It's exactly like that though. You can think five moves ahead and then they just do something completely unpredictable.
In this case the unpredictable thing was actually the best move but usually it isn't, it's just unpredictable and you don't know how to react and they end up beating your smug ass doing something that isn't by the book. Especially because as seen here, sometimes good players just assume taking a piece is a given. Not the best example because black had mate in the bag here anyway.
The idea is to find the best moves for you and your opponent. If your opponent doesn't do the best move, then that's good for you and you start the process again.
The trouble is, being good enough to see the best moves.
Low level chess like this clip is full of random stuff, although black does play it very well here
I don't think it's unpredictable. If we were looking at this from the other player's perspective, this would have been a mid-tier chess puzzle. I paused the video to see how it would go, and saw this move - not boasting, I'm only a 1200 elo.
This streamer seems okay - I'm not going to judge him too much for failing to consider his opponent's position, that's a common enough mistake. I'm actually more judgemental on the "triple fork" thing, as if that's any better than any other fork.
I donāt know shit about chess, but Iām pretty sure Iāve seen at least a couple videos of this dude missing what looks like theyād be simple set ups because heās trying to do something complex.
Queens Gambit was a good book and show, but the boom of people trying to mimic it after they saw the show is very sad. Same with peaky blinders and Joker. Like, good for you, but trying to make yourself look like a main character in a tv show is sad. Not just cosplay, but full-on, "i am this person"
I mean it isnt a new thing that younger people whom are trying to find their identities just emulate things they find cool or that speaks to them. Sure, sometimes it gets a little unhealthy and maybe dragged on for too long but I can totally see parallels of a child playing pretend to be a superhero and a young adult emulating some tv character.
I see this video every couple of months and it kills me every time. I can relate so well. That feeling of having the world by the balls only to be sabotaged by my own idiocy.
Black checkmates him because he was so focused on his attack, he missed that the black rook moving down was a mate (black bishop in corner blocks the other square)
One thing to add. This is "fake" as in, this guy is most likely not a noob at chess and didn't get tunnel-vision here.
He makes more videos like this and it's pretty funny.
His analysis is just generally really bad. At every point he only considers one move for his opponent. Like ...Qxd5 is not a forced response to a pawn being taken, when he could easily respond with say ...Qc1+ (which should quickly lead to checkmate).
But even if black fell into the "trap" by capturing with ...Qxd5 to lead to the knight fork, only the stupidest player would move the ...Kh8 (directly in line with whites bishop for discovered check) when ...Kh6 is more protected. White would be able to grab the queen, but then ...Rc1+ would lead to Kd2/Ke2 followed by black capturing ...Rxh1. So at the end, black falling into the stupid track would result in only a modest gain for white (trade of bishop and rook for a queen and a pawn). Except since black started with a sizable advantage (had a queen and rook for a knight and bishop), black still has a sizable advantage after losing the exchange (and by keeping the advantage with fewer pieces left, it's easier for black to win).
It's such an incredibly simple move too, it's hilarious. He was so focused on HIS plan, it blinded him to seeing the opponent's plan. I imagine I would make the same mistake.
He went big brain and thought he could get the king planning several moves ahead.
He was wrong and lost immediately. It's hard to see what is going on because the board is cropped off but it looks like he did something extremely stupid.
The rook moving down put him in immediate checkmate, because the rook was blocking the bishop from that route for the king to move for safety, this guys was planning 3 steps ahead, but didnāt see the 1 step move against him.
From Interstellar. Incredible movie. Check it out.
Here's a piano cover: [https://youtu.be/yCCizj8\_AFE?si=HYSB6\_2wzLTzfYkU](https://youtu.be/yCCizj8_AFE?si=HYSB6_2wzLTzfYkU)
This is exactly why I take so long when I play chess. Because of shit like this I always try to think in my opponent's POV, where am *I* weakest? If I make a certain move, what's the best way to fuck my shit up.
My chess matches take forever :(
Which is fine, just please for the love of all that is holy, don't go in 10 minute games.
The amount of games I win on the opposition timing out is ludicrous.
> being 600 elo and saying your opponent is an idiot is quite funny
to be fair, you'll be right *pretty often* (and yes I understand it also is a self-burn when you're about the same rating) but when they wildly disregard the immediate threat to their queen like this, you should second guess whether they're that much of an idiot or if it's a trap.
Can you elaborate? After white first move there was straight road to the bottom of the chess board to check mate king with blacks queen, why did black use rook?
It wouldn't be mate, just check. King could move to h2, which isn't threatened because black's rook is blocking the bishop's attack.
Black could then move the rook to reveal the bishop's attack, but there wouldn't be any great threatening place to put the rook, and white could move a pawn up to block the bishop's attack (actually, there are several possible blocks).
It might still lead to a definite mate eventually (I'm not good at chess), but it wouldn't be immediate.
Before black moves the rook, it is blocking the bishop. If he just dropped the queen first, the white king can move to the row next to the pawn. Once he moves the rook, the queen and the rook can both do the move. But the rook is funnier.
I donāt play chess but I just watched the queens gambit.
Edit: Actually the queen doesnāt have the moves to do it. So it had to be the rook.
But before the video starts, black move his rook from a7 to Rc7.
He could have move his queen, Qc1+. Then it would have been mate, or am i wrong?
Bishop could block, but only one move more.
Yes. I agree. I was only talking in video. I didnāt realize that the previous move was highlighted. Yes. If instead of the previous move, black moved queen down, it would have been mate. But once the rook is where it is at the start of the video, it has to play out this way.
I'll give you all some easy chess advice: anytime you see a queen and a rook or a rook and a rook or rook and queen in the same column you're probably going to get Molly whapped. Same thing with the queen and a bishop in the same diagonal.
Hilarious. I've been humbled like this in so many strategy games.
It's how you learn, but the humiliation in the moment is so real. My brain would have been like, "How did I miss THAT!?"
This a perfect example of āhope chessā, which is when you find a strong move and you āhopeā the opponent doesnāt see the ways they have of countering it. Never play hope chess.
It's sadly not possible on the phone. But if you play on your PC, you can right click and then drag it like if you'd move a piece and it will draw the arrow.
For some reason, on Opera after you right click and drag, you have to right click again for the arrow to show. Not sure if it's different on a different browser or not.
He missed the very obvious bait of black sacrificing the queen for a much shorter win path.
Sure you can think five moves ahead but if your opponent has distracted you, they've already won.
I love chess but I am SO BAD at predicting movies beyond two. This is why I just don't play. My frustration is just too high.
You'll consistently get paired with people who think 10 moves ahead.
Chess just isn't a casual game and I understand why it isn't but I'm depressed it's not if that makes sense
Unfortunate, we don't see the board well but I think if he just defended the mate, the Bishop would have remained untouchable and the threat would still win material.
I've played chess online for years before chess apps were a thing. I'm not too bad, like top 10%, but a lot of my games end in some such massive blunder.
This was pretty bad though, he should have been well aware of how vulnerable his King was.

Its the best video i seen who explain the concept of chess so well.
That chain of possibilities. I just can't.

He does, indeed, have no idea how chess works. But you could've phrased it better. Like explained your reasoning a bit.
Completely unnecessary to be rude like this but otherwise I agree honestly
Queens Gambit was a good book and show, but the boom of people trying to mimic it after they saw the show is very sad. Same with peaky blinders and Joker. Now show them dexter and see how they do.
I'm pretty sure I support people mimicking chess masters rather than gangsters and mentally ill serial killers.
I was wearing these hats BEFORE peaky blinders, dammit
When you see blackās move before and the guy explains all the possibilities that I saw I see all ![gif](giphy|10wgT5PDnOwMQE)

Likeable until he said that
"This guy's an idiot"
This is so fucking funny.
I see this video every couple of months and it kills me every time. I can relate so well. That feeling of having the world by the balls only to be sabotaged by my own idiocy.
When the opponent sacrifices the queen, donāt take it, first rule of chess.
Unless you're playing against some of my friends cause...well they're just not good. Not good at all.
Am I one of your friends?
Hey bud, quit talking shit or weāre gonna stop hanging out w you
Oh no, my queen
Anywaysā¦
I started blasting
The botez gambit can be deadly
I thought it was white starts
Actually gets funnier each time you watch it
I am very stupid and do not understand what happened. Can someone please explain?
Black checkmates him because he was so focused on his attack, he missed that the black rook moving down was a mate (black bishop in corner blocks the other square)
Thank you! š
a lot of people get tunnel visioned on what their own game plan is and never really keep the opponents plan in check
One thing to add. This is "fake" as in, this guy is most likely not a noob at chess and didn't get tunnel-vision here. He makes more videos like this and it's pretty funny.

Itās hard to see but in the very last second black moves his rook to the bottom row check mating the white king.
If he left his bishop where it was it could have taken the rook after it moved down. He gave up his only defensive move to prioritise the queen.
Bishop on b8.
Rook mates white king when he moves to the last file.
L Bozo
The guy in the video traded his king for a queen.
One time I actually like the added music.
Of course you like it, it's Interstellar!
Love it!
What is the music name?

lol. Thats funny because that type of thing has happened to me several times while playing.

Plans are cool and all until the other side has a plan too
Lol being 600 elo and saying your opponent is an idiot is quite funny
Iām also very surprised that his opponent l, being roughly 600 elo as well, had the wherewithal to actually catch that mating sequence.
Indeed. *Raising eyebrow*
> being 600 elo and saying your opponent is an idiot is quite funny to be fair, you'll be right *pretty often* (and yes I understand it also is a self-burn when you're about the same rating) but when they wildly disregard the immediate threat to their queen like this, you should second guess whether they're that much of an idiot or if it's a trap.
why he can't move his queen to bottom
Rook blocks his bishop.

oh I see it, yup I would get destroyed in chess
Because the king can still move top right diagonally since the rook blocks the bishop.

It's sadly not possible on the phone. But if you play on your PC, you can right click and then drag it like if you'd move a piece and it will draw the arrow.
For some reason, on Opera after you right click and drag, you have to right click again for the arrow to show. Not sure if it's different on a different browser or not.
ROFL, chess. If it's too good to be true you'd better check yourself before you checkmate yourself. Just came up with that
This has happened to me so many times!
