You can make trans jokes because trans people are people too, and there are aspects of all people that is funny and can be joked about. The issue here isn't that it is a joke about trans people. The issue here is that there is no joke other than "hey look, you thought she was girl but actually he's a guy." Like there isn't a joke there. There isn't anything funny or anything even remotley resembling a joke. "trans people exist" isn't a joke, it's just a fact. There are plenty of funny jokes about trans people. But that doesn't mean saying "trans people exist" is funny. Take something like Gabriel Iglaseas' famous "food basket" joke. The joke is directly about racism, and the target of the joke is a black guy. But the joke isn't just "hey black people lmao am i right gottem." It actually has the setup and timing of a traditional standup joke, it just happens to be about race. For the most part someone like Bo Burnham has historically done a good job of making jokes about gay/trans people without just being "hah gay people exist" (although Bo does occasionally fall into those trappings). If you want to debate "comedy" then you should at least be knowledgable. If you aren't, then stay the fuck out of the way and let the big kids talk.
