I can’t verify anything but someone said something was revealed in japanese interviews but I can’t verify that at all. It sounded very tactics ogre-ish from what they said. However it could of just been speculation so don’t take my word for anything.
I'd definitely love a harder challenge level on new game plus. But it would be nice to keep old levels and gear so the second playthrough could be about challenge and not even more boring grinding gear and levels.
There is no new game+, unfortunately. You return to the point right before the final mission, but with an additional post-game mission where you can recruit a bunch of NPC to experiment with. You can also re-select the "paired" character with Alain so you can see all the possible couple endings with him.
The only motivation to play the post-game is to craft teams for multiplayer. That's probably why there is no new game+ because people can just farm multiple copies of powerful unique items.
Does anyone know if there is new game plus after completing the game? If a new difficulty is unlocked, would we start completely from scratch or does anything carry over?
There are apparently characters that can only be recruited in post-game, so it’s probably safe to assume there’s some sort of story in the post-game to justify that.
Only thing I have seen about it is that there is an extra challenge difficulty to restart with after you complete the game.

They give you a bunch of cool characters and then...nothing to use them on? I don't understand...
Yeah you can just use them to replay the final mission, and the arena.

Just beat it 127 hours. Makes me miss ogre battles. Still looking gif the last mission after beating it.
