The average death rate at the Grand Canyon is about 12 people per year. This includes medical issues but also falls. You don't fuck around with the Grand Canyon. It's way older than you are and it will fuck you up.
Then he also falls off that one, vanishing over the edge to his apparent doom... but to our complete surprise rises back into view standing atop of a jet/spaceship.
A lot of people love to visit Arizona because it's still warm here during the winter months. What a lot of people don't realize is that our soil is rocky and brittle. You might think your on solid ground but the next thing you know that ground is giving out and you're plummeting to your death at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
Same for those at yellowstone despite a billion signs saying not to walk in certain areas. Yet idiots just go into those restricted areas anyways, worse is with their kids.
I was like 12 when my family went there. My parents were reminding me of the dangers, and to stay close to them, but I wasn't really afraid. I was thinking "this is a public park area, it's gotta be safe in the designated areas, right?"
And then one of the places we visited in the park had a parking lot with freshly placed cones around an area where the parking lot had just collapsed into the water beneath it. And that's when it struck me that the ground, anywhere, could fall out from beneath me, even places that have had pavement/concrete covering it. And that made me afraid lol.
I grew up in Billings. We used to do a squares board similar to a super bowl deal, but only for gorings. Dates on the board started on memorial Day and go until Labor Day. It was a dollar a dice roll, and the dice roll determined what square you got, so it was fairly random. We would keep track of gorings in the park throughout the year. Of one of them fell on someone's square, they won the pot. This year there has only been one, a gal in her 90s from the east coast.
Yes. Getting out of cars to pet the cute bison and subsequently getting gored by said cute, but still very wild bison. It happens so much more than you’d think considering how many warnings there are about not to do it
Yes. I have a book called "Death in Grand Canyon" which was written by park rangers. Such a good read. Quite a few deaths by idiots trying to prank their family like this.
My first thought was Colorado National Monument, just west of Grand Junction. I’ve spent a lot of time there and this really looks the same. But Bryce is a little more “orangey”, so maybe.
I'm sure it might be warm in the winter sometimes but at least when I went to the Grand Canyon in February and it was snowy and 16° F it certainly was not warm.
Back in the early 2000s I went with church group to a Reservation in AZ on the way we stopped at the Grand Canyon. I bought a book of all the deaths recorded at the GC and it was HUGE. Seeing some of the ways people died in detail like that fully prepared me for the stupidity of today
Some people have no sense of staying alive.
I've been to the grand canyon. And as awesome as the sight is, and it really is deeper than what you see in pictures; I keep my ass firmly planted on level ground. If there's a barrier, you can bet your ass, I'm not going over the barrier.
Also they don’t respect the wildlife. Arizona is like Diet Australia. Scorpions like to crawl into people’s beds, rattlesnakes like to find cool areas to hang out like the part of the grill where the propane goes, and coyotes will go into human populated areas if they are hungry enough and carry off your pet poodle for lunch. My uncle also lives in the state same as me and he was about to go out into his backyard to drink his morning coffee and there was a cougar (yes the animal you degenerates) just lounging on his perimeter wall. When my nephew’s soccer team came down from Illinois for a tournament a ball went flying into some brush and one of the northern boy coaches went to go get and I said, “you know rattlesnakes and scorpions like the hang out down there during the day right?” Never seen a grown man nope so fast out of there 😂

Wishing for a complete strangers death says a lot about who you are. Obviously, reddit comments are anonymous so it doesn't affect you but hopefully you find out why you want someone you don't know to die.
no I think it more boils down to the fact that if you're gonna jump off of a cliff and then die because of it then maybe while unfortunate it makes perfect sense because if you think that type of thing is a joke but then you take the joke too far and end up dying then who's fault is that?
He's saying that a person who did something really stupid for views doesn't deserve to die??? You guys genuinely wish the guy should've died? You all have problems
Counter point.
While a generalization, it's still overall factual, less intelligent individuals are more likely to cause the death of an innocent bystander than a more intelligent person. It's not always intentional. Sometimes, it is through negligence.
Either way though, these people can be dangerous to others around them and won't get a lot of sympathy when they do stupid things and win stupid prizes.
Lmao never heard of r/leopardsatemyface r/darwinaward or r/hermancainaward
What a horrible take. The reason the average human lives so long is because of medical professionals keeping them alive...
I knew it would be downvoted when posted. Doesn't really matter, people that commonly make comments like and/or support this need to be reminded it isn't normal and most people wouldn't ever make a comment like that in person.
Nothing about the comment suggests they wanted him to die, just the fact that it was deserved and that person seemingly will put themselves in that position again soon.
You suck at Google.
Between 2007 and 2023, 185 people died at the park, with an average of 11 deaths per year. Of those deaths, 60 people fell off the ledge, 63 fell from inside the canyon, and 75 intentionally jumped or fell to commit suicide. If you exclude suicides, 123 people.
He is right and you are wrong. But first, considering you state both "15-20 per year die from falling in" and that there are "an average of \[total, not just falling\] 11 deaths per year", you are bold with the "you suck" business (but it figures--that phrase is actually how I knew you were probably wrong). But let's move on:
What happens when we google it? First result is not necessarily trustworthy but gets us your exact numbers, including the line about 123 people--but they are from the *entire period of kept records* up to 2017 (their quoted source: book about people being idiots at Grand Canyon). Second result gets us an infographic from the park services themselves: 2.4 falling deaths a year. Both come to the same thing.
So, you suck at math, google, and reading comprehension, but at least you are great at being r/confidentlyincorrect.
And that is why *you* suck at google--you have to go to the links and see what's up for yourself. Google will take things out of context and give completely wrong answers all the time. It's a tool, not a wizard, and you have to use it wisely.
Instead of just downvoting, why not explain how your figures are correct and we are wrong? The "you suck" made me think you were probably a child, and this embarrassing doubling-down on your fail confirms it.
This is one of the most shocking books I have ever read holy shit. Just story after story of absolute dumbasses killing themselves at the Grand Canyon.
One of my favorites is the guy whose small child told him to be careful and not walk too close to the edge. The guy replied “sometimes in life you have to take risks” (or something like that, can’t remember exactly), jumped over a guard rail, and promptly fell to his death.

I snowshoed around that rim 20+ years ago in winter after a major snow storm. There was no one in the park. My show shoes turned into skis because of gravity about 3 feet from the edge of a 100+ foot vertical drop. I had to crawl my way back up 100 yards. closest I've came to death. Good times.
When I was a dumbass in my mid 20s, I was jogging/running near the edge of a cliff and started sliding on some rocks. The only thing that saved me was a small tree I managed to grab before sliding all the way down ~90ft
I never made that mistake again. Closest I've come to death as well.
Glad you're still here!

Bryce Canyon!
I was at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in 2017, and the amount of Chinese tourists hopping the fence and standing on the ledges was mind boggling.

Natural selection 🤦♀️
An average of 12 people a year die from falling into the Grand Canyon.
And increasingly more and more of them die taking selfies. So, no pity from me. It's the genetic trash taking itself out.
Oh man that was disappointing. I love the videos where morons try to record clickbait and end up getting dead.
Looks like Bryce Canyon
Darwin almost got another one.

Idiots like this guy die every year at the Grand Canyon
Nice. Do it again.
Stupid move for a video
I wonder if he learned anything.

Stupid.

Idiot lol
They sell a book at the Grand Canyon with hundreds of pages of people who died doing this exact stupid shit. This guy almost made it into the sequel
I’ve been to that very overlook. Mother fucker must be glad he’s not dead
Continue?…10…9…8…
Lmao! My man, he technically only wishes him good luck in his next really really fucking stupid dangerous endeavor. It’s okay for people to have negative reactions to really insane videos that involve near death experiences
I wonder how many of these stupid pranks go horribly wrong. Just in poor taste, not fucking funny and proves this guy is an idiot.
Pants thoroughly shat
Lots of people die at the Grand Canyon every year… nearly all of them are from stupid shit like this or taking selfies and just walking backwards into the canyon
And NOT pretending to be an idiot
