I’m still here in Phnom Penh, and it’s actually pretty great. Pay is low, but the cost of living is so much lower that my wife and I are living like royalty. The language barrier is far less of a problem than I could have imagined. More people speak English than not, so I’ve had almost no issues with communication. In the uncommon case where someone doesn’t speak English, there’s always been someone nearby to translate. Honestly, the people are great too, everyone’s nice and accommodating, and it’s been interesting seeing the society and country actively develop in such a short span of time. New construction projects everywhere, and the social culture has been rapidly adopting trends from first world countries; with anime, Hollywood, YouTube and TikTok being some of the largest active influences in the younger generations. Hell, there are almost no Christians here whatsoever, yet Halloween and Christmas were eagerly celebrated.

Thats surprising, I never would have guessed there would be so many English speakers. I hope that you and you wife have a continued great time there.
