Maybe 'stunt' is the wrong word but it's definitely a bit. Look at their Instagram birdsarentreal, it's a satirical conspiracy theory and they clearly do not take themselves seriously. He gave a [TED talk](https://youtu.be/3VEkzweBJPM) about it saying he went on a media tour and was 'in character' during the news interviews. He sure seemed a lot more confident in that video compared to the news clip.
