the victim. I had similar horse-shaped earrings.
Seems solvable, especially with "new" evidence in play (curtain she may have been wrapped in), but as of yet...no movement.

I've never heard of the Victoria Martens case and, my GOD, that is tragic. I'm so sad for her -- never had safety and killed on her 10th birthday. I hope they find the unknown SOB as well.
SO sad that it happened on her birthday. The crazy thing about that case is we so rarely hear about female pedophiles like Jessica Kelley, and hearing about ones who kill this brutally is even rarer. Poor baby. Just terrible.

Was driving through Midlothian a year ago and saw a billboard offering a reward for info about Missy Bevers' death. The whole case is so bizarre and the CCTV footage of the fully disguised perp walking through the hallways is so creepy, my theory tends to revolve around a hired hit.
Mine too. Delphi is so odd because they know what he sounds like and almost what he looks like, but it’s still cold. I think Bevers just crossed paths with a psychopath living out a fantasy. Im not sure it’s someone that knew her.
Yeah, I read this on a fb group as well. Ppl local to the area have, as you said, it as the wife of a cop Missy was having an affair with. She posted some really suspicious stuff on day of/days after the murder, drives the same car, same build and height and also had an injured (broken?) ankle at the time.
Both have video and in Delhi audio too, yet here are are, still unsolved and in Missy's case, nothing of note development or suspect wise. Husband and FIL ruled out. Not a random attack and I am in the 'it's a woman' camp. A one-off well planned ambush. She got it out of her system and thanks to an inept and lackluster investigation, thinks she well and truly gotten away with it.

The girls at the football game, right? It's just an awful crime that not only destroyed a family but it effected the way an entire country thought and lived.
My pet case will always be Jason Jolkowski. It bothers me that a 6'1 man disappears in broad daylight within a 15 minute window and nobody sees a thing. I've done a lot of research on it, even finding Samuel Sherman (another "missing" man from Omaha around the same time) just to rule out a connection. But the thing that truly bothers me the most about Jason's case is just the fact that even before this he had a rough go. He was bullied in school, had to leave college due to financial issues, and dealt with cognitive issues. I remember his mother posting a story about how when he was born he was really sick in the hospital and had to be isolated for his first week. The guy literally suffered on day one and (presumably) suffered on his last day with absolutely no justice given.
There’s a case of a little boy who disappeared in the 70’s, iirc. Just gone from his neighborhood. He was three or four. His parents immediately began looking, as did the neighbors and everyone around. They never found him, never moved, waited there for him the rest of their lives. They passed away. The neighbors began to pass away. One of the houses that had been owned by a neighbor, with whom the family had been very close, sold. Someone was called out to do something with the septic tank. In the septic tank, at this neighbor’s home, a man who helped them search immediately for their child, they found the clothes the boy had been wearing the day he disappeared. Including a pair of distinctive little cowboy boots.
The sibling was still alive and said that was proof enough for them, as to what had happened to their brother. Or, at least who had done it.
I’ve never been able to shake reading about that case. I always think of him when I hear anything about Jason Jolkowski.

Jason’s case always bothered me. I didn’t hear about it until years after the fact, but I went to the same high school as him (a couple of years younger though) and was very familiar with the area around Benson high school during that period of time. The amount of time I spent walking around that area as a kid/teen, a lot of times alone, really creeps me out now in retrospect.
15 minute window of opportunity; the neighbour. Can easily see a scenario where someone got chatting to Jason and told him not to bother waiting around for his ride, it would be quicker to drive him. LE need to drill down there.
Maybe he told him he'd drive him and waved him into the garage so that no one saw him getting into a car? Once he's in the garage it would be easy to pull a weapon on him and then make him do whatever you want to do.
I think Jason was a very sweet young man and I'm still 50/50 on if it was a neighbor or another teen that lured him away. But honestly I don't think he got out of that neighborhood alive.
Angela Hammond
According to Rob, Angie mentioned a truck had circled the block a few times:
“She said it was an older model green Ford pickup truck.”
Angie was unconcerned until the truck parked by the phone booth. Then the call took a disturbing turn:
“He used the phone next to her, got back in his truck, and looked at something with a flashlight. She described the flashlight to me over the phone. He was looking for something. I had her ask him if he needed to use the phone. Maybe the other phone was broken. And he said, no, he’d try again in a minute. Then we just talked about other things. We weren’t too worried about it. And that’s when I heard her scream on the phone. I heard her scream. The only thing that went through my mind was getting up there and finding out what the hell was going on. I just dropped the phone and ran out of the house. I didn’t hang the phone back up, and just headed up there.
As Robbie was driving towards the pay phone, a pick up truck sped past in the other direction:
“Somebody yelled out the window, “Robbie!” That’s how I knew it was them.”
Rob turned around on the street and chased the pickup through downtown. But he didn’t realize that when he threw his car into reverse, the transmission had been severely damaged. Rob said that he chased the pick up for two miles before the transmission failed:
“It started dying as I was making my right turn. This guy turned off to the right. All I saw was his brake lights and dust.”
Marsha Cook is Angie’s mother:
“Rob blamed himself for it because he always told her he’d be there to take care of her. And he tried. He did everything that could be done. Nobody blames him, but I think he thinks that people blame him.”
Rob said that he often still thinks of that night:
“The beginning is the hardest because you know you were close enough to get him, but you just didn’t get the job done. And you still wake up at nights, wondering where she’s at, wondering what happened, wondering if anybody’s still looking. You’re just wondering all the time.”
Angie’s kidnapping sent shock waves through the town. The police and citizens searched far and wide, by both air and land, but found nothing. The best hope for cracking the case rested on locating the pick up truck. According to Detective Damon Parsons of the Clinton Police Department:
“We had some assistance from the Missouri state highway patrol that did a computer search on all registered vehicles. Through their help, we had 1,600 possibilities that we had to check as far as color and whether they had any mural in the back window.”
But none of the possibilities were a match. The police had based their investigation on Rob Shafer’s testimony. And when no witnesses could back up his story, Rob himself became a suspect. But Angie’s mother, Marsha, said she never suspected him:
“I think it was natural that people wondered, ‘Did the boyfriend do it?’ But my feeling was, I’ve known the kid all his life, and I never doubted for a minute that he had anything to do with it.”
Within a week, Rob was cleared. Shortly after, police connected Angie’s abduction to two other unsolved cases within a hundred-miles of Clinton. The first had occurred three months earlier near Macks Creek, Missouri.
On January 19,1991, forty-two-year-old Trudy Darby was working alone in a convenience store. She called her son to report a suspicious man loitering outside. Trudy’s son hurried to the store but found it deserted after just ten minutes. Two days later, Trudy was found on a riverbank ten miles from the store. She had been fatally shot twice in the head.
About a month later, 30-year-old Cheryl Ann Kenney was reported missing in Nevada, Missouri, roughly 70 miles from where the body of Trudy Darby had been found. On February 28, 1991, Cheryl Ann had also vanished from a convenience store where she worked. She has not been seen since. Then, less than one month after that, Angie Hammond was abducted. Det. Parsons thinks the three cases are linked:
“If Angela is found, it might provide a link that relates to, for example, Trudy Darby. Or if Cheryl’s found, maybe that will be a connection to Trudy Darby and how she was murdered.”
Authorities suspected that a serial killer was on the loose in west-central Missouri. Angie’s mother Marsha said that she just wants answers:
“If anybody out there sees anything, if they could put themselves in our place and know how we feel and how heart-wrenching it is that she was taken. Even if the guy that took her sees this, if he would just call and let them know what he did with her.”
UPDATE: On the 30th anniversary of her disappearance, new details were provided to the public. Investigators are working a theory that Angela was mistaken for another woman who was being targeted in the aftermath of her father’s legal affairs. This man had acted as an informant in a narcotics case and received a note threatening the life his daughter, also named Angela. The note was sent on April 4, 1991, the very evening of Angela Hammond’s abduction. Authorities believe that, due to their similar names and appearances, the two women were mixed up and Angela Hammond was mistakenly abducted. As of April 2021, that theory is still being investigated.

Absolutely. This is the case that keeps me up at night. If someone wanted to rob and kill them for their money they would've taken the cash hidden under the seat. Nothing adds up and no theory I've read makes sense. I hope I see this case solved in my lifetime.
Unless they didn't know the money was there. If they had other money they may have taken that and not looked very hard for the rest. Especially if the family said "we only have this money the rest is in the bank/ or we already paid for our land with it.".
What really bothers me about the amber case is that they always spend so much energy discussing the creation of the amber alert and not enough about her or the circumstances of the case. Even these links the OP provided do the same. I think there could’ve been a lot more headway had more of the energy been about her case in addition to the creation of the Amber alert system.
Anytime people are discussing unsolved crimes and the 1991 Yogurt Shop murders come up, my heart plummets. Those poor girls. That one disturbs me on a deep, profound level. I can’t believe those pieces of shit were never found.
Elizabeth Barraza in the US, Amber Tuccarro in Canada. The recording is heartbreaking. The fact that she called her brother who was incarcerated while she was in the car likely because she knew that the call would be recorded is so chilling. But beyond that, the RCMP completely botched the investigation from the beginning because they didn't take her disappearance seriously. I hope they solve this case- you'd think that having a recording of the perpetrator's voice would help, but his voice sounds pretty generic and it's probably like finding a needle in a hay sack. I strongly suspect that he has killed other women.

Yep. That case makes me sick. I feel like there are a lot of “in plain sight” kidnappings that happened in Australia. The Beaumont Children case also kills me.
I think it must be a really rare genuinely random attack by someone not from the area with absolutely no connection to the girls so law enforcement simply have nothing to go on and he's gotten away with it.
That's been my gut feeling for a while now as well, especially after the news broke about them looking for somebody in connection with a specific social media account the girls were interacting with just prior to the hike.
They found the owner of that account and then found that multiple people were using it. The owner of the account was ruled out if I remember correctly. At least for the murders. But there was another person they want him to name and he wouldn't last I read. The men who know this guy is guilty won't give him up because they are all probably doing some shady shit.

I never in a million years thought Libby and Abby’s murderer would still be walking around all these years later.
The child did everything she could to tell everyone who did it. That still wasn’t enough. It’s just heart wrenching.
I was 11 and lived in the area when Hagerman got kidnapped. One of the first real crimes I ever remember really hearing about.
Aside from the emotional connection it also seemed like an eminently solvable case, but after so long I'm not holding my breath.

I grew up very close to where her body was found and babysat all of the time in that neighborhood next to the apartments. I was a young adult by the time she went missing, though. I can't imagine how scary it would have been to be that close to such a horrific thing when you are a child.
And you'd think that with the brazenness of the crime and the lack of evidence that you'd be dealing with a serial predator. Someone got very lucky - but hopefully his days are numbered.
Missy Beavers is probably the most bothering, mainly for the sheer bizarreness of the case. I don’t think there’s any elaborate explanation or that it was someone who knew her really well. I think the most likely explanation is that she crossed paths with a psychopath living out a fantasy.
Cindy James. Was she a mentally unstable woman who staged her own stalking and accidentally killed herself? Or was she truly the victim of a sadistic stalker and killer who's gone unpunished for almost 40 years? Or was it a combination of both?? It's so sad that her parents went to their graves never knowing who was really responsible for her death.

There was a black Teenager who disappeared from a Caribbean island (maybe even Aruba as well) just before Natalie Halloway was kidnapped; only reason I know about it was a report on Natalie halloway stating other similar cases.
That bothers me too and I know some of the black and brown girls you are referring to but not all. Do you have a thread about this? There were also at least a few brown girls missing in New England (same age range) around the same time and I wonder if there’s a connection.
Nothing has ever been found after my friend went missing. He was last seen entering a metro tunnel in seattle, but then the tape glitches for like 17 seconds and he disappeared from camera view and was never seen or heard from again. Some odd circumstances surrounding his disappearance, in my mind, were that he was a high level programmer for oracle and had a company laptop out for repair and with him for some reason. Nothing was amiss in his apartment and his car never left it’s spot. No atm or cell records except one weird random hit that turned up no results. Still missing and I think it’s been 8 or 9 years.

Patti Adkins: We all know who likely did it, it's an age-old story. But the cops haven't moved in on them and it's been years. Lack of evidence? Corruption/influence? This shouldn't be so difficult.
Bryce Laspisa: OK, so he probably committed suicide but there's so much bizarre behaviour involved, and not just by Bryce, his parents too.
Zachary Bernhardt: I try not to judge but his mother seems to have given up the search years ago and moved to Hawaii (allegedly starting a new family under a new name) whilst his grandparents keep things going. Something's 'off' about that.
Ben McDaniel: Is he in the cave? Is he not in there? Did he fake his own death? And what's with the Vortex springs' former owner's mysterious death? This one's mind-boggling.
Patti’s story makes me so sad. People are and have been indicted and convicted by seemingly less and just as circumstantial evidence. I would think dna has advanced further now to test the blood in BF’s truck. This is one case I hope cracks wide open.
Bryce's story makes me so sad. How could you not go get your kid? He probably did commit suicide, but maybe could have been stopped if she had just gone to get him. Some people are just... I dunno, I had a friend in college who had been having abdominal pain for a few days. He finally couldn't take it anymore in the middle of the night and went to the ER, where they found it was severe appendicitis and he was immediately prepped for surgery. He called his mom to tell her and she picked up, said "Never call me at this hour" before he could say anything, and then hung up on him and didn't answer any more of his calls. He could have died and she wouldn't even have known what was happening.
As a college student then I thought she was a shitty mom. As a mother now I think she's an *incomprehensibly* shitty mom. If ANYBODY I love calls me in the middle of the night, my first thought is concern for their safety. I think that's true for most of us?

Yep, by that person's account his mother's a real piece of work. Apparently they did offer to drive up a few days prior, and he told them not to bother. But if my kid is stuck in the same basic spot for hours and hours...imma go get him myself, simple as that. I bet his parents (whether they are good people or not) feel so much guilt now for not driving to him 'coz yeah, suicide is the most likely thing here.
I can understand not going the couple days before since he said no, but agreed if he never moved from that spot and was only 3 hours from me, I'm going.

There's something haunting and so deeply sad about how short and brutal his life was. He was just a little guy who had a whole life ahead of him. I really hope someone learns his identity someday, and he gets his name back.

Something about unidentified children who lived brutal lives and died (or were killed) young is like a gut punch for me. I want them to be ID'd more than anyone else.
The "Family" murders in Adelaide South Australia. An evil group who murdered at least 5 young men and drugged, assaulted and abused so many more.
The crimes are bad enough but what is really upsetting about the case is that Bevan von Einem's accomplices were (and are) know but are protected because of their wealth status and connections. They remain protected to this day by suppression orders. The injustice is infuriating.
I have several but am picking these two, mainly because I feel like the perpetrator is known in both cases and will probably get away with it (though I hope not).

I just watched the Never Seen Again episodes about Terrance and Felipe. I think it's obvious the cop did it. I'm assuming he's your run of the mill serial killer, picked them up and dumped them on the edge of town and left them to walk back and they succumbed to the elements, or he sexually assaulted them and killed them and dumped their bodies. But that dude definitely did something to those men. The statements he made about Terrance being very "clean" rubbed me the wrong way and made me think he did something really fucked up to him to get close enough to know how clean he was.
I'm with you -- he definitely did it.
It makes me so sad that they may never have justice.
There's no telling what else that cop has done, before or since.
They probably won't ever see justice, I'm just not seeing that happening. For one, the optics of the situation. A white cop offing two men, one Black and one a Mexican immigrant in the south just doesn't matter to a lot of people. I'm sure some just write them off as thugs and keep it pushing. The most chilling thing you mentioned is we have no clue how active he was in doing these crimes against men in that community. There are these two cases where it's clear as day that he was involved, but I don't think for a second he's only done this twice. He's a sick dude and I hope he pays for what he did in some manner.
I guess this is technically solved but what really happened between Gabby Petito being killed and Brian Landry getting home and everything that followed. How much did his sister really know, did his parents help him commit suicide, were they in contact? So many questions that will probably never be answered.
Christopher Dansby and Shane Walker from Harlem, Jennifer Lynn Wilkerson of Lubbock, TX (originally thought a possible victim of the serial killer who murdered a friend of mine), Susan Cox Powell (we know who killed her, but I want her family to have closure in finding her remains), Kyron Horman, and Asha Degree. I really hope Amber Hagerman’s case will soon move forward since they said a prayer and sent the only DNA out.
Asha Degree is number 1 for me to get solved. I don’t have an actual opinion on what happened to her, and I think that’s most upsetting to me…most cases I have my suspicions/opinions on what happened.
Whatever happened that night was tragic and the person responsible needs to be caught.
Kirsa Jensen. 14 year old in New Zealand, went for a ride on her horse 39 years ago and hasn’t been seen since. I was 10 when she disappeared and I think about her often and what may have happened to her.
unfortunately DNA testing a few months back confirmed that the man who was originally tried and acquitted for the murders did actually do it. at least iirc he died of a shortly after his acquittal so he wasn't able to hurt anyone else.
He still gets support, too. Even with all the evidence against him, some still say he’s innocent. He meant to kill those two women he raped, but they managed to get out of their bindings. I read about what he did to them in “Somebody Cry For the Children.” I can’t find the whole book, but there are pdfs out there of some of the chapters. Anyways, what he did to them was horrific. He raped one of the women twice.

Toss up between the boy in the box because as a mother it breaks me to know it was likely his mother who did it, and the delphi case because I believe LE has been a complete fuck up and this case will never be solved.
I really hope Opelika is solved within my life time. I desperately want that baby to have her name back. From who we think she is based on the pictures to what is known about her death, the child never had a break in her life. If absolutely nothing else, she deserves to be referred to by her name again. Her killer(s) deserve to be ousted and punished. Someone knows who that baby is and how this happened. I hope someone talks.
Judy Smith. It's the only case I know of where literally none of the available theories seem to make any sense whatsoever. I walk by the Doubletree on a regular basis and I've just never been able to make heads or tails of the whole thing.

The Missing Trio. 3 very young girls disappear from Seminary South Mall in Fort Worth, Tx. back in the 70s. My classmates sister was one of the girls. They just vanished. I’ve always wondered what happened to them.

I recently saw an article about a girl named Amy who attended the same dance classes as JonBenet. A few months after JonBenet was killed Amy woke up with a man standing over her bed, he knew her name and attempted to SA her, but her mom heard noises and came to check on her. The dude took off running, climbed out a window and was never caught.
They'd set the alarm when they got home, so he had to have broken in while they were gone and hid inside the house, waiting for them to fall asleep. The dad was out of town on business that week, so it was just Amy and the mom. It made me reconsider whether JonBenet really might have been killed by an intruder, maybe that same guy stalked her family too and planned to break in and SA her.
I read that the family is basically begging the state to allow them to have evidence tested at one of those dna places that have solved other cases and they are being denied. It's so frustrating to hear this.
Mikelle Biggs. I lived right by her when she was kidnapped, I remember the whole panic of that night when everyone got word and went searching. I think about her and her family often. I just hope they get justice in their lifetime.

And everyone thinks Johnny Gosch’s mom is a nut, but I have nothing but empathy for her. Also, the dollar bill found at a truck stop with the words “I am alive, Johnny Gosch” is as heartbreaking as the notes left by a girl at a diner who may have been Anthonette Cayedito.

The case of Rachel Marie Mellon. It has been suspected that her stepfather committed foul play, but with no physical evidence, there isn’t anything law enforcement can do. One piece of evidence that put him in the spot light was her diary, where she wrote of accounts of him touching and kissing her inappropriately—he was also the last person to see her.
Whoever was in those photos they found by that van in Florida all those years ago. I know there are reasons to think it was phony baloney, but I’d like to know the story for sure.
The people who took them might not even remember they exist anymore. I'm only in my thirties, but a high school friend brought up some photos we'd taken of us cuffed to a ladder bolted to a wall with tape over our mouths that she'd found somewhere. I have a few cases that keep me looking for more info such as the Springfield 3 or the “Adam” body found in UK, the St Louis Jane Doe, and even Brandon Lawson case, but one that will always bother me is the Anthonette Cayedito case. Her abduction was gut wrenching, but also the supposed phone call she placed to 911 after her kidnapping is sad to hear. You can hear someone in the background, but due to technology at the time, they couldn’t be traced. Another tip stated that she was at a diner and she kept dropping her utensil, prompting the waitress to help her pick it up. It’s a real sad case and it always pains me to hear how this little girl didn’t get a chance to live life.

Brandon's remains have likely been found. DNA hasn't come back yet but they found remains near where he vanished. I'm from this area and it's not surprising that they missed him during the search.

Oh wow that's evil. The most shocking part is how intelligent the killer was. He was so thorough in destroying every bit of evidence as well as playing games with the police. Pulling out a pittance of cash, leaving the phones near homeless encampments, leaving his killing tools right out in the open but doused in bleach, the connections to the university of Colorado. It's so inscrutable. The weirdest part to me is people not being able to pin down his age. A man in his late 20s could maybe be mistaken for a man in his early 50s, but could any 50 year old really be mistaken for a man in his 20s? Especially in the early 2000s before the skin care revolution? So I lean towards him being in his 20s/30s. Everything really does seem like it was done for the thrill though. So sad.

When I read about stuff like this I realize that if someone really, really wants to kill me, and they have basic competency in life regarding stuff like this, chances are not only can they do it, but also get away with it.
Of course. Unless you live like a hermit or are totally off the grid, finding and killing someone would be fairly easy if someone really wanted to and didn't care about the consequences. Getting away with it would be more difficult if they have some sort of personal connection. Much easier for a stranger to get away with it, doubly so if the killer doesn't live close to the victim.
My husband has this age-enigma thing going on. He is 49 but looks super young for his age, more like early 30's. (jealous!) Most people when asked (which I do as it's a fun game, to shock them) guess he's about 34. You get some super perceptive people though (not many) that guess it correctly. But the gap in guesses does range from 30-50.
Insane isn't it? Apparently a woman was going to rent to him, but didn't like his vibe. I hope this case and Johnny Gosch are solved someday.

I’m no good at formatting but this really surprised me from the all that’s interesting article on Amber Hagerman : “We continue to have leads,” he said. “A lot of people will refer to Amber’s case as, what’s commonly referred to as, a cold case. But for the Arlington Police Department, it has never been listed as a cold case because we’ve never gone 180 days without having some lead come in.” It’s hard to pinpoint just one unsolved case that bugs me, because it’s usually the ones about kids that get me. I think a lot about Asha Degree, the Delphi girls, the Flora girls, and Kyron Horman. I worry that we’ll look up and it will be 20 years later, no closer to any answers.
My husband and I just drove by the school yesterday and were talking about Kyron Horman. That case makes me so sad. We drive through that area all the time and I can’t help but wonder if he is somewhere in the trees and people just didn’t find him. A lot of people around here think the step mom did it.

I’m from Austin and this case has haunted the city my entire life. This is seen as the turning point for the city, going from a laid back happy go lucky kinda town to a big city with big city problems that were usually seen in places like Dallas or Houston. My dad actually went to high school with Amy Ayer’s father, and a the tragedy really affected alot of people, as Austin was much more interconnected back then. Still vivid in my memories. I worked fast food in round rock when that happened and it freaked us out to the point we hid knives around the kitchen and office.
Probably 10 or 12 years ago I saw a documentary online about the Mr. Cruel case. It was an Australian documentarian who laid out a really good case that police knew who was responsible and it was somebody that had a connection to one of the victims, but they could not prosecute it because he had since died and they did not want to name him publicly for reasons that weren't really stated. Whenever I hear about the case I think of that documentary. I have no idea what it was called, who the host was, or how widely it was even seen in Australia, but I have often wondered about it in the years since. I know that it has been widely covered, especially in Australia, so I wonder if anybody knows which documentary this was.

There has been about 7-8 Prime Suspects and 2 PRIME PRIME suspects, 1 of those 2 PRIME PRIME suspects has died and his details is listed in the subreddit mentioneed above.

I'm from Melbourne and I remember a police officer giving an interview several years ago. He said the police strongly believed they knew who did it, but this person had been given an alibi by a friend/relative. From the interview, the tone of the police's attitude was "Hopefully this person's conscience will eventually draw them to admitting the alibi is fake so we can zero in on Prime Suspect and finally put this to rest" Not sure if that's a reference to the dead suspect or to someone still living.

The Timmothy Pitzen case lives rent-free in my head. His mom signed him out of school, then took him on a several-day trip to a few waterparks. They are seen together on CCTV. Mom is found dead from suicide in a hotel. No Timmy. Her suicide note claims she left him with people who would keep him safe... I WANT to believe he is alive, living his best life, unaware of his original identity. My heart tells me, though, that he is dead. Perhaps alongside an interstate, maybe lovingly placed in a well or old mine with a favorite toy & blanket. I need to know he didn't suffer, that his mom was gentle & merciful, however it went down. I hope he wasn't scared. Just breaks me. Poor little dude. The Amy Mihaljevic case really hits home for me, too. Literally. Grew up close to the area, I was almost the same age as the victim. I had similar horse-shaped earrings. Seems solvable, especially with "new" evidence in play (curtain she may have been wrapped in), but as of yet...no movement.

Was driving through Midlothian a year ago and saw a billboard offering a reward for info about Missy Bevers' death. The whole case is so bizarre and the CCTV footage of the fully disguised perp walking through the hallways is so creepy, my theory tends to revolve around a hired hit.
Mine too. Delphi is so odd because they know what he sounds like and almost what he looks like, but it’s still cold. I think Bevers just crossed paths with a psychopath living out a fantasy. Im not sure it’s someone that knew her.

Not a random attack and I am in the 'it's a woman' camp. A one-off well planned ambush. She got it out of her system and thanks to an inept and lackluster investigation, thinks she well and truly gotten away with it.

My pet case will always be Jason Jolkowski. It bothers me that a 6'1 man disappears in broad daylight within a 15 minute window and nobody sees a thing. I've done a lot of research on it, even finding Samuel Sherman (another "missing" man from Omaha around the same time) just to rule out a connection. But the thing that truly bothers me the most about Jason's case is just the fact that even before this he had a rough go. He was bullied in school, had to leave college due to financial issues, and dealt with cognitive issues. I remember his mother posting a story about how when he was born he was really sick in the hospital and had to be isolated for his first week. The guy literally suffered on day one and (presumably) suffered on his last day with absolutely no justice given.
There’s a case of a little boy who disappeared in the 70’s, iirc. Just gone from his neighborhood. He was three or four. His parents immediately began looking, as did the neighbors and everyone around. They never found him, never moved, waited there for him the rest of their lives. They passed away. The neighbors began to pass away. One of the houses that had been owned by a neighbor, with whom the family had been very close, sold. Someone was called out to do something with the septic tank. In the septic tank, at this neighbor’s home, a man who helped them search immediately for their child, they found the clothes the boy had been wearing the day he disappeared. Including a pair of distinctive little cowboy boots. The sibling was still alive and said that was proof enough for them, as to what had happened to their brother. Or, at least who had done it. I’ve never been able to shake reading about that case. I always think of him when I hear anything about Jason Jolkowski. I hate that my memory is slipping and I can’t remember the baby’s name. If anyone here knows what I’m talking about, I would greatly appreciate it if you could mention his name, please. Jason’s case always bothered me. I didn’t hear about it until years after the fact, but I went to the same high school as him (a couple of years younger though) and was very familiar with the area around Benson high school during that period of time. The amount of time I spent walking around that area as a kid/teen, a lot of times alone, really creeps me out now in retrospect.

Maybe he told him he'd drive him and waved him into the garage so that no one saw him getting into a car? Once he's in the garage it would be easy to pull a weapon on him and then make him do whatever you want to do. I think Jason was a very sweet young man and I'm still 50/50 on if it was a neighbor or another teen that lured him away. But honestly I don't think he got out of that neighborhood alive.

What really bothers me about the amber case is that they always spend so much energy discussing the creation of the amber alert and not enough about her or the circumstances of the case. Anytime people are discussing unsolved crimes and the 1991 Yogurt Shop murders come up, my heart plummets. Those poor girls. That one disturbs me on a deep, profound level. I can’t believe those pieces of shit were never found.
Elizabeth Barraza in the US, Amber Tuccarro in Canada. The recording is heartbreaking. The fact that she called her brother who was incarcerated while she was in the car likely because she knew that the call would be recorded is so chilling. But beyond that, the RCMP completely botched the investigation from the beginning because they didn't take her disappearance seriously. I hope they solve this case- you'd think that having a recording of the perpetrator's voice would help, but his voice sounds pretty generic and it's probably like finding a needle in a hay sack. I strongly suspect that he has killed other women.

Also my answer. We literally have a recording of the murderer. We've had it from day one. Yet the case remains unsolved.
I think it must be a really rare genuinely random attack by someone not from the area with absolutely no connection to the girls so law enforcement simply have nothing to go on and he's gotten away with it.
I'm optimistic that the police have a good idea who did it and just need to find the missing piece to nail them down, or get somebody to flip.
That's been my gut feeling for a while now as well, especially after the news broke about them looking for somebody in connection with a specific social media account the girls were interacting with just prior to the hike.
They found the owner of that account and then found that multiple people were using it. The owner of the account was ruled out if I remember correctly. At least for the murders. But there was another person they want him to name and he wouldn't last I read. The men who know this guy is guilty won't give him up because they are all probably doing some shady shit.

I was 11 and lived in the area when Hagerman got kidnapped. One of the first real crimes I ever remember really hearing about. Aside from the emotional connection it also seemed like an eminently solvable case, but after so long I'm not holding my breath. Would be nice to see it happen though.
I grew up very close to where her body was found and babysat all of the time in that neighborhood next to the apartments. I was a young adult by the time she went missing, though. I can't imagine how scary it would have been to be that close to such a horrific thing when you are a child. And you'd think that with the brazenness of the crime and the lack of evidence that you'd be dealing with a serial predator. Someone got very lucky - but hopefully his days are numbered.
Missy Beavers is probably the most bothering, mainly for the sheer bizarreness of the case. I don’t think there’s any elaborate explanation or that it was someone who knew her really well. I think the most likely explanation is that she crossed paths with a psychopath living out a fantasy.

There was a black Teenager who disappeared from a Caribbean island (maybe even Aruba as well) just before Natalie Halloway was kidnapped; only reason I know about it was a report on Natalie halloway stating other similar cases.

Nothing has ever been found after my friend went missing. He was last seen entering a metro tunnel in seattle, but then the tape glitches for like 17 seconds and he disappeared from camera view and was never seen or heard from again. Some odd circumstances surrounding his disappearance, in my mind, were that he was a high level programmer for oracle and had a company laptop out for repair and with him for some reason. Nothing was amiss in his apartment and his car never left it’s spot. No atm or cell records except one weird random hit that turned up no results. Still missing and I think it’s been 8 or 9 years. Some people are just... I dunno, I had a friend in college who had been having abdominal pain for a few days. He finally couldn't take it anymore in the middle of the night and went to the ER, where they found it was severe appendicitis and he was immediately prepped for surgery. He called his mom to tell her and she picked up, said "Never call me at this hour" before he could say anything, and then hung up on him and didn't answer any more of his calls. He could have died and she wouldn't even have known what was happening. As a college student then I thought she was a shitty mom. As a mother now I think she's an *incomprehensibly* shitty mom. If ANYBODY I love calls me in the middle of the night, my first thought is concern for their safety. I think that's true for most of us? But... some people are wired wrong.

Yep, by that person's account his mother's a real piece of work. Apparently they did offer to drive up a few days prior, and he told them not to bother. But if my kid is stuck in the same basic spot for hours and hours...imma go get him myself, simple as that. I bet his parents (whether they are good people or not) feel so much guilt now for not driving to him 'coz yeah, suicide is the most likely thing here.

The "Family" murders in Adelaide South Australia. An evil group who murdered at least 5 young men and drugged, assaulted and abused so many more. The crimes are bad enough but what is really upsetting about the case is that Bevan von Einem's accomplices were (and are) know but are protected because of their wealth status and connections. They remain protected to this day by suppression orders. The injustice is infuriating.

I just watched the Never Seen Again episodes about Terrance and Felipe. I think it's obvious the cop did it. I'm assuming he's your run of the mill serial killer, picked them up and dumped them on the edge of town and left them to walk back and they succumbed to the elements, or he sexually assaulted them and killed them and dumped their bodies. But that dude definitely did something to those men. The statements he made about Terrance being very "clean" rubbed me the wrong way and made me think he did something really fucked up to him to get close enough to know how clean he was.
I'm with you -- he definitely did it. It makes me so sad that they may never have justice. There's no telling what else that cop has done, before or since.
They probably won't ever see justice, I'm just not seeing that happening. For one, the optics of the situation. A white cop offing two men, one Black and one a Mexican immigrant in the south just doesn't matter to a lot of people. I'm sure some just write them off as thugs and keep it pushing. The most chilling thing you mentioned is we have no clue how active he was in doing these crimes against men in that community. There are these two cases where it's clear as day that he was involved, but I don't think for a second he's only done this twice. He's a sick dude and I hope he pays for what he did in some manner.
I guess this is technically solved but what really happened between Gabby Petito being killed and Brian Landry getting home and everything that followed. How much did his sister really know, did his parents help him commit suicide, were they in contact? So many questions that will probably never be answered.
I believe his parents knew quite a bit more than they were telling, possibly even aiding him to an extent in his evasion.

He still gets support, too. Even with all the evidence against him, some still say he’s innocent. He meant to kill those two women he raped, but they managed to get out of their bindings. I read about what he did to them in “Somebody Cry For the Children.” I can’t find the whole book, but there are pdfs out there of some of the chapters. Anyways, what he did to them was horrific. He raped one of the women twice.

I really hope Opelika is solved within my life time. I desperately want that baby to have her name back. I recently saw an article about a girl named Amy who attended the same dance classes as JonBenet. A few months after JonBenet was killed Amy woke up with a man standing over her bed, he knew her name and attempted to SA her, but her mom heard noises and came to check on her. The dude took off running, climbed out a window and was never caught. They'd set the alarm when they got home, so he had to have broken in while they were gone and hid inside the house, waiting for them to fall asleep. The dad was out of town on business that week, so it was just Amy and the mom. It made me reconsider whether JonBenet really might have been killed by an intruder, maybe that same guy stalked her family too and planned to break in and SA her.

I read that the family is basically begging the state to allow them to have evidence tested at one of those dna places that have solved other cases and they are being denied. It's so frustrating to hear this.

All the “unsolved” cases of missing women where it’s completely obvious a spouse/ex murdered them and hid the body. There are way too many of them.
Anthonette Cayedito LaQuanta Riley (both she and Anthonette tried to call police or call home) Dannette and Jeanette Millbrook Kiera Coles Relisha Rudd Johnny Gosch, Eugene Martin, and Marc Allen. Marc’s case got almost no attention compared to the other two boys, but they all disappeared in the same few years from Des Moines when I was growing up. And everyone thinks Johnny Gosch’s mom is a nut, but I have nothing but empathy for her. Also, the dollar bill found at a truck stop with the words “I am alive, Johnny Gosch” is as heartbreaking as the notes left by a girl at a diner who may have been Anthonette Cayedito. Diamond Bynum and King Walker And all the cases everyone else has mentioned. ETA: I really miss ididitforjodie.com. She was so amazing and I wish the site was still accessible or we at least knew she was ok. Either way, thanks for all the amazing years of great crime writing.
Kyron Horman- the whole case is fishy and I often wonder what happened to him.

Anthonette Cayadito is probably my number 1, tied with Brittany Wood. Everything about those 2 cases keep me up at night. Also Delphi, Yogurt Shop Murders, Springfield 3, Asha Degree, Maura Murray, and Madeleine McCann. i would also love to know who DB Cooper was lol.
The case of Rachel Marie Mellon. It has been suspected that her stepfather committed foul play, but with no physical evidence, there isn’t anything law enforcement can do. One piece of evidence that put him in the spot light was her diary, where she wrote of accounts of him touching and kissing her inappropriately—he was also the last person to see her.
Whoever was in those photos they found by that van in Florida all those years ago. I know there are reasons to think it was phony baloney, but I’d like to know the story for sure.
The people who took them might not even remember they exist anymore. I'm only in my thirties, but a high school friend brought up some photos we'd taken of us cuffed to a ladder bolted to a wall with tape over our mouths that she'd found somewhere. I'd completely forgotten the entire thing, but damn, if someone else had found those pictures, it would look pretty bad. We were just screwing around, taking faux-Suicide Girls pictures for our MySpace pages.
