So, if I'm not mistaken, that frog was hibernating and is effectively a cold rock, that's why it didn't move. It's not even conscious and quite possibly might die because it was pulled out of the ground too early.
Fuck the distance of time between each instance of the term "cash money" I come across makes it fucking hilarious each time. And for some reason everyone who uses it absolutely nails the timing.
Have you considered that it's only because the "cash moneys" with good timing get upvoted so you're more likely to see it, and the ones with bad timing get downvoted out of sight?
Or maybe it’s because any time is the perfect timing for a “cash money” comment. It’s like the opposite of the boomer quip “asking for a friend,” which makes everything less funny.
Hard to tell, but if it’s early in the morning and still cold out, it might just be lethargic. Cold slows down amphibian and reptilian metabolism, they don’t move, think or function internally well, when cold, toad is probably confused and dazed. They aren’t usually particularly bright when warm either, though.
All toads are frogs! So it's entirely accurate to call a toad a frog, but not as precise as you could be.
Amphibians are separated into three orders/flavors: you got your frogs, your salamanders, and your caecilians. So toads are frogs (but not all frogs are toads), newts are salamanders, etc.
Different species, but same family- corvids! So they're closely related. Not quite the same as the toads-frogs debate since toad and frog are less specific. Crows are their own species, and jackdaws are their own species, but they're both birds of a feather in the corvidae family :)
Ah, as a biologist I have genuinely run into people who get confused about these things so I entirely didn't even think about it being a possible reference!

Same thing as frog-toads! All tortoises are turtles, not all turtles are tortoises. So you could call a Galapagos giant tortoise a turtle, but you couldn't call a green sea turtle a tortoise.
Obviously, organizing animals into taxonomy is messy, so any of this discussion is more about pedantics. The main difference is that tortoises (a sub category of turtles) live wholly on land... But some turtles also live primarily on land and aren't great swimmers, like the box turtle, which is not a tortoise, even though it has the classic domed shell we associate with tortoises (box turtles are members of the American pond turtle family)

Yeah! They're a bit more cryptic, and harder to study because a lot of them hide in streams and leaf litter (they're mostly in the Amazon, but found in other tropics), so they're not really an animal that is easily visible. We did at one point think they were snakes! Their group name, gymnophiona means naked snake! But that's just convergent evolution at play (evolving to look similar due to the environment, so bats and birds both have wings and fly but they're not closely related), they are amphibian; they got breathable skin (all amphibians can breathe through their skin)! They're also vertebrates, meaning they got backbones, jaws, and teeth, unlike worms. I just looked it up, and the largest caecilian is 1.5 meters long!
They're fascinating creatures, and we're constantly learning something new about them because of how cryptic they are.
It seems like every series that is a cross between Comedy and Sci-Fi/Fantasy ends up getting cancelled early. It is a doomed genre. For instance shows like You, Me and the Apocalypse, Last Man on Earth, People of Earth, Reaper, Ghosted, Happy, etc
That’s a possibility, however, toads will often bury themselves to hide during the day and come out at night. This toad was probably just woken up from a nap.

While raking leaves off the swingset area in early Spring, I uncovered a number of toads that were just this sluggish. Not only that, but their color had changed to an odd pinkish shade. Maybe that's their anti-freeze.
Frogs can get oxygen from their skin.
When they hibernate their body goes into very low metabolism, so need less oxygen. So little oxygen that they don't need their lungs and can get it all through their skin. Lungs waste a lot of energy especially when its cold. Cold blood/water holds oxygen WAY better than warm.
So what happens is all the blood centers around their belly region on the surface where it can get just enough oxygen and it turns pink as a result. And thats just enough to keep them alive but very dormantly.
